A semi-successful run down the BRP. Parked the truck in Clear Brook, took 522/340 down to Waynesboro. Met a guy on a Honda at a gas station who had been through before, so, after a short conversation we decided to run a ways down together. By the way, getting gas before you get on the BRP was some great advice from the folks from Winchester Motorsports.
The scenery was as you would expect, awesome, you'd want to stop everywhere. But I was there to ride and that's mostly what I did. The Tenere is an exceptional piece of machinery, plenty of power, good brakes, quite agile and very good on gas. The first day was nice sunshine until the sun went down, that's when things changed. I was well suited for inclement weather, four-season outfit, those heated grips, and used to the cold being from New York. Only real issue with the bike is I'm vertically challenged and throwing that leg over the seat got tougher each time I got off. Did not expect the fog at night or as many dear as there were, but I survived and stopped in the small town of Stuart. Unfortunately Wilville Campgrounds didn't answer their phone so I stayed in a small motel instead. Good thing I did as I found out that severe weather was coming to where I was headed, change of plans. Note, route 58 west of Stuart has some pretty tight and fun curves.
So, decided to head back the way I came the next day, and go figure its cold wet and foggy. The ride back through was considerably slower and I stopped at a few more areas like Marby Mill, not bad for a guy with no college degree. After all was said and done , I had driven 700+ bike miles in 2-1/2 days not bad for the first ride of the season. Will definitely be back some day but Tail of the Dragon is next up like mid-May and the Outer Banks for the 4th of July. I'll be searching for posts that are in the west for next years moving up ride, like Grand Canyon or Rockies I'm open to suggestions. I'll try to figure out how to post up some pics at a later time.
Anybody know were I can get a job just riding motorcycles? What a way to make a living. Enjoy and be safe out there.
