I mounted Bumot side pannier systems in place of the OEM panniers and it was easy with no problems. My top box is a Kappa 52lt and a Givi SR371 rack, which I have to raise because the Bumot side cases are higher than OEM and the wide top box does not fit in place... This modification was expected and I already have a plan and supplies reserved for it.

Finished AZ prep maintenance. All fluids replaced. New rear Trailmax Mission and clutch master seals. Today was fork oil and steering bearings. Fork oil was 18 mo and 20k mi. Pretty funky. Need to move this to annual schedule.

Steering has been smooth. Repacked. Some funk at the top cleaned up easily. Bottom looked like new.

Not hard but can get messy. I made my own spring compressor and damper puller. A couple big sockets. Ring nut wrench. Best learned with someone who has done it before. I will change seals and bushings next time (a few more steps plus you need a seal driver). No leaks so I didn't bother this time.

I got some Stainless brackets made up... Everything wired in and ready to go...

I'll post a few better photos with the bar switch. I have everything on independent waterproof relays, with micro-switch's. I have introduced a momentary pod, I can push the button and momentarily have any set of lights come on independently... (Light set up now: 2 pairs of Squadrons / 1 pair of S2 Baja-Designs) Just some extra BDR, late night, desert crossing, deep back country off road, dead man's cave exploring lights ! ! ! ! What prompted this was Jarbidge, NV at midnight............ Go see for yourself. LOL

Wow lots of extra work, looks very nice.
So you actually painted the top triple clamp brown ?
Whats that gold colored stuff behind the triple clamp ?
Lots of extra decals.

Thank you......

Triple trees were powder coated about ten years ago "for fun".... Just fun with colors...

The gold, it's a racing heat reflector for the air box. I noticed the air box temps quite a bit higher than ambient. Being in Texas we have some crazy heat / heat soak.... This 'gold' brought it back to ambient or even a few degrees below ambient.... Way back when we did a lot of tuning on these Tenere's, the heat affected the fueling. Being we wanted to have close tabs on fueling I needed to have a better handle on the air box temps, heat.....

Stickers: the bike is old.. With all the Tenere events and gatherings, it's been fun to add a sticker or such.... Fun conversations at events.... Now Im just collecting the BDR completion stickers.... LOL

Any concerns about busting up the plastics in a drop? Those light brackets are an absolute work of art but also appear to be a nice set of levers to transfer impact to the mounting points on your plastics.

If the bike was on its side, laying on the crash bars the lights should be tucked in quite a bit. They should be good. I think maybe I’m a bit lucky. Even with all the off road I do, I very rarely lay the bike over. I’ve had it on its side twice, and I think the last time was 2013.
But your right, anything is possible. If I busted stuff up, I would just build another set of brackets and fix the plastic parts. No big deal really.
I tore the whole bottom out the first day of the IDBDR. I had to duct tape it all up. When I got back I beat it back into shape and it’s like new again. Literally…….
I look forward to the safety and use of the new extra lights……..

I’ve not had to change the oil yet in upside down forks. Are the S10 forks hard to get back together over standard fork design?

Just asking as it may be worth my while to make a jig before they need to be done.
I had never repaired USD forks before, but with the help of this forum I got some great tips and made some of the necessary tools. I like to do maintenance and repairs myself and also learn new things, and this job was one of them.

So, I don't think it's any harder than a standard front fork if you have the special tools for it. Just changing the oil doesn't necessarily need special tools, but I recommend disassembling the forks and washing the parts well.

If You go that far might as well replace the bushings also, also don’t forget to get a new washer for the bolt on the bottom that holds the cartridge in place.
