I found this place looking around on the internet.
They have everything we need but I haven't contacted them and know nothing about it yet.
Just a thought.

What do you guys think? Looking for ideas.

I for one could feel right at home camping out in the mountains for free but that doesn't cut it for everyone.
Not very many tent sites:

Looks more RV oriented. They do have cabins.

This was the place I had in mind. Showers, tent spots, meeting house, 8mi from Montrose (fuel/mechanic), and centrally located for a myriad of cool places.
I like your choice much better.
I don't think that place I linked would even let me in. :D

I've driven by both and I would say the other one is quite a bit smaller. My main reason for my choice was location. I just got lucky that they had the amenities. There are three epic pavement twisty rides right there. Three easy off-road passes ( kebler, owl creek, last dollar Ed). And then of course the high passes are super close (Imogene, Ophir, cinnamon, engineer, stony, corkscrew, California). I didn't mention black bear because I don't want to die... There are endless combos of rides to take!! I'm sure there are more than I'm listing. I'm just wondering where we'll end up on picking dates...

Don, it sure sounds like it.

Yea, it was an amazing site to see 100 Teneres invade the territory.
We were like ants. Lining the boardwalks of every town.
Might be the best Tenere month of my life.
Already loved the bike. But that experience revealed it was much more than I even thought.

I just discovered this thread. I live in Hotchkiss, CO, which is about 40 minutes north and east of Montrose. I'm familiar with both the Blue Mesa site and Jellystone. Blue Mesa is pretty RV specific. Plus it is a bit worn. They do have what they call a primitive area, but that has water and electric hook-ups. Very few tent campsites. Jellystone is just out of Montrose, which is a bubbling town with all the amenities. I think there are other in Montrose. I would be glad to make a recon. Also, Gunnison has some nice campgrounds. Cycle World, I believe, does one of their training sessions there. Lots of nice riding in the area, too.

If I can help in any way as a local scout, please let me know.

What about hotels/motels?
If you can hack it you'll have a lot more fun camping and it's a great way to meet some awesome people.

No dates yet. Preferably after the snow is off most of the fun stuff.
And both the places mentioned so far have cabins and lodges, no hotels needed. Even the old KOA had cabins.

I'm standing by awaiting dates. I want to do the COBDR after the rally and then swing west to do the IDBDR on the way back to Canada. So ideally the rally would be around the middle of July. That's less than six months from now!!

Merry Christmas all. David
