cyclemike4 , temptation to much for me , pulled the trigger on the Lexx slip on . 199.99 at Rocky Mountain with free shipping.
Yes the Lexx is loud in the open configuration. The great thing is it comes with a quiet tip and a spark arrester installed. One word of warning though if you are going to take the tip off the pipe let it warm up completely. They have locktite on the screws and they need a little heat to come out. I am running mine open right now and riding it easy it is not bad at all but get after it and it will make my super T with a two brothers slip on sound like a whisper.

Oh I forgot to mention that my stock muffler put so much heat on the bike I was afraid it was going to melt the side panel. the grab handles on the back I have my back pack bunged to was so hot after even what I consider a short ride you would not want to hold it long. I thought it was going to melt my bungies. Now the bike is cool and I can actually touch the muffler after a 20 mile ride! the sub frame and side panel are no longer hot at all. Also it is a LOT lighter than the stock muffler! A LOT!

all good to know as I ordered the lexx this morning and Rocky Mountain says its already on the way. at 199.00 I'm thinking why not . FMF and that type with a mid pipe runs around 600.00 . so I figured I saved 400 or so . I like what you are saying in how it improved your bike cyclemike4 .

replaced the stock exhaust today with the Lexx .... about 40 minutes to swap it out ... sounds better and best of all not too loud . so for 199.00 from Rocky Mountain I think it was a pretty good deal. everything seems well made and the bike sounds like a motorcycle. stock exhaust weighs 14lbs , the Lexx 5.4 lbs , did not weigh the mid pipe but guess its a 1.5 lbs or so . so around 8 lbs off the bike . sadly if I would loose 50 or 60 lbs imagine how well it would run then...

so after jetting the bike as per pro cycles instructions the bike is so much better . so after putting the new exhaust can and mid pipe Procycle says one must open up the air box (snorkel all ready removed ) and go to the next size jet. but the bike seems to run pretty damn good with out the next step. hmmmm, what to do?

I am at the same spot as you. I have left my air box alone. I do have the snorkel out though. O.K. it may not make that extra half horse that you may or may not get with the air box opened up not sure. But the fact is the thing is running so good at every rpm and every throttle setting and any speed I really see no reason to open the air box. The only other people I have been around that have DR's have not opened up the air box so seeing what that really does I can't say. I am going to leave mine alone.

I really didn't want to cut up my airbox either. Instead I drilled some holes in the cover as shown in picture. I also cut a 2" diameter hole in the top with a hole saw. Snorkel has also been removed. The airbox is only sold as an assembly for over $200, the cover is a $20 part. If I wanted to return the bike to stock, I would simply buy a new cover and plug the 2" hole with a caplug. There is plenty of dyno evidence from ProCycle, Motolad and Kientech showing a nice increase in power when rejetting and increasing airflow. I'm happy with the way the bike runs, it gets 50mpg, it will do an indicated 100mph (maybe 95 actual) and the plugs look good. Bike has stock gearing and a ProCycle SS1 slip on.

had planned to do some road testing this weekend . but the wind is really blowing here. maybe you're watching the F1 race at COTA in Austin Texas and you can see the giant flags pointing straight out . difficult to really know what the bike is doing fighting the wind. so will play with it later in the week .

150... Thought about trying a 155, but decided to leave well enough alone. Elevation around here is 800-1600 feet.

