Hope I can make this one. What will the snow be like around June 11th?

High passes will most likely still be snowed in. I know it doesn't line up with the other event you guys mentioned but I was thinking more like mid to late July... thoughts?

Moab would be unbearable in July but the Colorado Mountains passes would be open and Colorado is prettier anyway.

I have been following this thread. I have been a Tenere owner for less than two years and a member of this forum for about the same amount of time.
I have never attended a rally put on by this group.

My question is what exactly goes into a "national" rally?
Are there tech sessions, seminars or published routes? -JEP-

Sounds like you've been around here for about as long as I've been gone.

But I still can likely give you a fair synopsis of what to expect. ;)

First, it's a Super Tenere event. So, it IS literally a group of the same fellas you have been hanging out here with.
In fact, the most confusing part is figuring out what to call everyone. Is it Steve? Or is it eemsreno? ::)

In regards to what all is included in the rally? What to expect? I can only tell you that historically, when you get back home, it'll be the adventure (riding) that most folks file away as cherished memories. Super Tenere rally participants are often the guys that R I D E. And no other bike has ever attracted a better bunch of motorcycle humans. None!

Which brings up the only advice I'd offer........
Ask around before ya pick a group to ride with. See who is the "unofficial" lead rider. (I say unofficial because the guy influencing the pack might be riding as caboose!)
And look out for the guys with the scratch and dent Teneres. Yea, you know which "trails" they're likely to drag you too.
Hint: especially blue or black PDP bikes

As far where should the 2017 get-together be? I really don't have a preference. If I can just fan this current spark back into a proper & rightful flame, it won't really matter.

But know this Steve, I ain't shodding no e07's, or whatever dual-sport tire you have PROVEN can go from Iowa to the Arctic and back. I need more traction than you. :p

Limey! Steve!

Yaw know I ain't exaggerating when I say I miss yaw much more than I was missing riding.

Having said that, I woke up about a month ago and finally had an urge to ride a bike. I didn't care which one. Anything that would actually start.
The first 2 I tried (because the keys were already in them) didn't even wake. Dead batteries.
Went and found the keys to Big Beast. Turned it on. It cycled through its sweep.
I'm thinking no way. Hit the starter button and it was a less than enthusiastic initial rpm. :)

But it lit! I was stunned.

Rode it into work. It was awesome.
Still, didn't want to "manufacture" the desire, because that backfired previously. But after riding several days in a row, I woke to high 30's and rain. The real deal wouldn't even have second thoughts. I cautiously geared up. (had to dig out the inclement riding gear)
It was the best ride so far! Had that yellow tc light blinking its heart out. We bonded again. The S10 is just so perfectly sorted out.

So, I took her into my trusted service guy and he was not believing when I drove up. I explained that I might be ready to pick up where I left off. And since it had been absolutely perfectly reliable and shook off anything and everything I threw at it, I'd like him to give it a complete look-over and make sure she's ready for a second 45k of bashing.

Two intake valves needed adjustment. Valves were beautiful. No carbon. All 5 fluids flushed. Swingarm bushings serviced. Steering head bearings..........

You get the idea.

Anyways, I've not driven the truck since. Soooooooo, I think I'm feeeeling it.
Logged into the forum. Read the stack of very kind wishes from many of you gents.
Steve left a link (from a year ago) to a ride report. It was crazy magnificent.

Do I need say more? ::013::

Lousy timing though, huh? Lol
December?

Life is funny

Thanks for reading that Alaska R.R. Bruce, Remember you were supposed to go with us. It was one of the wildest crazy trips ever. So much fun! I can't wait till my granddaughters can read it and see what their daddy and papa do for fun.

Hope we can all get together again at the Romney Rally next spring. I have another granddaughter do at that time so I'm not sure if I can make it.

Thanks for the warm welcome Tennessee Steve! Feels like home around here discovering all the guys are still here.

eemsreno Steve, yea that's exactly why it was the first thing I did after I sifted through the neglected pm box.

But honestly, while a part of me was saying to myself "LOOK what you missed! An EPIC adventure"
The realistic part of me flat out admits I likely wasn't up for your iron-man pace.

