Man I like your idea of the black hills. There is a nice trail set up called the Dakota Adventure loop "DakAL" that runs through the Black Hills. I have only ridden a small section of the DakAL so far but I will be back there again next June. The Dakotadualsportriders.com have small rally based just out of Deadwood that I will be using to hit more of the DakAL trail and get a better feel for the area.

This sounds like a great trail, all ready routed and scouted. What I like about this thread is it gives us all ideas for great adventures whether we make it to a rally or not.

Idaho sounds great too. It was the last of the 50 states I have visited (sans motorcycle). I remember remote interesting locations like City of Rocks and Craters of the Moon.

I've been planning a vacation next summer to Montana with Michelle in Aug. If the rally was out that way, we could do both in one trip. That Lolo trail was great! Ghost town hunting is fun out there.

Limey, organize one in Ontario. That would be my second choice. I rode 3 days across Ontario on my way to UT this year and it is beautiful.

Timing... it's always a timing thing.

I have been trying to attend a Tenere' rally for years but have yet to get to one.

This year I'm already scheduled to attend www.ridemsta.com's STAR 2017 in Colorado June 11 - 15th and I will ride this years www.sc-ma.com's Three Flags Classic September 1st start in Abbotsford, BC and end September 4th in Puerto Peñasco, Sonora, Mexico.

So I'm anxiously awaiting the dates for the 2017 Tenere' Rally.

Idaho sounds better IMHO.

Thanks for your work on this.

Your post is the exact reason I started this.
We need dates early so guys can plan to be there.

Guilty, as charged with no defense but in a State with so many fine roads and gravel opportunities, can you blame me? Personally, I would like to see another CO installment. I'll be ready for that.

If an Eastern Rally ever comes to pass, Tellico Plains would be my choice. The BRMC is nice but it's 2-3 more hours to drive there (if coming from the West) and then most of the good stuff is an hour or 2 west of it. The Farmhouse can hold a good-sized crowd and they have cabins for non-campers. Motels nearby and Knoxville/Chattanooga are about an hour drive if anyone wants to fly in and rent something. There are three companies (that I know of) in the area that will hook you up. September or very late August would be best time to avoid the worst of the heat and humidity. October is booked.

There was an impromptu Rally (at Crawford's Campground) held in 2013 and 20 or so riders showed up. Lot of guys from Florida, Georgia and couple from Jersey. Not many NC riders from what I recall and to be fair, the Tenere was still kinda new to people. We can do better, next time around.

That is a stereotype I am working hard to break. No one herelives farther east than me... unless they live on a boat. ::025::

I have a couple of suggestions:

Dubois, Wyoming
It's a small town East of the Jackson Hole area but has several motels and campgrounds and it's not as pricey as staying in the Jackson Valley. From Dubois you can ride West over the Togwotee Pass to Teton National Park and Jackson, WY or Yellowstone. For dirt, there is the Union Pass Road, a pretty tame route from Dubois to Cora (near Pinedale, WY). Other dirt routes that are not difficult in the area include the Grays River Road, and the Ashton Flag Ranch Road. You can also ride up to Cody, Wy and see the Buffalo Bill Center and Cody Firearms Museum.

A little more West:

McCall, Idaho
A small resort town near the IDBDR with plenty of motels and a State Park (with showers) for camping.

Or we can look at the NW Colorado area with Dinosaur National Monument, Flaming Gorge, Browns Hole, Steamboat Springs

I ate breakfast in Red Lodge last August and rode the Beartooth 8)
I wonder what kind of dirt is around there? Riding around Yellowstone is no fun in the summer. Too many people. We used to rent snow machines in West Yellowstone and ride around there in the winter until they closed us out.

Limey has been riding in Colorado, Wyoming and Montana to much to enjoy northern Ontario any more.
