Hey folks,

I don't want this to turn into what works what doesn't.. Just a few of my thoughts on parts / power / dirt roads... ::003::

As many of you know Ive had the 'bag-O-parts' mod done for quite some time. (muffler, header, PCV-AT, filter) Compared to a stock bike this has been an awesome set up for me. And many of you have heard me say that this set up 'for me' was great. I recently got the flash and added to this pile of parts. (After my back to back comparison to another customers bike) On the street it 100% changes many aspects of the bike.. bla-bla-bla-bla.... Yesterday was the first opportunity that I had to ride this new package on some dirt roads. This was the first time Ive ever thought this bike was 'fast'... On dirt, maybe a little crazy fast..

Ive always ridden this bike in (S) with traction turned (OFF).. I road my bike this way all the time except a few times in the rain. Yesterday in the dirt that was NUTTS.. No way dude.. 1-2-3-4-5-Etc just kept spinning the tire anytime I touched the throttle. I flipped it to (TC1) and in that mode I could ride the bike and have fun like I use too.... :D The TC light just blinks dang-near the whole ride. At one point I stopped and flipped it to (TC2) and then preceded, it was really fun definitely hooked up more. I got the poo-poo scared out of me when cooking a little flat track action in a nice sweeping bend. The traction being on 2 just about high-sided my dumb butt, and then rocketed out of the corner faster than I have felt on this bike before. Down this straight away I pinned it and for the first time said, HOLY S&*% this thing is freaking fast.. I was thinking, I now have a little better understanding on why Yamaha might have put some restrictions in the 'stock' software. So the average rider can go have a great time out on a dirt road with out killing himself. The flash with these other parts is so much more responsive, and in my case I might even use the word 'violent', that its much harder to just go 'put-put' around..

IMOP, this is where the (T) mode comes in. In the past I NEVER use (T) mode. Yesterday was the first time that I seriously thought, in the future 'dirt work' the bike will be in (T)... (S) is crazy and you have to have a lot of wide open dirt roads.. ::26:: I still ride (S) on the street though. I will now be riding my bike in (T) and (TC1) in the rain, no joke. :D I now have a better idea what Yamaha might have started out with when they developed all these (S) / (T) / TC1 / TC2. If you have the set up that I have these values TRULEY come into play. They have a real purpose. After the -Y- engineers make it able to come in the country, it makes me wounder why any of these came with the bike other than maybe a sales ploy.... Any who, just wanted to pass on my thoughts about the new -part- on the bike and what a nutty difference it made in the dirt.. Its a WTF moment..
Everyone knows about these different parts so lets not get into he said / she said, tons of post on these parts.. These are just my thoughts on the parts after the install.. ::008::

Exactly what I wrote after the flash, Jaxon. It is scary fast and I now finally have a purpose for T-mode! ::012:: ::012:: ::012::

The bike now is exactly like it should have been from the start (at least for me).

I know it's not why you posted, but CUT IT OUT! You're talking me into this upgrade. Are you trying to get me divorced? ::025::

X2, I have to agree 100%... Ive had many conversations with many ST owners about these parts.. With this set up, it truly is a freaking beast... I love it ! Even if I do have to ride in TC1 and (T) mode now.... :D

Jaxon - best guess...how much do you have in 'YOUR' bike in upgrades...just the upgrades.

$1500? $2000?

I thank you in advance
That's about right... The only place I saved a few bucks is, I bought an Akrapovic off of Ebay from another bike about eight months before the bikes got here. And made it work on my bike.

Thanks Jaxon. I've noticed a beastly bottom end and I'm sure the mid-to-top end will be equally transformed once I install the catless headers, PC&AT. Will stay with OEM silencer though.

seriously ????? why would you change the headers, add a PCV and use the standard end can ??? that is a pointless excercise my friend ::008::

Re: Re: Yesterday was the first time I thought my bike was "fast" !

I understand your reasoning, and here's the thought process.

First, I belief the CAT to be the most significant choke point in the S10 OEM exhaust. I've had other bikes that had pea shooters for mufflers, the S10's doesn't seem bad in comparison. Secondly, I've never seen an aftermarket exhaust last anywhere near as long as an OEM. Third, I live in a Japanese neighborhood, which gives a whole new meaning to the words 'silence is golden.' :-\

After the header is installed, a quick check without the PC hooked up should reveal how much (or little) the airflow has increased. A ratty running engine would be telltale.

Not claiming to be right, wrong or certain of the results. If I'm not satisfied once all is dialed-in, I will opt for the Akra, which will be a simple muffler change. If nothing else, going through these motions will just add more data to the mix...and I've got nothing but time. ;)

Ok i know your going to have to change the tail pipe to get the true benefits of the other mods, and the akra is probably the quietest of them all, and best quality 8)

Jaxon, I couldn't agree with you more. My bike has the stock ECU. One of our forum brothers (HoebSTer) graciously let me take his bike with the ECU flash mod out for a test drive. I still can't get the grin off my face. What a game changer.
To anyone reading this I want to do a shout out to Jaxon for his excellent service with the Altrider skid plate I bought from him. TOBASCO you rock. I ordered it and the delivery guy was already knocking on my front door. Freaky fast delivery. I would recommend him to anyone. Thanks.

Jaxon,

Is your ECU Unleashed flash "for the headers/muffler"?

ac
Supposedly,.........

I told them I had headers, PCV, AT, can, air filter,... I want to use -Mid- grade fuel..... No one knows what the hell they did, but it works... LOL

Jaxon,

It should be easy to figure out if what they did is "good".

Set your PCV to the "all zeros" map. Then let your AT do its thing. If the flash is "good", you should get no-very little trim.

This isn't perfect, because theoretically the ECU Flash was done on a dyno for max power ALONG WITH safe AFR. Your AT target AFR is more of a "whim".

Are you still running the o2 Optimizers? I have HEARD the ECU U flash is locked in open loop. So your optimisers probably aren't doing anything.

Nice write up in the original post. I am the example of why Yamaha sends it stock the way it is. As a newbie to off-road, I will need a tamer version while practicing my skills. At 45 years old, I can't learn like I used to by getting thrown to the ground all day. Although the stock version is tame compared to the "enhanced" versions, it still has plenty of nuts and guts for what many riders need. The ability to be able to modify the bike to meet the needs of the more highly skilled (i.e. crazy :)) riders is icing on the cake. Again, you hit the nail on the head with your post.
