Got my Scouts through Motorcycle Super Store on line. $250.00 no tax or shipping charges. Just spent the day in them on my WR250R running thrue mud with a couple river crossings. Feet dry and cozy. :)

I have a pair of Gaerne G-Adventure boots... For on the bike or walking around they've been great..
I have some too. I think they are just marginal. Very comfortable for multiple day wear, easy to live in, waterproof, but severely lacking in support and safety.

My other boots are sg10's so it's sort if two extremes.

Every time I spend more than a few miles offroad with the adventure boots, I curse them.

Would I want to live in sg10,s? No.

Heading out to ride like an idiot, sg10s.

Heading out on a multi day trip with the wife, adventures.

That said, I've wished I had my sg10s on a few times. Can't say I ever wished I had the other boots. Hmmm.

Gaerne Oiled Balance - Re: ADV BOOTS, what ya got, what ya like ?

~

Gaerne Oiled Balance boots for me... 100% waterproof, plenty wide for my W-I-D-E foot, wonderful fit and finish, and believe it or not - comfortable to walk in, even all day if need be. Work with my big calves, too, and they will go under jeans. Best streetable, walkable off-road boots I've ever owned.

Easy to take care of, too... Just a little bit of mink oil from time to time and they look brand new. Had 'em a year now and I'd immediately buy another pair if somehow I lost these.

The Sidi are perfect for winter, they are quite hot.
They are between a cross/enduro boot and the trail/street boots: more comfortable than the cross ones but safer than the others. I'm using them in my long rides.
Y have also some Fox Instinct. This are enduro boots, safer, stronger but incredible comfortable for this kind of boots. And surprisingly waterproof. Cooler than the Sidi.

::026:: I have had my Gaerne Balanced oiled boots since mid 2009, and absolutely love them. Still on the original sole after 150K + miles. Totally comfortable straight out of the box, though the gore tex liner started springing leaks a while ago. I got a fresh pair for Christmas but haven't had the heart to retire the originals just yet.

If these boots are gore tex they should be guaranteed for life not to leak.

I bought a pair of Alpinestar Tech 7's today. They seem pretty beefy but I broke my foot really bad in motor school about a year ago (four broken bones, one crushed) and really want to protect my feet and ankles.

The kid at Cycle Gear told me to stand in warm water up to the ankle while wearing the boots to break them in. He said to rock back and forth while standing in the warm watter. Since this is similar to how many soccer players break in their leather cleats I thought it seemed reasonable.

Before I take the plunge, literally, anyone else have any suggestions?

I spray alcohol on the inside and wear them at home for a day. Friend of mine wears them to bed. How long do you stand in the water?

I let them soak in hot water for about an hour. Then I put them on and wear them for a few hours. Good-to-go !!!!!

Similar to how some have mentioned...

*Back in day* (as in the 1970's & '80's), when we all wore heavy, stiff leather MX boots, the accepted method for breaking in something like a pair of Hi-Points (these days known as Alpine Star), Full Bore (these days known as Sidi), etc. was to get them thoroughly soaked with warm water... often by buckling them up and then literally *filling* them with water. It ran out but it got the inside soaked through. Or you could just submerge them for a few minutes in a bath tub filled with hot water.

Anyway, then the trick was to put 'em on and wear until they were dry. Often this was done on a practice day at the MX track. Walking around in 'em, loading the bikes up, driving to the track, unloading, riding a few laps, more walking, more riding, repeat, then loading up and driving home. Usually took about 5 to 8 hours of straight wearing for them to be completely dry, but once they were they were well and truly broke in, and fit like a second skin. Once they were dry a nice coating of mink oil was my preference. Some people used saddle soap, other leather treatments, neatsfoot oil, etc. Whatever it was you prefer. I liked mink oil because it gave some semblance of being waterproof. Water could still get past the seams, etc., but at least it couldn't soak through the leather with a proper mink oil treatment.

It's a long process, but it works.

Only problem was it was pretty easy to get blisters during the wearing process if you weren't careful.

BTW, it works for leather gloves that don't fit, too. ;)

Hope this helps!
