You must have a LOT smaller hands and/or longer fingers than I to be able to access the connections with the "tank in place"!!!! Even with the front and rear hardware removed, I can only raise the tank about 1 1/2 to 2" and still have a hard time reaching the fittings.

That said, I'm about to the point where I think I will remove my pigtails. Too many horror stories popping up here about problems (including mine)!

There are two vent lines going to the front left of your engine. They are tucked in a -C- shaped holder. Pull them out of the -C- shaped holder and push both up toward the bottom of the tank a little... With this being done you should be able to lift the tank almost vertical 10"+... With the tank almost straight up you can work on this stuff easy...... Just loosen the rear bolt a little so it doesn't bind on the rubber grommet.. No need to take out.. Take off all those hoses and such. Do your adjustments, sync it, and then put back on the left stock hose and the right nipple.... done..... ::008::

When I open it up again next week to remove the hoses, I'll try your suggestion. Thanks!

(still wonder how some can get in to do all this without raising the tank)

That's what I used. If you don't have long fingers, use a long thin shanked screw driver.

I have been reading this thread with interest.
As I posted in my introduction I bought a demo with 2000 miles on it a week ago. Well I get an E-Mail from the owner of the dealership asking me to bring in the bike for "adjustments". I'm thinking "what the" ? Anyway , so I take it in yesterday and he orders this adjustment and TBS right away while I chat with the owner in his office. Tech is done in short order and there was no charge. He told the tech to write it up as owner complaint of stumble off idle . I don't know if there is a tech bulliton on this but the way I got it mother Yamaha will pick up the tab on this. I do know it cost me nothing as it should not with the bike new and all.
My point is if you don't like to mess with your own bike and have a reliable dealer they should take of this for you free of charge.
Hope this helps
Scooper
Scooper got his done with out lifting a finger! Smart man!!!!

Serious: For sure, not sure if its only on a 'few' bikes... For people with a new bike that dont feel comfortable messing with there new bike this is a good thing, and the right thing for Yamaha to do...... ::008::

Joking:.. Hope it wasn't a kid that didnt know much about the new bike that just kinda BS'ed the job so he could go text his GF while out smoking... Hope it was done with precision ! Ive seen this type of thing WAY too many times in so many business's.... makes me sick.... no pride.. ::007::

Hello ,I am writing from Italy and I apologize for my english.I would like to ask you ,when you have syncronized the trottle body, have you cheked the levels of depression with a good instrument?Because the service manual says that the levels could be between 26,5 and 29,5 cm hg and after having unscrewed of 270° what are the values? Then I inform you that when the bike have runned for 20000 km you need to clean the throttle body before make alignment . Regards from Italy

The air screw adjustment is the single best thing you could do to this bike. Took about an hour. I did run into a vacuum leak using the stated hose size for the pigtails and the marginal spring clamps from the local auto parts store. The baro wouldn't seal. I ended up using the factory hose to connect to the vacuum t on the left side.

If you are using alt rider crash bars the left radiator cover will take a little finess to slide out. Also be careful with the lower bolt on the left side cover that goes into the lower section of the radiator. It will want to cross thread if care is not taken.

I finally found some time this afternoon to sync the throttle bodies using the Harmonizer.

The factory setting was not far off, +3 to +5. I was able to trim it back to 0. All was done within 10 minutes, taking the side covers off takes 9 minutes.

Drove the bike after that but did not notice any difference. Guess the bike was already close to spot on.

I am a happy camper anyway. ::003::

I turned out the air screws last night. The low end stumble is gone. Thanks for the info.

You really don't need to remove the left side cover. Just move it forward enough to remove the left side gas tank bolt.
Also only remove the screws in the blue section and two push pins. Also you don't need to take the black cover apart. Just 4 screws. Hope that all made sense..

Yep, I have the Altrider crash bars and removing the cover is a hassle. After looking at it
moving it forward enough to get to the tank allen head mounting bolt was all that was needed.

I did the idle air screw adjustment today. It really helped to get rid of the off idle stumble. On the test ride afterwards, I was able to creep along with no throttle input even uphill.

The best way to get this done is to take it to your dealer and let them know it stumbles off idle and it will be a warranty paid service.

That would be nice, but doesn't always happen like that. It usually happens like this: Ok sir, I took your bike for a ride and could not duplicate the problem, if it shows up again, bring it back.
Now I've wasted my time when I could have just done it myself, and learned something along the way. jmho

Find a Pro Yamaha dealer with a Gold Certified tech and they will typically know what to do....;)

My dealer will do it.

Its not that they dont know what to do.. its that changing the air screw and CO dont coincide with the US emissions regulations and Yamaha doesn't want to touch anything to do with that... "probably wont touch it".. for that reason... :)
