I just wanted to say how interesting it is to hear from fellow ten owners how hard it is to find a reputable dealer to do the work. I have heard great things about Westfield Yamaha in Westfield, In if you're in the area. I hope to be heading up there soon to get this recall completed.

There seems to be some stepping, fetching, and worrying in this thread about exactly what is being replaced, etc. There really isn't anything to worry about as long as your bike has been marked as having the recall.

Here's the box the dealer gets with your recall parts in it, which are a *COMPLETE* headlamp sub-harness and a little clip. The clip is in there just so it can be replaced if the one on the bike is somehow damaged during the recall harness installation...

They're not my best photographic work, but I did them "quick and dirty" with my small camera. Afraid I don't have time for much else today.

But the real point is I don't think anyone needs to worry. If the dealer did the recall this harness above is what you get in the kit.

And while we're on the subject... Anyone else notice how much less the MSRP of the recall kit is compared to if you were to go out and buy a brand new headlamp sub-harness? ;)

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the clarification. I figured that they mid-stated what exactly was replaced.

I picked mine up from having it done and both lights are on all the time. The hi/low beam switch does nothing to the stock headlights. Anyone else had this trouble?

I just ordered a harness and I'll put it on myself. I would rather spend the $30 and not have to fool around with setting up an appointment and getting it to the dealer.

Funny, but along with the harness, I ordered the clip, just in case I broke it. The old clip didn't break, so I didn't need to replace it. Good thing, because the new clip disappeared somewhere in its journey to my door. (Cheap Cycle Parts sent the harness and clip separately). It's been weeks now, and I often wonder what happened to my little black clip. :D
I think your clip fell into the same black hole that is connected to clothes dryers everywhere. It has joined a legion of single socks in some other dimension. ::013::

First, lets start out by explaining that there are only two bulb filiments. The Hi/Low is a solenoid moving the bulb in/out, (or a shutter). So yes, both bulbs are always on, that's normal.

What's not happening is the trigger signal for the solenoid. Double check that you have all the plugs attached and that there are no loose wires/pins in plugs. Default is low beam position. IIRC, applying 12v to the signal line puts you in High beam position. Most likely, your signal wire is not connected, either due to a loose pin/wire at the main plug, or something downstream in the sub harness.

You say you noticed both lights are on, which is normal, as pointed out above. But are you switching back and forth between high and low bean, expecting one light to be going on and off, or is the solenoid truely not switching? Face a wall with the bike and verify you are not getting a difference in the light beam as it's reflecting against the wall while you're actuating the switch.

Thanks guys, I'll check that tomorrow. I swear it wasn't doing anything but I was expecting one to go out. The touratech aux lights acted like they did before so I know the switch is still operating them.

You should actually hear it click, if the engine is not running at the time. Fire the bike up, let it warm up fully so you don't get the dreaded hard start issue, then shut it down, but leave the key on and try the lights and see what you hear/see. (If it's not become obvious that the high beams are working ok).

I should have done the same. A week and no lights a week with no bike with fantastic weather? my wife was about to kill me last weekend now I was told I will need to keep the bike at the shop for another week!!
NFW  I am picking it up tomorrow and bringing it back next Saturday and wait for the hour for them to install the damn things..

Ramsey, you really need to find another dealer. It only takes 30 minutes to do the install of the harness. Made an appointment with my dealer, rode in, sat down and had a cup of coffee, the next thing I knew the mechanic came out and handed my the key. Said the bike is ready to go. ::012::

I was going to let this sit a while on my original PDP bike, but decided I will go ahead and do it. Told Romney I'm bringing it in next Saturday. The told me it should be done in about 45 minutes. I'm sure my timing has nothing to do with the Klim gear that will be in for me to pick up that day...nothing at all.

Seriously, I've never had a problem with it, but I've also never checked. I'd hate to be out a few states from home, look in the rear view mirror and see my wife back there and in the dark. Just going to get it done and not worry about it.

Unfortunately it's the only game in town, besides Bobby J's Yamaha in Albacracky 54 miles away..
My local dealer does not even have tools to check the throttle bodies, I don't think they know how to work on bikes at all and they are a multibike dealer.

Called dealer a couple of weeks ago. The called me about two week ago, said parts were in. I could drop off the bike and they would 'work it in' or I could set an appointment about a week out and wait for it. I went the appointment route.

Pulled my touratech bracket, windshield, right side covers, headed to dealer. 45 minutes later, ride away. Put it all back together.

Typed up invoice and sent to Yamaha so I can get reimbursed for the time I spent pulling my stuff. ::012::

Earlier in this thread I was commenting that this recall wasn't rocket science and would be pretty difficult to screw up. Well, I was just washing my bike and I noticed at least one minor screw up.... while replacing the windscreen, they installed one of the two small plastic fairings (that the windscreen screws go through) upside-down. And it's not a completely cosmetic screw-up..... there are two index pins on the fairing that go into matching holes in the windscreen that don't line up if you have it upside down - the "mechanic" just screwed it down regardless, bowing it badly in the middle. Very sloppy work.

Finally checked it this evening, got cold here again dang it, and they seem to be working fine. I appreciate the info and I'll keep an eye on them because I swear they weren't doing anything but I was outside and it is pretty subtle. Good thing that touratech monster will light up the night if needed. Thanks again!

Happy to hear everything is working as it should. ::008:: Understandable to get a little worked up when you thought something was not working like it should.
