I'm planning on having a set of K60's put on at Yukon Yamaha.....with much thanks to Rem here on the forum. Rem got me scheduled in. So that should get me to Alaska and return me back to Indiana.

We have about 5-6 Tenere in the Whitehorse, Yukon area and Yukon Yamaha has tires to fit our bikes. We are right on your route to Alaska. Yukon Yamaha is a very good dealership and will work hard to take care of Tenere riders. ::26:: ::26::

Perfect..I planned on putting a few dealers info in the GPS along my route in case I need anything...I figure if I do need tires just call ahead and work it into the ride.. Will give them a priority since they are familiar with the Tenere and recommended...thanks for the info...

That's probably a wise decision. I only got between. 6 and 8k out of my K60s. I don't ride like we did on long trips. That would be exhausting.

Good luck on the trip, George. Hope all goes well for you.

..I am putting on a fresh set of k60s this weekend and am also heading to Alaska beginning of June...I am riding solo and keeping packing as minimal as possible...I am in NY so its going to be about 11~12 k miles for this trip...Any chance of making it there and back on one set of K60s?...I plan on taking it easy on the throttle and just exploring on this ride, not like the ride I did with dirt dad at Romney..lol..

I wouldn't call it a chance that they would make your trip, I would call it expected.

I put a fresh set of K60s on before leaving Maryland for the Alaska/California trip and had zero problems. It was a 10,000+ mile ride and the tires went nearly 7,000 past that.

Sounds like I need to get a set of K60s ordered now for my trip the first of Aug. I have heard from others that every place is out of stock.

Yes sir! That is why I order mine in the winter when they will deal on them. Got my current set for under $300. I learned the hard way in the past.

Thanks.. .. Too far from home to ride like that .. I will be in touring mind frame...if you get 8 k out of set with your normal riding then 12 k sounds reasonable for me...In case they don't see my name on the list ..I saw the post on the Romney shirts and am having one of the guys I rode down with order mine with his so it will be here when I get back...

Why does everyone ship tires to Alaska? To save money or does no dealer stock tires? The Tenere is a common size same as Vstrom so I would think some dealers would stock the size even if its a anakee or something else If it will get you home ...its all good...
I havent shipped to AK. I did ship to CA so I knew I'd have the tire I wanted, waiting for me, if I needed it. Odds are you will always save money on the tire cost, but with the shipping tossed in, probably not. But you'll know it's going to be available, and you won't have to settle for something else. Just depends on how picky you are about tires. And how pressed for time you are on your trip. Some people don't mind waiting a couple of days or a week for something to be ordered. Others are ticking off the minutes while waiting for the tire swap. On our AK trip, we have rooms booked for every night in AK and YT, so if we miss one, it screws our entire schedule and we have to ride double our intended mileage to get to the next reservation. Not impossible, just not as fun. Hopefully that won't occur.

I have no reservations just a date to leave a direction and a return date...camping makes that much easier for me since my plans change constantly due to weather or just decide to go check out something interesting...the k60s should make it but if they didn't It doesn't matter too much what I put on because I have a set of mitas at home to put back on and my Vstrom gets the take offs to finish...

To be honest, the only time I got 8k out of the K60s was when the first 4,500 miles were nearly all pavement on the Newfoundland trip. When I ran them in dirt I saw noticeably lower mileage. But if Checkswrecks did it with no problems I'd trust his experience on that kind of trip.

My front tire has 13,000 miles and 6mm of tread. I've been very pleased with this tire!
What pressure have you been running? Are you happy with the performance running this pressure ?

I run 33 PSI and I'm very happy. I drive extremely aggressively on the mountains (paved) roads with Bridgestone Battle Wings (as you know, aggressive street tires) and I've never once been concerned about lack of grip. Okay, maybe once when it was raining in CO and I was racing down a mountain, I did feel the back tire give just a little, but it didn't make me slow down any for the rest of the day.

I've run TKC's on the Wee and GSA and was not expecting more than 8,000 miles out of the K60's, so I feel tickled pink with 13,000 and they are still going. The Battle Wings, however, I was hoping for a bit more than the 10,000 (10,800) that I've gotten, but I do want a sticky tire on the back so I probably shouldn't complain too much.

Not sure where to post this so I pulled this K60 thread out from the search feature so the info was in a central locale for future searched. I just inspected my K60 front after 2+ years and over 10k miles and found the below. Plenty of cupping and the outer tips of the nubs are pretty much all torn as displayed. Mind you... I am not complaining. I got my moneys worth out of the tires and they were great performers. Just thought I'd toss this out there so others can be aware of the end days of a K60 front.

I am not sure how hard I ride cuz I have nothing to compare it to, but I push it as hard as I can. These tires gave me many many miles of grins!!!

Ordered a new K60 front from Jaxon today.

Splits on tyre

I've got K60s on and have noticed a number of splits in the rear tyre. It's only covered about 1000 miles so it's relatively new! Anyone else got this, is it something to be concerned about? I contacted them and they said I'd need to ship it to Germany for them to have a look and see if there was a warranty claim! I won't be doing that!

Re: Splits on tyre

Did you buy them in Germany, online in the UK or from a tyre reseller and had them installed. If from online or Germany,I would re contact the seller, show them multiple photographs from various angles and distances and insist they resolve the issue without the need of tyre removal or you will go public with this and high light the poor quality of the tyre which is deemed a critical the the vehicles safety. Unless this is 'normal' in which case ignore me!

Re: Splits on tyre

What is the manufacture date stamped on the tire? It is 4 digits, week and year. That's what determines the real age. Freezing temps shouldn't be a problem. Most of the 50/50 tires are rated M&S. (Mud & Snow) Good Luck getting it fixed and watch it closely in the meantime.
