I think the price is the only one time part of it. I'm sure that you can still get the Penske after the group buy is over.

Pretty much. The price, along with the special production window. Once these 2 batches of Tenere shocks are shipped, there will most likely be significantly longer lead times pushing into the fall.

"If you miss out on the group buy, there will still be Penske's for Teneres in the future. This is just the best chance to get one for this riding season at a reduced price. "

Glad to hear that. I can wait, perhaps winter will be a good time to do some more mods to the Tenere. :p

I've got a lot of miles planned for this year, spread out among the bikes, as they all serve a purpose in one way or another. If nothing else than to just make me smile when I sit back in the garage with a cold one and admire them. ;D
I used to have an old Indian with a side car, pretty weird to ride, always fun, and always a conversation piece.

If you are on the fence, get your order forms in. Just about one day left to get the order forms in and paid!

Crunch time! We are pretty close to "free shipping". If you are considering at all, get your order form in to reserve your spot.

Group buy is OVER.

Unfortunately, 42 "interested" turned into only 10 commitments.

Penske has the orders. 1st wave should be to Nick June by June 14th.

Thanks everybody!

If you are still interested in buying a Penske, contact Stoltec.

The install took me longer than I expected. I'm not great with a wrench. I put the ham in hamfisted. But it's done.
The biggest issue I had was removing enough parts to get the old shock out. I had to remove the exhaust pipe and use a crow bar to get the bolt out of the rocker. Otherwise I couldn't get the original shock out.
Using a strap to lift the rear wheel all the way up to the fender helped. I didn't think of that until later in the process. I order a fairly heavy spring for the Yukon trip. I need to reinstall all of my Touratech bits and take it out for a test ride as soon as I can manage it.
In closing, I would like to say thanks to AVC and Nick. AVC went above an beyond helping set this up and Nick took the time to discuss my changing needs, helping me get the right parts ordered then dealing with my crazy travel schedule. I've got a second lighter spring coming in the mail for when I get back and my "expected load" drops by 200 lbs. I'm due to head North in two more days. A little more pack, a tune-up afternoon ride then it's time to go.

For future reference the shock will come out the opening on the right side. No need to remove all that stuff.

Yeah, next time try this:
Put the bike on centerstand. Remove the little keeper for the brake line attached to the subframe.
Then you should be able to undo the rear linkage bolt and shock bolts. Now the shock should slink out through the subframe/frame hole.

I can do a swap in about 20 mins at this point.

How did the initial setup go? sag/damping/etc.

I just got a call from Nick. it looks like the shocks should be at Stoltec tomorrow. Nick wants to personally check each order and should be contacting each of you for shipping. Shocks should be on their way early next week!

"Looks"? Just wait until the ride impressions start piling in.

I bet a few people will be contacting Stoltec after reading.

I just got an email from Nick:

Looks like ALL shocks are at Stoltec (wave 2 is ahead of schedule!). He is sending out shipping invoices (since we didn't meet free shipping qty). Each shock is inspected, packed and ready to go once shipping is paid!

Everyone should have shocks really soon!

Thanks everyone!

Thanks for the work on putting this together, hope the install goes smooth.
The install is not terrible.

1. Put bike on centerstand.
2. Remove rear suspension linkage bolt.
3. Remove brake line guide bolt on subframe.
4. Remove lower shock bolt.
5. Remove upper shock bolt.

The stock shock will then come out through the right side of the subframe. You will have to move the rear wheel up/down a bit to get it out.

Installing the Penske is similar.

1. Lower the bottom of the Penske in through the hole on the right.
2. Wiggle the rear wheel to get the shock to "drop" lower.
3. Snake the reservoir behind the brace in the subframe above the passenger peg.
4. Raise the shock up and get it into position (you might have to wiggle the rear wheel up/down).
5. Install the upper shock bolt.
6. Install the lower shock bolt.
7. Install the rear linkage bolt.
8. Use the provided hose clamps/rubbers to mount the reservoir.

I can do this all in ~30 mins at this point.
