Of course, this is a K60 thread and that is a "lifetime tire" with its supposed wear resistance.
:D Certainly "lifetime" for some riders. Obviously not for you, I or a bunch of other riders.

I ran a set of PR3 Trails and wasn't satisfied with the 8500 miles I got from them, though the wet grip was excellent. For my riding style, dry grip wasn't a factor, I'm not causing the TCS light to flash on dry pavement with any tire outside of the very rare hooligan romp. Returned to K60s and rode ~6k on them during the IBR's first two legs, swapped the perfectly good rear for a new one, (not knowing how many miles I'd ride on the last leg), and have about 8k on that rear and it's still going strong. Did a lot of hot, coarse pavement and a few short bits of gravel on both, but no serious off pavement runs. (~20 miles of fresh, deep, loose gravel doesn't count as serious, but was a lot of fun at 40 mph)

K60s last a lot longer for the riders that don't spin the tires and don't 'strobe' the TCS light. Go figure! ;)

Put on a set of K60s shortly before my trip out West. They now have approximately 7,000 miles on them. They did great on every surface, blacktop, grooved concrete, chip seal, light gravel, chunky gravel, boulders... lol They are cupping, both front at rear. The rear is also showing quite a few cracks in between the blocks. Not sure I'm very comfortable with that. Running fully loaded out West I had the front a 38psi and the rear at 40psi. I'm about 290 in full gear.

You can see some cupping on the front here:

And these are the cracks that have me worried. Only in the rear tire.

Are you running more than 36 psi in them? They seem to crack with overpressurization, but with no real ill affect. I just rolled over 9K on mine, and they look pretty much like yours. Interestingly, 6K of those miles were put on in 2 weeks ::)

I've never seen tearing on the two K60 rears I've worn out or the one on the bike now with ~6k on it. Almost all pavement at 42 psi. I suspect the biggest contributor to the tears is wheel spin off pavement. Just stressing the tread blocks. I almost never spin the tire. Traction is a good thing.

I've had tears on some K-60 rears, and not on others - always run the same pressures - 33-34 front, 42-44 rear depending on loading. I haven't been able to pin down exactly what seems to cause them, as each set has been treated the same way.

Stop talking like such an "expert". With 91k miles on your Tenere you have probably gone through, what, 2 K60 rears?

I've had cuts "tears", chunks, plugs, and WAY worst than I've seen pictures in this post and they still have held air just fine and I beat them to death until they've worn out... I've never experienced any issues and I find that the off road at high speed is what tears them up as far as little cuts and such.... No problems, keep riding ! ::26::

Say what you want about K60's. how long they last. How well they bite. (Dirt-tarmac-rain)

But one thing for sure, they have been TESTED!

Toughest dang tires ever put on a Beast.

When you absolutely MUST get there and back, the K60 is as good a bet as there is.

Thus, why I am on a constant search for something even better. It's the standard I compare to. :)

Oh, and I do it for you all. I'm unselfish like that. :)

I returned from out west on a set that I left with which had 2600 miles on them, 4200 miles later they are still holding strong and did everything I asked them to do. Hot slab at high speed, monsson rains, dry rocky boulders, gravel, mud you name it they've been through it. I am a believer and this is all I will use on this bike from now on. Front looks nice no cupping and I ran 36 slab and about 8 off that off road. Rear has the usual cuts and such and flatter in the middle, 42 psi slab and about 8 off that off road. No issues and I probably will buy a new rear soon and just repalce it.

SW Utah ;D

Some had trouble believe it or not, but the Tenere wasn't one of them ::)

That's very kind of you! ;D

Oh, btw, I'll be happy to take care of your orphaned parts from your S10 when you want to test other S10 widgets for us! :) ;)

Lol

Believe or not, I do part with my unused parts. I have them strewn across continents.
If they are gonna stack up in some corner, they have no value to me.

Now, unused motorcycles, is another thing. :)
They ARE stacked up. Blame it on the Blue Yamaha.

That poor beautiful Honda is collecting dust. I should come over and ride it for you. If you ever think of selling, let me have first dibs!

You make me feel terrible. (I deserve it too)

Hasn't started in 2 years. Filthy. Dead Battery and surely gummed carbs.
Clutch n brake even feel terrible now.

I'm gonna address these things someday. Promise. And when I do, you can ride it anytime you like.

I am just short of 14k miles on them.

Ouch...you really know how to hurt a guy. I'd be really happy if my K60s looked that good after 4K miles.

Like Snake said, if I were taking a long trip I would not think twice, the K60 is the only one I'd put on the bike. I usually don't ride like myself on a long trip, so the K60 is an impressive long distance tire in that situation.

Before I headed up to the Dempster, I put a set of K60's on in my garage - a first for me, but I figured better to learn at home than on the side of the road with the spares that I carried for me and my brother on his Wee Strom. I struggled mightily to get them on - the bead is extraordinarily tight - but I managed. The tires were flawless on the road.....until I got to Toad River after a spectacular set of twisties on a very scenic road, and after about 45 minutes of chatting at the gas station with fellow ADVs, I gassed up and when I pulled away, the rear was flat. I inflated it, soaped it up, and could not find a leak. I waited 45 minutes, with no drop in pressure, and so I figured that the tires were a tad overheated from the twisties, and my acute turn out of the gas line up with full load broke the bead.

Nope. too simple. For the next two days, I would lose 20 psi every 45 minutes, and have to re-inflate. I tried to swap out with my spare at Watson Lake, but, wouldn't you know it, the pinch bolt on my rear axle was seized. On day 2 I limped to Whitehorse (the Teslin Bridge was a real treat, and I will never forget being bitten by every bug in the Yukon while my Stop 'n Go pump finally gave up the ghost and caught on fire), and of course Yukon Yamaha sorted me out - they are flat out awesome people. It appears that I nicked the rim when installing my tires, and managed to damage the bead wall as well. The new set were, of course, fine, and the tires were exactly what the Dempster ordered. I will run the K60s from now on - once the repairs from the Dempster Dive are complete of course!

Finally changed mine out at just over 18,000 miles on them, and not because there was no tread left. The handling was just getting a bit too sporty, especially 2-up in rain. They also howled and rode like knobbies after riding a R1200RT on street tires for a couple weeks.

Put a set of A3s on and am loving life so far.

Went for a 2-up back road ride today and came home to find the rear well down into the wear bars at 7500 miles. Like 'em. Just finished mounting a new set courtesy of the fine gentleman from Tejas. Well actually spkldoe did most of the work and I supplied most of the cussing. Will balance, install and scrub in tomorrow.
