I`ve done the mod and it`s great, didn`t bother with rubber under the tang, when I sit on the seat it tilts back, when I get off the seat sits snug against the tank ::012::
That wouldn't work for me as I'm on the pegs too much of the time. At least 10% on pavement and 30-40% of the time off road I am standing up and don't want the seat bouncing up and down with every bump.

So 60-70% of time off road you wouldn't notice because you're seated?

No 60-70% of the time the seat would not be bouncing up and down because my weight would be pressing it down.

I was just wondering. I was thinking of doing no bumpers at all because of how comfortable this mod is. I tried it once with no bumpers but worried if that would cause the framing of the seat to fatigue over time. 99% pavement.

The seat is supported by the bumpers and cast-in raised points which the bumpers mount to. If the seat rocks then you are stressing the seat pan at the pivot point and reliability probably depends on you. If you don't weigh much it's probably no big deal. If you like to eat and drink substantial amounts daily - ahem - maybe you want to consider spreading the load better.

So the bumpers are a must for me then. LoL. Time to order those and see if that helps the forward momentum I've been experiencing even at slow speeds.

I did this today then put on a quick 100 miles. My rear definitely feels more comfortable with the mod! I'm hoping I can keep it, because I have a problem with my left leg- sciatica I think- a pain running down the back of my left thigh. It really bothered me the last few long rides on my ST1300 with a Russell seat. I have to have a compromise between a seat that doesn't lean forward, yet doesn't put pressure on my thigh. So far it seems like this mod will work. I'll know after the 2500+ miles I put on next weekend.

I have this same problem. A set of highway pegs helped.

They will be ordered soon. I wish I could put them on before going to NC next weekend. I'll just have to put up with it. I did 500 miles today and no problem. We'll see how a 1200 and a 1000 mile day in the same weekend works out with the stock seat.

I ended up having my stock seat rebuilt by Bill Mayer Seats. At first I was not happy with the build and had an adjustment made. Better but still not totally pleased. Added lower and more forward foot pegs and the seat felt better and my knees liked the adjustment. Is it perfect, no... but it is good enough to ride 12 1/2 hours and 800ish miles in a day. The seat fits flat and I don't slide forward or back and my arse finally adjusted to the seat.

Please post more info on the foot pegs. I did this on my Vstrom and it made a huge difference.

Just ordered, how long did it take for receipt from the boat place? They are wondering why everyone is needing seat bumpers.

I couldn't figure out the seat mod then realized it was based on a stock seat. My custom Corbin solved all the pressure point issues but the sliding was so problematic the seat was starting to wrinkle after a 2400 mile ride to cabo. The way they built the seat I could not see a way to modify it using only bumpers.

Took a ride to Corbin and they honored their 1 free adjustment warranty (within a year of purchase), fitted the seat to me and addressed the sliding issue (also had a front heater installed) and basically rebuilt it while I waited.

Ironically, 3 other Yamaha's rode in for new seats also. They are best known in the cruiser world though make seats for everything, to get 4 Yamaha's in the sport tour class on the same day was a fluke.. we all slide forward. :)

Here is a photo of the seat.

I just ordered 5 from Boat. How long did it take to receive yours. I'm assuming you've already gotten them.

I ordered on Tuesday and had them by Friday. I live in Indiana so your mileage may vary.
Loving the fix BTW.

Cool, sounds encouraging. Love the bike and the seat really is not bad. Quite good actually. It just needs a little more adjustment. I'm glad there are tinkerers that figure these things out for us! ::018::

Looked at the first couple of pages on this thread... and ordered 3 of the lower bungs.... they arrived yesterday... then I read I actually need 5 O:)

Anyway.... ordered another batch ( of 2) but meanwhile I have replaced the two rear bungs with the lower ones, and used the third to pad out the securing arm as suggested.... then removed the middle two oem bungs, and the seat seams to sit nicely as it is.... 8)
