You are wise about that, That recall is very delicate work and easy to mess up. I would not like anyone doing it to my bike eather.
Thanks. I honestly went back and forth about it and decided that i would rather take my chances that it will act up a bit before just immediately going full send.

Would it be possible to just get the recalled part and install it oneself rather than have a dealer do it?

You could call a cool dealer like rmatvmc in colorado and see if they would order you one, but i have a feeling that yamaha is super strict about these.

I agree, unless the dealer really knows/trusts you, I don't see that flying. As you know, there's some people that claim/think they're good mechanics, but, in reality. . . . If they let you replace the part, and it failed again, they would claim you did it wrong. I understand not trusting people with your bike, but if you're going to take advantage of a recall, you're going to have to let them do the work.

My local Jeep dealer's service department sucks ass. Every time that I've had warranty work done, I've had to go back, and have them repair something they screwed up while doing the warranty work. The only time this hasn't been true, was when they replaced my Takata airbags; makes me wonder if they actually replaced them.

When i worked for a dealer we had to, iirc, provide proof of destruction for airbags we removed. They were very strict. It was to prevent anyone from reselling them on the grey market.

I would bet they did replace them, but you gotta wonder if they installed the replacements right....

Yes it is possible. I have a friend who owns a '12 S10, he ordered the recall wire harness parts
and he intends to do the work himself during the Winter.

Followed the instructions from the 37 second YouTube video and did the free flat seat mod. It makes a difference!

Getting ready for AZ. Flushed Coolant, Replaced Brake/Clutch fluid, Rechecked TB Sync. I want to get a couple final IL rides in before replacing the rear Mitas E-07+.

Altrider crashbars were mounted and the Navbar stabilizers from @Ladlesport were painted to match and put on my trusty companion. Did it two weeks a go but never got to take a picture.

While mounting the bars I found one of the forks leaking, so after getting a lot of information from @~TABASCO~ I found I place I could trust with my bike. Picked it up again today. Very pleased with the explanation, quality and price.

big thanks to Tabasco for the help!

Ok, I definately trust your knowledge and expertise, but the manual only specifies high quality ethylene glycol, w/corrosion inhibitors for aluminum engines. What is special about blue?

Just as a data point and not as an argument; I'm using the standard universal Prestone "All Vehicles" pre-dilluted 50/50 coolant in my Tenere for 50,000+ miles and in my Previous Honda ST1100 and ST1300 over 100,000 miles each. Works fine, In fact there was always a couple of coolant drops hanging on the end of the water pump drain hose with the OEM coolant, not enough to reach the floor, but it always worried me a little. Since replacing with the Prestone, that has completely stopped. Better seal conditioners maybe? It's kinda greenish/yellow as opposed to blue though.

That is what I've used for the last 28,000mi/3 years. Hoping ~Tobasco is just messing with me. Yamaha team = Blue.

As I understand it, the Valvoline Zerex Asian coolant is also good to go and preferred by a fair few sport bike guys.

As long as it falls into that category... Im not a total anti-freeze "know it all" expert.. LOL. Ive recently got a 'new' education on antifreeze and all the colors and ingredients... Most antifreeze manufactures have now broken them down into many colors... Asian Blue is what they call it at the store. That is made for our bikes. I have a Tenere buddy that has thrown in the "normal" yellow one or two times and he is about to go to his second replacement water pump. He has lost the water pump seal again. Probably because of the antifreeze he used. It damages the seals.....

So for anyone that reads this and wants to buy antifreeze, just get the blue and be done with it... The colors mean different ingredients.... :):)

Blue is for different ingredients... As long as what you use falls into "what you can use", you will be fine :)

I have a Tenere buddy that is on his second water pump probably because he dint know any better and threw in the 'normal' Yellow Antifreeze. I need to throw the second one on. The seal is leaking.

I did use engine ice in my fz6 for its entire life and the water pump went 40k when i sold it and its still going.

So that one is safe for sure. Its mandatory at the tracks i used to ride at, and safe in all JP bikes that i know of.

Agree on the green/yellow/red...it may work but you would have to do a lot of homework.

After quick research, it looks like what you need to avoid is any with silicates, which was the old standard. When I first did mine three years ago, I found the Prestone at the neighborhood auto supply which specifically stated All Vehicles, and compatible with all other coolants as a top off.

Your bike looks awesome ! I just noticed that 'stock' skid plate.. Keep an eye on that "famous" rear mounting bolt inserted in the rear of the oil pan. I just had a conversation with someone the other day that punched a hole in the back of the pan... Just a friendly FYI :)
