Hey guys - happy 2014! ::012:: Thanks for making 2013 a great year for us at ADV Motorrad...we're looking forward to getting you fully outfitted for more adventures in the new year.

We got a sneak peek at some new upper crashbars that are being developed by DS Bike Protection. These will bolt to (and require the use of) the OEM Yamaha crashbar/engine guard, but will do a really nice job for protecting the radiator, plastics, and other parts you'd rather not replace if your bike takes a nap. The bars mount to the frame at the rear and use a heavy duty clamp system at the front to mount to the Yamaha lower crashbars.

To set expectations, these are just the prototypes to gauge fitment and adjust as necessary; the finished pieces will be fully mitered and finish welded, and powdercoated versus the quickie spraybomb black. I expect these will come available in the next 4-6 weeks and will add a product page to our site when they are in final production and we're ready for pre-orders. I'd appreciate your feedback and will be happy to share it with DS Bike.

Any questions in the meantime, please let me know.

Thanks!

Can you remove both side body panels w/o removing the add on bars?

Any idea on pricing yet?

Hi guys - thanks for the interest! I'm pretty sure they are currently able to remove both side panels without removing the prototype bars, but will wait for the final production version to confirm. I don't have a good estimate yet on pricing, but hopefully should get some news soon as they lock in the design and fabrication requirements. My S.W.A.G. is somewhere around the $200 mark, plus or minus.

Thanks!

Nice looking bars. How tall is the guy on that bike? Looks like his knees are very close to touching them.

Can we get more details on what they attach to at the rear? It doesn't look like the same spot Touratech went to.

Great question - it may just be the angle of the photo, but I'll ask for the height of the rider and make sure they are considering clearance for taller riders.

Thanks!

Hi AC - I've got a request in for more detailed photos and mounting details and will post up here as soon as I have 'em. It looks like there is a hole in the diagonal frame gusset that is being used, but will get more clarity.

TNWalker/Boulder, I'll definitely keep you posted!

Thanks...

Hi guys - got some updates from DS Bike.

* Both side panels are removable with the upper crashbars installed.

* The picture showing the rider leg clearance is a bit misleading, as he was sitting farther forward on the seat than usual. The rider is 5' 9" and has great leg clearance with the bars installed, but I've asked DSBP to find someone over 6' to hop on and confirm.

* A better picture of the rear mounting point is shown below.

Any other questions, please let me know!

Thanks...

Being in the UK I have just ordered a set from DS BIKE PROTECTION for e119 + e20 p&p. I'm 6'1" so I will let you know if they get in the way of my knees.

Hi carrot - getting closer! Your timing is spot on, too - we just received some additional pictures of the bars from final testing (raw steel and not powdercoated). Once I get confirmation that fabrication and powdercoating of the first production run is complete, it should only be a couple of weeks to get parts in stock in New York. I've also asked for an install video, as well as some pictures or video of removing the side panels. I agree it looks like it will be a tight fit (if it can be done at all), but the bars don't look too bad to remove if side panel access is restricted.

DS Bike has a few more parts in store for the S10 and I'll be posting those up shortly....any other questions in the meantime, please let me know.

Thanks!

thanks for the update was thinking maybe also you could mention to them about a new rear bracket for the yamaha aluminum skid plat that bolts to the frame instead of the oil pan ::021::

Well, after paying for the bars (as the website said they where in stock) and then waiting some time, I contacting DS BIKE PROTECTION by email asking when my bars would be sent, they replied saying they did not have any. Not good business practice.

Hi Grumpy - I'll talk to DS Bike tomorrow and pass along your feedback, as well as make sure they have the right status set on the product page. The good news is that I'm expecting the first production run of crashbars will be completed shortly, and odds are good you'll get them faster shipping within EU versus export.
