I recently went to a demo and got a coupon from a district sales manager (I think that's what he said he is). He had a few more coupons with him, and while we talked I saw a different serial number than mine on another coupon. I told him my situation (did not order a bike in the PDP but planned to take over an abandoned PDP order if I could find one) and he told me it would be fine as long as I bought a new Yamaha before 12/31/11. Why would he give me a coupon if he knew it would go to waste? Then again, he's a sales guy...

I checked the website listed (www.yamaha-motor.com/cashback) and entered my serial number with two numbers reversed and clicked the submit button. It brought me to a screen where I could enter personal information (Name, Address, etc) and VIN #, presumably for Yamaha to verify my purchase and know where to send a refund check. At that point I figured my coupon was probably good and that I could most likely enter dozens of different numbers and get the same result. I never clicked the submit button on that screen, so I don't know what comes next...I didn't want to mess with the codes because it might affect someone else's cash back potential.

Being the curious type, I tried a whole bunch of different number combinations (my code is a six digit-number) to see what would happen. Ten minutes later, I discovered the following two things were required to get to the information screen:

1) The code has to be a six-digit number
2) The code has to start with a "2" or a "5"

Anything I tried that didn't have both of the above two things would send me to a screen saying the promotion was over.

Again, I'm just saying what I did and what I saw...YMMV O:)
;)

The Yamaha Factory Demo Tour was at my local dealer last weekend. I rode a new V-max and the FZ8, got fed a free lunch and got the $200 cash back coupon. I brought the coupon home and went thru the online registration process successfully.
The info on the website said to allow 6 to 8 weeks to receive the 200 bucks.
Thanks to whoever it was that started this thread and got the ball rolling.
Free rides, free lunch and $200 cash back !!!

I went to the MotoGP race at Laguna Seca and had my pic taken on the M1 GP bike. In the little photo folder they gave me was the coupon! I followed instructions and MamaYama said she'll send me a check in a few weeks. ::014::

Those things are poppin' up everywhere!

Got my $200 check in the mail yesterday. Funny thing is that I used a different number (reversed the last two digits) than was on my coupon. It was an accident, of course...

I'm not sayin'...just sayin'... 8)

Got any "extra" numbers?

I called my dealer. They cannot get me a coupon.

Look back in this posting thread and there is information that could help you get a coupon number. I think it will get you what you need, but no guarantees.

:-[

Got mail yesterday from Yamaha. In it was a letter dated 9/13 thanking me for the purchase of a new Yamaha and a check for $200.00. Attached to the letter was a note:

[size=12pt]"Thank you for your Factory Direct Cash Back claim, and more importantly, the purchase of your new Yamaha. The claim number submitted was not valid under the the terms and conditions of the offer and could have been denied. However, we greatly value your patronage and are making an exception. Attached is your Factory Direct Cash check, thank you again for your purchase, and we hope you enjoy your new Yamaha!"

Kudos to Yamaha for coming through on this. I'm not going to admit guilt, but they did not have to honor my claim, and did so anyway. I think the only fair thing to do is purchase some OEM Factory accessories.

Thanks to the fine detective work done on this site, I received my $ 200.00 check in the mail yesterday! My form letter had a second statement stapled to it that said the same thing - didn't submit it under the terms and conditions but honored it anyway. Maybe they caught on to how some of these were submitted? Anyway, good on Yamaha for honoring the deal.

I went to the Yamaha site, typed in the first 6 digets of my insurance policy (starts with a two) and that took me to a screen where I entered my name and VIN number, pushed the "continue button" and ::015:: Yamaha said we will send you $200 ::016::
Coupon number does not seem to be required, only the VIN number to prove that you actually bought the bike

I am not holier than thou...but, I feel compelled.

Is it worth committing fraud over two hundred dollars?

In my case, I have a valid card that I received in an above board fashion that has had some administrative issues associated with it. I have all the documentation and have been asked to provide all of it along with how/where I got the card. What is going to happen when there is an issue with the information you have submitted and you have to put your money where your mouth is and produce documentation to validate your claim?

Just my take. To each their own, YMMV, not trying to cause friction, not on any soap box, and I live in a glass house so I am not throwing stones.

The reward is based on buying the bike, not having a coupon in hand. A coupon without a purchase is worthless. Coupons were handed out with no particular regularity. I test rode the bike at a show and no one handed one to me, I attended MotoGp where they were supposedly handed out and did not receive one. My dealer could have provided one but did not know of them. I did however pay thousands of dollars to buy the bike which was the purpose of the coupons. I do not see that claiming that offer is fraud. ::009::

Fair enough, just don't enter the same code I have on my coupon.

I disagree with your statement concerning the reward being based on buying the bike, not having the coupon in hand. The rebate, it's not a reward, is from buying the bike AND having the coupon.

Your statement essentially means that Yamaha should have just given everyone $200. Being as you bought yours on the first go around you saved $600 anyway (MSRP on first PDP - $13,900 MSRP on new S10s now - $14,500) your faith in the marque bringing you a good motorcycle was "rewarded" already.

I feel the purpose of the coupon was to entice people to buy a bike if they were on the fence about doing so. It was a nudge over the fence to pay thousands of dollars to buy the bike, that was the purpose. Not to just give $200 out.

And it's not about being fair either so don't start an occupy Yamaha protest, please. (This is levity and not to be taken at face value, JOKING!!!) Some got them, some didn't so what. Some paid MSRP when they bought the bike some didn't, so what. The presence of a coupon, or lack thereof, didn't stop you from buying your bike.

Stepping down from ::009::

Here's my update;

Yamaha called, yes, that's picked up the telephone with a real person and called me today. They apologized for their error in the processing of my $200 claim. They have corrected the error and I will have a check mailed out to me by the end of this business week.

They thanked me for my purchase, asked if there were any concerns or questions I had, verified my dealer was taking care of me, and wished me a happy holiday season.

Matter closed! Business, done as it should be. Errors happen, they resolved it, acknowledged it, and made sure I was satisfied with the outcome. I have been scolded for my comparison to the "other" marque I rode before this but I am going to say it anyway, there is no way in hell BMW would ever acknowledge the error as Yamaha did and I would probably still be trying to get resolution.

Thanks Yamaha! An un asked for, unexpected $200 will be mine, just in time to go spend it on more motorcycle stuff, within the next week.
