If this mod becomes available at much lower price I might jump on it. If I had this I would be 100% satisfied.
+1000 same here! ::008::

It would have been nice if the scaled down power was only in the "T" mode and FULL POWER in "S" mode

Hold on. That just sounds like a BMW review. Maybe that is character you are feeling?
perhaps, but not the type of character I would have preferred

sorry, misread your post... but even so, I would still like full power AND TCS as an option whilst having full power
That is what the German dealer is offering and what I try to make clear to you. Full power in all gears AND the TCS as you have it now. So TCS-1 , TCS-2 and TCS off.....

I want it and I'm gonna get it, but not at that rediculous price.

Forums in Germany and Italy already mention chiptuning allowing for 125 HP, and Yamaha is aware. So I expect that coming spring we will have 125 HP in all gears at "affordable" prices.

Re: Power limitation in first 3 gears now lifted

I never noticed less power in the first 3 gears as mentioned here. If it read it correctly, it is something that limits power below 5500 RPM in the first 3 gears? Anyway, thinking that is what I read, today I tried several times using full throttle runups in first, then second gear and I couldn't feel any difference as RPM's increased. It was spirited acceleration from the bottom to top of the revs with no discernable surge at any RPM. Am I missing something here?

Re: Power limitation in first 3 gears now lifted

Fred, if the Yamaha is like my previous Suzuki and Kawasaki's, they use a different fuel map in the lower gears or have the secondary butterflys open up higher in the RPM.s. They say its for emissions reasons and to make the bikes more user friendly and more ridable, easier to control in the lower gears without full power available.
With the Suzuki and Kaws you can get a Timing Retard Eliminator (TRE) which fools the bike in to thinking its in a higher gear which uses a fuel map that is not restricted, the difference is noticable. With my C-14 the secondary butterflys opened at 6000 RPMS now with the TRE installed they open at about 3000 RPM's.

Re: Power limitation in first 3 gears now lifted

Thanks, Bob.

Can you tell the difference in power in the 3 lower gears on your S10? I can't feel anything happening, such as a power increase or surge at any RPM, so I wonder if the USA bikes have this. It seems that our Euro friends are the only ones reporting that they have this and can feel it.

Re: Power limitation in first 3 gears now lifted

No Fred, I dont feel any lose of power in the lower gears but I suspect that we do NOT have full power.
If someone figures out how to "Unleash the beast within" and without costing an arm and a leg, I suspect that the Tenere would have more of a hooligan feel to it. That may not be a good thing for some riders but I think it would be a Hoot, especially if the "T" mode would calm the beast when desired.

Have any of the US S10's been on the dyno?
Should be easy to see if power is reduced in 2nd and 3rd...

SA, Australian and European bikes definitely have this limitation

Yes, that would be valuable information. In looking at your dyno graphs on the previous page, I can clearly see a major difference at 5500 RPM between second and third gear. Sure seems like a person should be able to feel that surge, but I sure can't and I tried several times yesterday.

Do they offer this for the ST 1200 ? Will this remove the power restrictions in 1-3 ?

I know the XTRE Spasm, but it's not (yet) available for the XT1200Z as I already indicated two pages back: http://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?topic=2224.msg37443#msg37443

Are you indicating that the guys from Healtech are working on a TRE for the XT1200Z?

Can you please let us now more than just a link to a product that is not available for the XT1200Z? ::014:: ::014:: ::014::

Re: Power limitation in first 3 gears now lifted

The German magazine Motorradnews issue 7/2010 has put the XT1200Z on the dyno for a readout in all gears and both T and S mode. The machine had 102 HP (crank) instead of the published 110 HP.

It also clearly shows the throtteling in gears 1-3 in both T and S mode. T mode is even more throttled.

Here are the results:

S-Mode
1. Gear 78 HP
2. Gear 90 HP
3. Gear 98 HP
4. Gear 101 HP
5. Gear 101 HP
6. Gear 102 HP

T-Mode
1. Gear 60 HP
2. Gear 72 HP
3. Gear 79 HP
4. Gear 83 HP
5. Gear 101 HP
6. Gear 102 HP

that power graph looks like it make for a really reaaly nice on road off road machine I wounder if we could figure out a way to turn that off
and take some of that great duel sport power curve out
::021::

Sarcasum off>

now they figure how to turn that on and off with the S and T mode I'm down with that even at a grand $$$$$$

Re: Power limitation in first 3 gears now lifted

Yes, we have seen that before, thank you very much. i should have said that I would be interested in seeing dyno graphs in all gears on a USA version, as my butt dyno cannot feel the considerable dip in the graphs posted on the previous page. It would be difficult to feel the difference if peak power were limited, as these readings show, but the graph shows quite a dip.
