That sucks that one was was stolen. Good that you have another and Yamaha is looking after both of them. ;D

Did my harness replacement yesterday. Very easy (especially if you use the string). Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay easier than going thru a dealer, especially if they are 80 miles away. Kept the old for proof to future owners, if there are any.

Last night I called Grand Prix Motorcycle in Santa Clara. The moment I mentioned my name to Dave in Service, he actually remembered what bike I had, and then guessed why I was calling!

They already had the recall kits in stock and did it this morning while I waited, in less than an hour. This is truly a class operation, so I'd highly recommend any S10 owner in the Silicon Valley area to head on over and get 'er done.

Ohhh boy. I sure hope whoever stole your previous S10 gets word of the recall. Would hate for that person to loose their lights, in a curve, at night, near a steep drop off, with gravel shoulders, and no guard rail......

I Live in San Antonio, Tx. I called my dealer--Alamo Cycleplex--and they give me this line about how Yamaha requires them to hold my bike while the part is on order. They claim that this is due to the safety issues involved with the faulty harness. I asked the guy who gave me this line if this came directly from Yamaha, and he said that that came from the manager at the dealer. Anyway, I told him that this was the only dealer in NA requiring this. He said he would double check and get back to me.

This dealer is very short on customer service. Owning my S10 for the last 3 months and roughly 4,500 miles has been a great experience. Unfortunately this dealer is not one that gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling. They require for one to drop off the bike with an appointment for a two day turn around on a freaking oil change!! And appointments are usually 2 weeks out. I'm thinking about writing Yamaha about this dealer and the poor representation of their brand.

On my initial survey when I bought the bike, I noted that the dealer wanted $278 in labor for the initial 600 mile inspection--plus parts! Anyway, I ended up buying the tech manual and doing it myself. I also decided to do my own periodic maintenance and keeping really good records.

Anyway, sorry about the rant, just wanted to get it out there and maybe et some feedback on how some of you would handle this.

Very bogus of the dealer to require the bike to be in their possession while parts are ordered. I think this is a misinterpretation on their part to Yamaha telling them they can't sell a new 12-13 without the recall being accomplished. Holding the bike certainly wasn't required when I had the service done and I doubt very many dealers practice this. I suppose they could require the owner to bring the bike in to verify VIN and recall-applicability before ordering parts, but to require possession of the bike while the parts are in transit is ridiculous. And while Yamaha's lawyers have written the recall notice to say "don't ride the bike anymore", it is not the dealer's responsibility to enforce this by impounding the bike.

I certainly think you're justified in calling Yamaha corporate about this. But it will probably piss off the dealer.

Got my recall done while I waited last Thursday. Took 2 hours, so I made good use of the time and demo'd a brand new GSXR60O, (the 750 wasn't prepped). Good clean fun.

Sounds like a great situation. Since it is warranty work over 24 hours, I'd assume they have to give you a bike that is "safe" to ride while they hold yours in quarantine...

Got the same B.S. from the dealer in Cody who is also "very short on customer service". Matter of fact, he's a dickhead! I suggested that he didn't need my ride just to order parts. He's had my paper work for almost 2 weeks now and I haven't heard back. Figure I'll wait another week then call. Too damn cold to ride anyhow - 29 degrees and 15 mph wind.
If the Cody dealer falls on his face - which I'm assuming he'll do - I'll take the motorsickle to Billings and ask them to do it.
I'll seriously consider a note to Yamaha also complaining about this dealer. I did him the courtesy of asking for a price when I bought the thing - he wanted full retail plus dealer prep plus documentation fee plus whatever he could add. I've bought snow mobiles (3) and a Grizzly ATV from him over the years, but he'll NEVER get another penny of mine - including oil! Ended up getting the ST in Lakewood, CO at a very reasonable "out the door" price from some very friendly folk at G-Force Powersports.

Got my bike back after leaving it overnight. Apparently the harness was back ordered but once it they got it, I scheduled the work and it was done. Problem is I have been eyeing a new pressure washer, so the recall actually cost me 800.00 bones. Sheesh. ???

Interesting. I guess that 'splains why my PDP Tenere hasn't had any problems with the headlight harness. Manufactured before 10/2011.

And here all the time, I thought it was operator and I was one of the few doing it right. ;D
Well that's prolly because you let the engine warm up fully before shutting it down and avoid cycling the fuel pump as well as other such shenanigans. O:)

I'm having the same run-around with the dealer in Amarillo. I called Yamaha Customer Service on March 3, who told me that all Super Ten's were under the recall, then forwarded me to Parts Procurement regarding how I should go about getting the part (go to my dealer, give him my VIN and he will order the part). As of yesterday, a call to the dealer still results in 'Yamaha hasn't sent me anything', which leads me to wonder if they ever ordered the part? They have never had a Super Ten on the showroom floor, so they wouldn't know one if it fell in their lap.
I'm not able to do anything this week, but if next Monday doesn't get a different response, I'll call one of the two dealers in Lubbock and give them a shot.

Congrats, I surely hope the dealer put you at the head of the line for the recall.
