After discussing the prospects of setting up a Penske shock group buy, I'm pumped to say that Stoltec Moto has worked out the details with Penske and is now ready to kick this off - for for the S10.

Reference this thread:
http://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?topic=3685.0

What is eligible for the group buy

Nick admits Stoltec Moto's homepage continues to suck (as he's been so busy with his Triumph market), so the Penske lineup is not yet loaded. In the meantime, click here for details on the 8987 'Triple Clicker' and here for details on the 8983 'Double Clicker'

For those who do not wish to peruse their site, a basic non-inclusive list of what is available follows. Please note that prices listed are MSRP to give you an idea of how the pricing works out from one model to another. Stoltec Moto's prices are considerably lower!

Shocks

  • 8983 Double Adjustable (remote reservoir). Ride height adjustment, low speed compression and low speed rebound. $895 MSRP.
  • 8987 Triple Adjustable (remote reservoir). Adds high-speed compression damping. $1195 MSRP.

How the group buy will work
Prices CANNOT be posted directly in this thread or anywhere else on this forum. This is Penske policy and violation will result in the group buy being cancelled and Stoltec Moto losing dealership rights. I've known Nick a long time and would feel personally responsible if his business were jeopardized, so PLEASE don't compromise this for others. AGAIN, do not discuss pricing in this thread - All pricing is to be relayed with me via PM unless you want an angry Italian with lots of friends in NJ looking for you. ;)

Please do NOT contact Penske directly. If you have any questions/concerns, please contact Nick at Stoltec Moto.

I'll get you a form from Stoltec Moto that you need to HONESTLY fill out. Nick will then send you a PayPal invoice for you to pay.

Don't forget your www.yamahasupertenere.com user name on the form. This group buy is for forum members ONLY. If you aren't a member, this is a great reason to join!

OK, so with that disclaimer aside, here is how the group buy will work. There are no minimum buy-ins required, but there are some things worth considering if you're on the fence:

  • *IF we get 12 payments by midnight EDT on 5/20/12, Penske is anticipating a delivery date to Stoltec Moto on/around 6/14/12. If 12-24 orders are received, add a week to the ETA. If 24-30, add two weeks. Penske is a small company, so bulk orders like this require special attention. Furthermore, Nick has offered that 12 orders received will qualify the group for free shipping.
  • *Understanding that funds can be tricky to come by, the group buy will run through midnight EDT 5/31/12. The 12+ order free shipping policy applies, but keep in mind your delivery date will move to the right by the same schedule laid out above. For now, the current projection is approximately four weeks, plus the same additional shifts based on volume.
  • *If you want to reserve your spot, payment is required. If for some unforeseen circumstances you need to cancel, your payment will be refunded less 25% for restocking.

Also, keep in mind that Nick is working on developing a nicer mounting solution that will be available separately/exclusively through Stoltec Moto. Nick is pushing to get this done, but it is very likely the shocks will beat his kits. Have some patience, as Nick is a lunatic and has been obsessing over a tidier solution. Your patience will be rewarded...

I'll add to the 'paid parties' list (post below) and will let everyone know when we reach our minimum buy requirement.

To join this group buy, follow the link below, fill out the form, save it, email it to the address at the bottom. You will be invoiced via Paypal directly through Stoltec Moto, LLC. Once paid, you are IN!

Since we all know ::006::

Shock Pics!
Note: 8987 shown. 8983 will look essentially identical, just slight visual difference with the compression adjustment.

Installed:

Note: the reservoir slips through without having to take anything apart. This really tidied up the hose routing! You can also see the compression adjustment on the reservoir, very easy to get to.

Top:

Note: This view shows the preload collar. Operation is super easy. Penske provides a tool that inserts into the holes and you turn. It is very easy on the centerstand. The range of motion is ~4-5 holes before re-positioning the tool. Very easy. Fail-proof and lightweight.

Bottom:

Note: This view shows the rebound adjustment. Just like stock it is easily accessible with the bike on the sidestand from the right side. Just move the centerstand down a tad and access is easy. You can also see the ride height adjustment. With the shock off you extend/shorten the clevis extension and lock down with the nut. The shock will come pre-set to stock length.

Rider Clearance:

Note: Excuse my hairy legs.

Passenger Clearance:

Note: Probably should have gotten the wife's leg for this, but I didn't. So excuse my hairy leg again.

Shock Dyno Chart:

Note: For you tech junkies like me :).

Ok. a little help, please. I previously got on the "interested" list. Now I think I will continue with this process, but have a few questions.

First, the two links for details on the shocks do not work.

Second, you say you will send a form to fill out and send in. How does one request that form so that they can fill it out, send it in and get an invoice?

Thanks,

Fred Z.

Fred Z.,

Sorry about that. I cleaned up the links. The "code" is new to me and I had a few errors trying to make the hyperlink. They should work now.

If you are ready to order, PM me with your email address. I will get the form over to you and forward your info to Stoltec. They will then invoice you and you will be on the "paid" list once you pay.

I like this setup as it lets me do the legwork so we all get a discount, but it keeps the "business" between the buyer and a reputable company. I couldn't imagine trying to do a group buy asking you guys to send some "random" on a forum so much cash.

If we paid, say Monday, when would we receive the shock? I ask because some of us are leaving on a trip soon. Thanks. Gotta be a PITA having to answer these questions.

So the Penske shock will take cre of the back of the bike.
What bout the front?
Any recommendations for fork changes / mods to improve the front end?

Springs, oil, valves, etc.?

If payments are in for MONDAY, the order will be placed and shocks are PROJECTED to be at Stoltec for 6/14. Nick said he likes to personally inspect each shock to make sure everything is in order. The shocks would then ship from Bangor, PA on 6/15. Delivery time from there is up to UPS/FEDEX.

I have been working with Stoltec on a fork solution. Follow this thread: http://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?topic=4435.0
Let's try to keep it separate fom this to not cloud this thread.

I'm really excited about putting this new shock on my bike. The bike already handles well stock, so I can't wait to unleash it's full handling potential with this upgrade! ::26:: Now I just need to figure out what springs/valves I'm going to install up front.

Thanks for setting up this group buy! ::008::

Patience with the front. Mine are close. I am just being a picky SOB. Nick could probably put these in your forks and you be totally satisfied. Keep track of the fork kit thread.

I'm off for a jaunt through the Adirondacks. I have my smart phone so I will keep the lists updated.

Come on guys! We had ~40 interested. Hitting this 12 mark should be a joke!

Remember: If you are PAID by Sunday you will be in the "priority" group and should have your shock ~3rd week of June. ::015::

If you are PAID by 5/31, July. ::013::

If you MISS, you will simply pay more ::010::

Due to severe Farkle Funds delpetion (thanks Jaxon) and prepping the WR250R for an upcoming September 2 week trip I gotta pass on the Penske at this time.

Will come back to it once the funds are available. Will do the forks too.

Thanks for putting this together and Nick for the hard work.
