How in the world do you guys wear these tires out so fast? I'm over 6 thousand on mine and 4 of it was loaded down and I have not been easy on the throttle. Lots of dirt roads in Colorado with TC off and I did not even make a dent in my K60's. Probably worn to just about 50% now.

That K60 have 2600 miles... I doubt that it will reach 5500 miles... Look like the K60 worn more faster on gravel road. My riding is 75% gravel, 25% pavement.

That looks about right, it wears super fast down to those grooves. After that it wears at a snails past for most of us. There are some on here that are so hard on tires they kill them fast.

My K-60s are at 25,500+ miles right now. Fresh set is getting mounted on Friday. ;D

I love the K60, my rear has 7k hard Utah rock bashing miles on it and still showing 5mm tread depth at the middle. I will be adding a new rear soon. Front still looks good at 7k miles no cupping or strange wear pattern, constant 36 psi in it.

5,700 and it's done.

This is the third rear K60 I've had. All together I'd done over 19K miles with K60. I'm taking a break from the tire now trying a Karoo 3. At the moment it feels like a mistake. The K60 is sturdy (tough), and as I learned today, it corners very well on a dirt road compared to the Karoo 3. The straight line traction on a dry dirt/gravel road is laughable, but completely controllable.

Before riding the Karoo 3s I would have told you I was done with the K60. Now I'm not so sure. It has some weak points, but they are predictable and tough. Not sure what I'm doing next.

@Dirt_Dad - One of the things I really like about the K60s is how even though I flatten the center out on road riding, when I hit the gravel and lean over, those lugs bite! Today, looking at my k60 rear with 9k on it, it has about the same depth of tread in the middle as my wife's new Conti-Trails have.

But I hear you, the K60's don't like wheel spin off pavement. It takes them down faster. Hmmm, wait, I think that's probably true for all tires! ;)

Love to hear how your wear is on the Metzler Karoo 3's. Supposed to wear better, but they don't look like a 50-50 tire to me, more 70-30 with the bias to pavement.

Everyday...no. But from what I see with the mileage most others are getting, I am pretty hard on tires.

Believe it or not, I think I like the K60 as a great twisty road tire. Every year I go to Ohio with my old V-Strom buddies. The owner of the venue (Goldwing rider extraordinaire) has a reputation as being one of the fastest guys around. For one reason or another I've never ridden with him until this year. This time everyone else backed out of riding with him because they had done it before and he was so far above their comfort level that they just didn't want to do it again. Enter me with the K60.

Just the two of us. We ripped up those awesome SE Ohio twisties in a throttle hammer fest. It was awesome. At times it looked like we were riding in formation, just flying through the twisties. I had a blast. The K60s never gave me a second of concern and we pushed hard...really fun stuff. The K60s may slip in the dirt, but no worry at all on a dry paved twisty. I'd use it again in that situation in a heatbeat. Great fun.

EricV - I never realized how good the K60 was in a corner until today. That Karoo 3 was horrible. Really made me appreciate the K60 more than ever.

Dirt_Dad - I think you put on the same mileage on your K60's as everyone else does. As I've witnessed and as Sail2xxs has noted - you just keep spinning your rear tire in the loose stuff. So the front tire may go 1 mile for every 3 to 5 miles of rear tire use.

The K60's work for me. I only worry about them in the wet when the road is real smooth (i.e. wet tar snakes). I'm not a ham fisted driver, though occasionally I will twist the grip and go. They hold much better in the corners than I thought they would. I'm up to 16k miles on my rear tire. I may find myself in the 20k+ miles yet!

Tom, that ratio is probably about right. It took me nearly 3 rear tires to go as far as you have on your current one. The spinning rear tire theory is also the best explanation of why I don't get the gas mileage everyone else reports. Since my riding is solely for self entertainment and mental therapy it's a price I'm willing to pay. I'm sure a psychiatrist would cost me more than tire and gas money, and not be nearly as much fun.

Checkswrecks warned me about end of K60 tire life and wet roads. Honestly the only wet roads I did with the K60 were with fairly new rubber, and it was fine. I trust the word of others who caution on wet worn K60s. As far as dry, clean pavement, I've never been able to push beyond the limits of the K60...and lord knows, I've tried my best. Worn or new, the K60 is a excellent dry pavement tire for even the twistiest of roads.

Quick question for the Heidenau vets...

My Shinko 705 has about 25% left after 3k miles (and I'm generally easy on tires) so replacing with something else. Looking at the K60 I'm torn between the 140/80 (a bit cheaper) and 150/70.

Can anyone who has run both sizes speak to any noticeable differences in wear? My understanding is they are now the same tread pattern, so all I'm really interested in between the two is $/mile.

Thanks!

Can't help you much with the mileage difference between the two different sizes of k-60's, Cykel, but I can tell you that you will get about triple the mileage out of a rear k-60 in the 150 size, than a Shinko 705. Having said that, and depending of course on how aggressively you ride, the K-60 works better off road, but the Shinko 705 will kill it on the street, thus the more rapid wear. If, like you say, you're easy on tires, you'll have no issue with the K-60, but if you start pushing it hard through the turns, it will beg for mercy.(or you will)LOL
Hope this helps...

The K60 150/70 wears a lot quicker at first but as it gets flatter
it wears longer at 10,000 miles I thought it was done but
now it has over 14,000 miles and its still going . Sadly most
of my miles has been on the street . It takes several thousand
miles to become a descant street tire and has always been bad
on wet roads but its a good all round tire that will go anywhere
for a long time .

If the 140 and the 150 now share the center rib, I would guess they should wear at a similar rate, except for probable load capacity differences equaling wear. Before the 140 got the rib it did wear quicker than the 150.
The Full Bore version of the 705 got me 7000 miles.

Did your Full Bore wear slower in the second half of it's life?

I have a Full Bore on the rear right now. It has got a few hundred miles at best left in it. It should make close to 6K when I pull it off. The 705 I have on the front has just under 14K on it. It is cupped and noisy but still has a lot on tread on it.