I have the 145 installed (recommended by Procycle , before new pipe ) . Procycle says to use the 150 with the more open exhaust along with Airbox mods. so I'm thinking of going with the 150 , but will ride with what I have for a couple of weeks before changing it. just so I understand what the current set up is doing.

was planning a test ride last weekend but way to windy .... 40 mph with gust. so this morning ,once the sun is up , I will do a little ride some where . need to see how she is running with current mods. temperatures are very nice with a high forecast of 70 f.

just as windy as last Saturday but from the opposite direction .... did 58 miles .... butt is not happy .... will be ordering a new seat , so for y'all that have a Dr what seats have worked best , and every butt is different . I really like the Corbin on my Tenere , but 500 for a new seat for the Dr ... so probably a Procycle or seat concepts ... one thing is that when I stop and get off the bike and as I look over it to see if everthing is still there . I notice the new exhaust can is no where as hot as the stock exhaust . a plus I guess. throttle response is great . still a calm day will help me more than a day fighting the wind..... does really easy U-turns , light is right. would like to determine a MPG . hard to be consistent with wind and playing with the now snappy throttle .
more later.

hey Madhatter. I have a seat concepts seat on my DR. It is wider and is softer than the stock seat and is much more comfortable. The thing I find is the seat has a bit of a crown on it and will put pressure on your tail bone a lot like the stock seat did. Not bad but it is there. I have enough miles on it now that it is starting to break in and feel a lot better. I have done 250 plus miles in a day on it and was good. I have seen one of the pro cycle seats and it appeared to be dished a bit looking like it would take some pressure off your tail bone. I have been running the 150 main jet and have been getting 53 to 54 miles to the gallon. If I ride it hard it has been dropping to around 50. The other day I put a 14 tooth countershaft sprocket on it to get a better slow first gear. Odd thing is in the first tank and a half after that I have been getting about a mile and a half better fuel mileage. The last two fill ups have been in the 55.5 miles to the gallon. Time will tell on that though. I also have not had it on any high speed roads. I see it falling off big there.

I don't know how you lasted 58 miles on the stock seat. It has to be the most uncomfortable seat ever put on a motorcycle. I have 3 seats for my DR650. One from ProCycle, one from Seat Concepts and the stocker. The ProCycle one is pretty good, but it was built on a used Saddleman seat pan. I guess that's the way they did it in 2018. The one from SC has a gripper top, which I don't like at all, when they say gripper they mean gripper, you can't slide around at all without giving yourself a major wedgie. The foam density is about right and the seat is comfortable as long as you don't move around. I plan on doing something different this winter, maybe ordering another one from Seat Concepts but only in all vinyl or recovering the one I have. Cyclemike is correct, the ProCycle seat is slightly dished out a bit.

thanks guys .... as for the 58 miles I did stop half way and walk around for about 30 minutes...... cyclemike4 , it is great to hear your getting such good MPG's out of your DR. I've yet to determine a consistent MPG . but ive only 212 miles on it. what milage do you guys have on your bikes , and was there a point when the bike just seemed to get better? I seem to remember on my 2009 DR it took about 2500 miles for the bike to feel "broke in " , and from about that point its mpg were great , never changed a thing on that bike , stock carb settings and stock exhaust . had the decelerations pop but no off idle stumble and got 50 to 60 mpg.
the neighbor is complaining about bad MPG. he did the same carb re jet , stock exhaust , snorkel out . I'm going to play with the bike this weekend and will know more by Sunday evening I think .

Oh I forgot to mention I have the slicker vinyl seat on my DR from Seat Concepts. I hate those gripper seats! I do like to move around on it. I have 8000 miles on the DR now. I don't remember when it really started to break in but it was fairly quick. Especially quick compared to the Suter Tenere. that bike took forever but it finally settled in great. I seem to get better gas mileage than others in or on about any vehicle I drive. I am just not that hard on things it seems. But the DR is a low RPM motor so it should get about the same for anyone. I don't brake into corners then gas it up and drive out. I am more of a flow through the corners carrying road speed and not so much throttle change. I am sure that helps mileage some.

so when my buddy complains about gas milage I point at his wrist . he wears out rear tires as he likes to gas on it .
we have a bad weather threat today , if we survive then tomorrow looks like a great day to swap out the handle bar on the DR. and I think I may move the clip on the needle up one notch , carb may be a bit rich .... but really need to ride it with out heavy wind just to get a "normal " ride to compare how it is running.
