I tried several boots after my foot surgery, but settled on the Alpinestars Scout WP boots. Sidi is a great boot too, but I needed more vertical room in the toe box......the sidi adventure boots have a hard shift protection piece on top of both boots, so that didn't work well for me.....Alpinestars are only available in whole sizes, so I also went up a 1/2 size to a 12 and that helped me as well

Trinc4me, how do you like the Scouts? I was looking at those too. I prefer more vertical room as well. How do they break in? I need good up and down flex in the ankle, for better reach to the ground.
Any input on the Scouts is appreciated.

I have the Scouts and love them. I am able to walk around quite comfortably when investigating old mines and such. I couldn't do that in some of the "plastic" boots I tried. My main criteria for boots, beyond basic construction, waterproof and protection was to be able to walk out should I get stranded. Sometimes in Montana that can be a good long ways.

Speedstar,

As hipshot indicated they are very comfortable boots. Unfortunately, mine are still like new so I can't provide input on how well they flex and break in. I did order the Sidi Adventures and had to return them. The Scouts are comfortable right out of the box.

Sidi On Road. These are truly waterproof. I've been running these for 6 years now. They're fairly comfortable to walk in too, although I always bring along a pair of hikers if I'm going to be out and about off the bike or in camp.

Trinc4me and Hipshot, thanks for the further info on the Scouts. I will put them on my short list.

Sidi Adventure here. Not the 'water resistant' U.S. version, but the Goretex waterproof Euro boot. Has the usual SIDI squeak, but incredibly comfortable from the second I put them on. Here is the post I made when I first got them last year...and yes, I'm still loving this boot!

--------------------

Well, well. Would you looky here:

The astute among you will have noticed not only the Gore-tex paper tag, but the metal Gore-tex badge affixed to each boots' upper.

The rest of the story: We just returned from Germany where we make a trip about once a year to visit some of my wife's family. I watched anxiously as the U.S. dollar lost value to the Euro over the last three months (The Euro went from $1.25 U.S. to $1.40 U.S. over that time period). That would not only make the boot more expensive for me, but the entire trip. But, was I going to let a little thing like a weak dollar stop me? Well, yes I was. The exchange rate and MwSt tax (the German VAT tax) refund would play a roll on deciding if the Goretex Adventure was to come home with me or I would settle for the U.S. rain-resistant version.

So I stopped at a motorcycle store chain called Louis there in Munich (Incidentally, a previous poster said the www.louis.de won't ship to the U.S.). Hoping that the in-store price was the same as their online price of 309 Euro ($432 dollars), I stopped at a store. They had only two pair on the shelf;size 42 and 44. I needed a 43 since wear a 9.5 U.S. shoe/boot size. Well, they found a size 43 in back and it fit peeeerfect. Very true to size for me. Store prices include the MwSt tax of 19% and various businesses give you a discount up to that % depending on how much you spend. Some previous purchases of lower value had given me only about 10% back. How it works is you pay the full price including MwSt and then get refunded some or all of that (depending on what each business gives you) at the airport with the bill of sale.

I decided that 309 Euro was fine by me even without the MwSt refund, so I checked out. I ended up with a 42 Euro credit which I got back at the airport. That would bring the price down to 267 Euro or $373 U.S. dollars. I paid $2 less than the asking price, in the U.S., for the U.S. version. Life is good! I took some pictures of them because they will never be this clean again. I'll report back after putting some miles on them, but see no reason that my experiences will be different from others that have posted; comfortable, good protection, water proof, and squeaky! Ha.

Another W-I-D-E foot owner here.

Have had a difficult time finding boots that fit comfortably due to my size: 9.5 EEEE. That size is either 43 or 44 European, depending.

I have a set of the Aerostich Combats. Great boots, and they actually almost fit (size 44). I wouldn't call them a very good off road boot, though. The ankle support is lacking, and I wear a pair if ill fitting AlpineStar Tech 3's for serious off-roading.

Amen RonH!!! A good motorcycle boot gives protection yet allows the feeling of the shift lever and the braking as an extension of our foot!

I love my Sidi On road Gortex boots and I'll stay with them. I tried on the Sidi ADV boots and they were just too "plastic" feeling. Probably great for protection, but comfort was lacking for me. I need wide boots too as I've had broken bones, dislocated toes, bone spurs from this and some of my toes don't bend up past horizontal. i can't even get my feet into most boots, let alone try to wear them. The on roads work for me. I tried other boots like Redwings and such and they aren't a motorcycle boot, they don't work. Nothing against Redwing, Caterpillar or any boot, I'm sure fine boot for work, just not right for a motorcycle. You may think they are right, but try a quality motorcycle boot and you'll not return to a construction boot.
True that........ Today im leaning toward the TCX Infinity... not sure yet..

Agree totally! I wore good quality Redwing boots for many many years, but finally bit the bullet on REAL motorcycle boots about 7-8 years ago. I would not go back.

I wear only Sidi boots and mountain boot shoes.

I have a pair of FlexForce off road boots and a couple pairs of street boots. If I start riding a bunch off road, I'll probably modernize my boots to something lighter and less bulky. I need to order another pair of racing boots because I've worn the sole off of my Vertigo Race boots. I have a old pair of Tepor (waterproof) Vertebra boots that still work like a charm when the temps drop.

With all the hype around the Sidi Adventures I went to a motorcycle shop and decided to check some out. Let me preference this by saying just because this was not the right boot for me, doesn't mean it isn't a great boot for others. All I can say is that I'm glad I went and tried on a pair before buying them online. I struggled to get the boots to fasten, but was finally was able to get them on with the help of the cute Asian girl working there. >:D I quickly found out that if you have muscular calves and wide feet, these are not the right boot for you. They didn't have the Sidi on the Roads, but those definitely look like the more logical choice for me. I'll check other places and see if I can locate those before buying online. 8)

I just got my Gaerne Adventure boots. Only worn them around the house but like the other Gaerne products I have had they are slipper soft, very supportive and have a great lugged sole. Also totally waterproof. No squeeky joint either like the Sidi. Good pricing also, like in the $250 range

Funny about the picture...my kids. I could pretend they were giving thumbs up to my boots but they pretty much could care less about a detail like that. No, that was clicking and posting without previewing. That picture was supposed to be the boots ::)

Aerostich Combat Lite's for my on/lite-off road stuff (what I will be doing with the S-10) for me.

Bulit like a tank (they are made by SIDI - come with a SIDI label in them!), comfortable to walk around in all day, plenty of protection and decent flexability. http://www.aerostich.com/aerostich-combat-lite-boots.html

For my real off-road / single track adventure's on my KTM 530 I wear SIDI Crossfire SRS's. I sure would not want to walk around in these all day, but very comfortable when riding and great protection as well.
