Anyhow all of these things are fixable. But a couple hundred dollars should get me something that is at least finished properly and at least was looked at before it got shipped to me.
IOW I shouldn't have to fix it. And shame on ADVMottorad for either not looking at this stuff or seeing it and still selling it to me.
Right now the bars are sitting in my shop. Not sure if I want to fix them or cut them into semi-usable scrap for other projects.
I believe that you are mistaken in a couple of aspects and would suggest pulling your posts here and wherever else you have. (Note that this will be your choice and I could have deleted your posts here as a mod.) You've said that a reseller should have done something which resellers don't do, did not first give the guy to make your problem right, and blind-side slammed his business by going straight to the internet.
ADV Motorrad is/was a 1-person business and has been here since Jason started. He has done some really well-priced special pricing for forum members and I know he has done both exchanges and warranties. The ONLY problem I'm aware of IS similar to something which you mentioned in passing, because I was a person it happened to. The company he uses to process sales will occasionally not register a discount and when I brought it to his attention in an email, he personally called me on the phone to apologize and immediately refunded the difference. You didn't write that you brought it up with him, so I doubt he was even aware till you brought it up in public.
Jason has always made it clear that he does not manufacture his own products and few resellers do. Unless a reseller were to do a complete dimensional inspection, the fit issues which you wrote of would be transparent. Just like any store, Jason puts his own money down to buy from his sources and resells with a mark-up. A colleague who reviews business contracts for a day-job also started a home business reselling stuff. The colleague is a business major who has ZERO mechanical aptitude and I wouldn't expect him to know a flaw if it bit him. Heck, Yamaha doesn't inspect individual products and has supplier defects get through. Like my contracts colleague, most resellers never lay eyes on the products and leave them in the packaging from the source.
You and Jason agreed that he told you pre-sale there was a cosmetic issue, meaning that he did extra in looking at the parts and didn't try to hide anything from you.
What bothers me is that when you realized the bars didn't fit (which I agree absolutely would have been a huge disappointment), the post you made appears like you didn't just pick up the phone or write an email to explain it and ask for a refund. Instead, it appears that you came straight to the public forums, finishing with how you might destroy the product. That just makes no sense, is damaging to Jason's business, and to your credibility.
I don't think that you would have gotten a different reselling experience with Revzilla, Motorcycle Superstore, or even a local dealer. We all occasionally buy something that we find was not made right, so give the guy the chance to make this right before you slam him for something he was not even aware of, and please consider pulling your posts. I'll be happy to pull this one.
