Power restriction in first 3 gears now lifted

Re: Power limitation in first 3 gears now lifted

my main gripe is actually the acceleration between 40 and 80km/h:
That is where you will be using 2nd gear in the 3000 - 55000RPM range.
In that range the power is reduced to 50HP as opposed to a possible 70HP and the torque is reduced to 75Nm as opposed to a possible 100Nm.

3rd gear between 100 and 135km/h is not too bad and the limitation is not felt that distinctly

Where did you find those numbers?

As I would like a gear indicator I was interested in the possibilty of Healtech doing a fix so I contacted them . Their reply suggests that the speedo healer removes the restriction on some bikes automatically . So has anyone fitted the speedo healer and found any difference in the bottom 3 gears. Cos that would be a cheap fix O:).

They did state that the Gipro ATRE is not made for Yamahas which is a shame.

I doubt that very much, as the healer is simply a calibration device which changes the pulses from your wheel sensor and fixes your speedo, but stuffs up your odometer by the same amount, so engine mapping is not changed

To be honest Bundu that was my opinion as well but I have been known to be wrong in the dim past so thought if the man says it then lets find out .
Hello Peter,

Thank you for your email.

There's no ATRE for Yamaha bikes.

On several Yamaha models, the SpeedoHealer removes the restriction automatically, when the speed signal is calibrated. But we don't have this information for the Tenere, even though we know many Tenere owners have installed the kit to calibrate the speedometer.

Kind Regards,

/Norbert

this is the reply I got .

Yamaha is a different beast when it comes to electronics. I have experienced this in the past with my XJR for which Dynojet could not build a powercommander either, despite the fact that I loaned my bike to them so they could research. YAmaha has it's "own way" of doing things electronically.

I can tell you all that I today got my a$$ handed to me from my best friend's 2009 GS1200! Yamaha can take their power limiting and shove it! I'm of the opinion they (Yamaha) owes all of us a fix! And Soon! If I had known they (Y) had put this info out I would have looked else where! 60hp in first in T is ridiculous! I have a TT600 with that much and it weighs around 280#, not 500! Let's all get to our dealers and email Yamaha and get going on this. It's BS plain and simple all of us if known about this should raise Hell!

There are MANY factors on the power decrease in these gears. One of them being the US emissions. With that being said there hands are tied to get the bike in the US.. It is a few bucks, but you can add a few mods to this bike and it will be 100% different than what you have out in your garage today. The exhaust system on this bike is like a big cork and needs to be off for this motor to breath...... Was the GS stock? With a few plug-N-play parts you can have the Super Tenere BEAST you want... Or at least to smoke your friend..... :D

In my view for this restriction to be done, the computer needs to know which gear the bike is in at the time. Is there no way to remove or disable the sender that tells the computer which gear it's in? Could that not also solve remove the restriction?

How about racing him in S mode with either TCS2 or traction control off (my choice for a race)?
If I were you my choice would be an V-Max, Ninja, , R1 or S1000 or even better a Turbo BUSA.

But for me I can't actually remember the last time I had a race. ::001::

I just realized that. I've been too busy exploring new places and stretching myself to boldly go where I've never been before...

The XT1200Z does not have a gear sensor.... The ECU calculates the gear it's in based on rpm's and tcs info. That is why it is not easy to fool and why companies like healtech have not yet brought out a X-TRE for it. Untill now that German dealership is the only source that has found how to lift the restriction and they did it by reprogramming (part of) the ECU. Most Yamaha's do not have an OEM gear indicator, that is because they do not use a gear sensor, Yamaha has it's own unique way of doing their electronics with many bikes, and that is what is hindering us now. But it's just a matter of time before others will crack this as more and more people around the globe are looking into this.

Hang on, and we'll be rewarded.

Re: Power limitation in first 3 gears now lifted

Actually I would like to Bitch about both modes! IMO I don't want either! Just give me what it's got! Let me be the judge! As far as the Traction control, on or off would be good I don't need 1 & 2. And as long as I'm venting make the ABS on and off also. I raced my friend in the S mode, we are even as far as skill level goes, we've been riding together since 1966, we've both had some fairly high level accomplishments. I would enjoy the S/10 a lot more with someone not trying to second guess me! Maybe I should have looked a little closer at some of the other bikes. BMW, KTM, Triumph! I have been pro Yamaha for some time worked and grew up in a Yamaha, Triumph, BSA shop. Better Luck next time! There is always going to be a better mouse trap! I was hoping this was it!

Perhaps......

You may want to simply give the bike more time, or yourself more time to learn what the bike is truly capable of.

Good luck, in any case!!!
