According to my dealer, no. The word is that the warranty will be in the name of the person who reserved a PDP order. The warranty will be transferred to my name after a certain amount of time.
I think your dealer is blowin smoke. Ask him how much time for the warranty transfer

HOLD THE PRESSES!!

(or whatever it is that you say in the cyber age when someone has written something they shouldn't have).

I've been doing some checking, and it seems there were limited numbers of these handed out at demo events - so you're not going to be able to get one from your dealer and if you have one now you're one of the lucky ones. Also... there seems to be some doubt over whether the PDP bikes are covered (but I can't see how they are not, after reading all the fine print).

I'll update you as soon as I hear anything else.

Sorry - you can go back to your beer now, maybe drown your sorrows...

I'd be talking with the General Manager of your dealership and then making a prompt phone call to corporate to get to the bottom of this one.

They don't allow transfer of PDP. That's how they control the no dealer model policy. Some dealers have bikes (PDP) in their own names, they are fudging a little. So if you complain you can give up the PDP/Bike you bought, it gets cancelled.

I bought a dealer PDP, after six months we transfer the warranty and all is well, it's the price you pay for being late to the game.

I was told the amount could be applied to either the purchase of the PDP machine at the time of sale or to purchase accessories at the discretion of the purchaser.

Are you sure you'll be buying a "new" bike, or is the dealer buying and titling it in his(or son's/whoever's) name and then reselling it to you with a subsequent transfer of title and warranty six months (DMV time lag) later? Not that it would make a lot of difference, but it sounds a little shaky. Might want to get that clarified. Keep your head up, and Good Luck! I think any grief will be worth it on your first ride.

Have you actually read the terms of a Yamaha Motorcycle warranty? If not I suggest you do so.

Not an issue, Yamaha will fix it under any name.

First of all, the coupons were handed out by corporate employees at random events. The dealers were not given any of the coupons and were only given away at certain events of their choosing. Sorry, but most dealers will have no idea about this and there none available for the dealer to acquire for you......

Now for the PDP issue....

The PDP is tied to the original purchaser. If that customer cancelled and requested a refund from Yamaha then the bike is no longer available to the dealer. If the dealer refunds the money to the original customer, then the bike is still available to the dealer and he can then take a deposit from someone that missed the program. In order for the dealer to be refunded the original deposit that he refunded, instead of allowing Yamaha to refund and cancel, the bike must be warranty registered in the original customers name and then after about 30 days transfer the warranty to the actual purchaser. The warranty is valid regardless so it's not an issue.

The bike will be registered to the actual purchaser with the state and not the person who originally started the PDP and the bike will have whatever miles are showing on the odometer when it comes out of the crate!

I am the dealer selling this particular bike and I can assure you sir we are not blowin smoke!

I am familiar with your dealership and reputation. Thank you for the clarification. Many dealers however, do spin tales and some customers have a way of not getting the facts straight.

Not a problem. This has been an on-going issue since the FJR was made available on this program and there always seems to be a lot of confusion on how it works. The only time the warranty becomes an issue is if the dealer orders a bunch of them in employee, neighbor or pets names and they warranty register those in order to get their deposit back and the warranty clock begins at that time. As long as all of the units are actually sold, whether to the original PDP purchaser or someone that has stepped into their place, the warranty won't be a problem as the purchaser is the one actually taking delivery. It just will take a little time for the actual purchaser to be registered as the owner, but that is generally a very short time.

As for the ones registered in one of the dealers pet's name, the warranty has begun and if he has the respective unit in inventory for a few months, then the warranty becomes an issue as to how long it is actually for. If we sold a vehicle such as that we would give a 12 month Y.E.S. warranty in addition to go with the vehicle to insure there was at least 12 months coverage.

I hope this clears up a lot of the confusion.

Thanks for the great information, Tony.

How do the above scenarios apply to the $200 cash back from Yamaha? I belive the coupon posted says, "Factory Direct Cash may only be claimed by the warranty registered buyer". Does someone who takes over a PDP lose that opportunity because his name is not originally on the warranty?

It would only be available to the original purchaser. So if someone stepped in and got someone elses spot in line they would not be eligible for the cash voucher.

You also have to look at it this way, if you bought your spot in line after the program ended your lucky to be getting a bike this go around anyway.
