That was a freaking ride down that hill, glad you got the picture of the rock ::008::AVGeek said:
I fell on Ophir Pass, and a rock tried to hitchhike down the mountain with me...
That was a great ride. I enjoyed it thoroughly. You all were a great group to ride with that day. I'm glad you took the trophy and took it in stride. I think I was the front runner after my misadventure on Imogene Pass. ;DTwoLukes said:Hello S-10 fans from Hot Vegas. Yes, JoNeil and I made it safely home, a 757 mile day through beautiful Southern Utah and yes, it was 115 on the ride from St George to home, but what a trip!!! Thanks Jon, for being the lead and a partner all the way home).
To all who went, thank you for opening my eyes to this new sport. I don't think there was a person there that didn't help this newbie in some way, always answering my newbie questions. It was fascinating to hear all of Snake Bitten's stories and tall tales . . .
To my "100 miles of dirt road on street tires" friends, thanks for helping out with my "bush" episode and leading me down that path to begin with.?.?. (I have just ordered K-60s from Jaxon today). CD Martin, Memphis Dan, Hernia, and Oil Field Trash, you made this week a memory I'll keep forever. Thank you.
Jaxon and friends who set this rally up, great job! My Dunce Cap Trophy rode proudly home on my top box, with the little kids waving to my "Wrench Man" as I passed them. Yes, I had to explain it at every gas stop and I did it with a smile! (I think JoNeil was embarrassed I had won such a dubious trophy, as he refused to ride behind me all the way home, not wanting to staring at it ;-) It sits proudly on my dining room table as a war trophy! (No, I'm not married, so I sit it where I want it!)
OK, I'll get some pictures posted of the crash as soon as I get them downloaded into something . . .? I'm new at the forum stuff also. You're all a great bunch of riders and I'm proud to have met each of you. I look forward to the next Rally . . . . . Whoo Hooo!!!! Luke
It was great meeting you, and a well deserved award! LOL...put up the picture and story so everybody who was not there, knows what is going on.TwoLukes said:Hello S-10 fans from Hot Vegas. HAHA that first climb up Cinnamon was a little intimidating. I remember thinking "WTF, seriously this is how we are going to start this ride?"snakebitten said:I turned left and reached for the stars!
Most fun I have had on a bike since I was a young and fit kid.
Looking back, I'm glad I did the loop clockwise. I'm more comfortable going up in the challenging parts. Going down the other side of Engineering pass was far less ruff stuff. After 4 miles it opened up to haul-butt gravel all the way to Lake City.
Of course, the whole thing reversed on me doing Cinnamon pass back to the forks. I went up on the easier half and down that nasty last part.
Truth is, I never dropped the bike all week. But that very last part of Cinnamon was at the end of a 6 hour loop and I should have caught my wind a bit when I got tired.
A video camera would have caught me with feet off the pegs and hanging on to FuManChu for 2.7 seconds. Lol
Crazy fun that day. I'll never forget it.
You 2-up explorers are my heroes! I still can't get my head around what yaw accomplish sitting down. I don't get it. I simply bow to you.
Glad some of you folks entertained my Vstrom brother. He had a blast too.
Yea, if your first attempt to doing Colorado off road passes on an S10 was from the starting point at the forks, you got an evil welcoming. No warm up. I should've invested in Pfizer Pharmaceutical stock before I left. They call those passes Hemorrhoid Hill for a reason.snakebitten said:As for doing it 2-up?
Like I said earlier, there are summit pictures of husband\wife combos that verifies it can be done. Stunning accomplishment on an S10, in my opinion. It requires a sitting down technique that I don't have in my bag.
I marvel.