However, you've made me dig before. In fact, my standing "epic" adventure was all your doing. (forever grateful too)

SNAKES BACK!

Let's kill a fat calf. I know where one is. Good to hear you and let's hope 17 will bring us all some good riding. Dirt Dad, Spklbuk has been busy too settling into new houses. Trike is all thur with school. He rode the entire TAT on the worlds biggest dirt bike. He made us all proud and gained super human status among those that don't know him. Hope we can draw Chris out for Romney he and Lee are up to 4 girls now. He's probably busier than all of us. Steve is just and always will be EPIC. Patrick still amazes me how well he can ride and not touch the ground and he still has his Navy vocabulary. Tenn Steve's heart ticking right along talk about blessed! Gunners brothers took a hit this year and that was tough on his community. Limey is on the mend broke his lower leg in CO rented a UHaul and drove 48 hours straight Thur to Canada. Luckily it was his left leg. Silverbullet is working on Chris mileage. As well as others! My 5 yo 12 model only has 33,000 which means it could last me the rest of my life.
I had a detached retina (3 surgeries) that sidelined me for 10 months. Still working on new place and haven't put farm up for sale yet. Romney is still a class event thanks to DD and Wreckerchecker I hope we all keep our health and can make it! The western slope of CO sounds awesome too and a better chance of seeing our western brothers. Glad your back Bruce! Seems like a long time is little man in your avatar driving yet? :D

Fantastic summary, True Grip. I found that helpful. Yes, Checkswrecks and I will be firing up the Romney tread in just a couple of weeks. Time to think about warmer weather, and good friends getting back together.

Welcome back Snake!

OK, let's do this! I, for one, can appreciate the CO western slope suggestion, since it's an easy day ride from Vegas (an I'm sure I will want to get out of the furnace!). I may have to go ahead and hold onto my bike a bit longer...

Heh.. heh... heh!!!! I will not take any offense at this, I promise.

But I will say that in 2014, when I pulled up to the Romney event and finally put a face with Snakebitten's username - he immediately sussed Fancy up and down and proclaimed her as the "rattiest" Tenere out there. Since then, Fancy has not been meaningfully washed AND she did effortlessly complete 6100 TAT miles in epic style. I am coming to Romney this year and hope to see all you apostles of TBDBITW. Not sure if I will have Fancy there though as I dented the front rim to the point that it will not hold air over time and I am having trouble finding a salvage front rim. I might just come on the FE501s!!

Bruce, glad you are back in the saddle and I truly hope to cross paths with you again at Romney if you can make it out.

Oh... and my $0.02 on a rally location as it pertains to the eastern suggestions. The WNC idea is not bad if you like pavement and well groomed gravel roads. But if you like to get dirty or just wanted the option, then that area is suboptimal. Romney is a great gathering but in a not-so-great location for access to true offroad riding. If there was a desire to have a rally in an eastern locale that was accessible to half the US population via a days drive, had infrastructure in place to house/feed/entertain a wide swath of riders, and had endless options of paved twisties, gravel of all kinds, and dirt trails that will make you shudder - then the best place in my honest opinion is the New River Gorge region of WV.

...and between spklbuk and trike we have two of the most knowledgeable riders of this region. Few people anywhere know as much about their state's roads as spklbuk knows about WV. Trike has taken me on several rides in this region where you'd swear you were riding dry (or not so dry) creek beds only to learn it's an abandoned road. He's taken me on the most interesting off pavement rides I've done in the last few years.

IL, the land of straight, flat, boring roads
Allow me to join the "welcome back Snake" tangent to this thread, if I may. Great to see you back on the forum, Texas Bruce! We all missed you. And a reminder that the Springfield Mile will again run on Memorial Day and Labor day weekends and I still have great tickets available, so ya'll come back, ya hear?

BTW, I have joined True Grip in having retina surgery, although of a different kind, but am happy to report that I am now able to ride off road again. Couldn't see the ruts, etc well enough to ride off road when I had that problem. Also bought 2 DR350's, actually a 385 and 435 for some fun dual sporting, so if you ever decide to do the LBL ride or anything in the Midwest, let me know. Since I have an extra DR, you are welcome to use one if you are in the area.

Now, back to our previously scheduled program................ ;D
