I rode the S10 today as well. I probably took one of the last rides of the day. The bike had 340 miles on it, after my ride. I got it up to 85mph on a back road, and didn't feel any vibes. I liked riding it even better than the first time I rode one down in Dallas.

I have to believe that everything will smoothen out as the miles add up. I wonder if the st10 computer optimize and learn as you ride. My BMW did thar after resetting the computer. The computer continuously monitors and adjust everything and stores optimum settings after several hundred miles.

......or is that how the rider works ???

Ummm, where are they headed next?
I'm not sure, but the guy did mention Charlotte NC and then I think the panhandle of FL. He also said they were taking a couple of weeks off.

Thanks for the reports.

As for the throttle snatch, it could be the bike was not broken it yet. I have a WR250R that had the throttle snatch when new. It was like an Off/On switch just a hair above idle. Either I got used to the bike as it broke in, or the issue faded away. After I put an FMF EFI programmer on the WR, the issue is totally gone.

The BMW F800GS I owned had very bad throttle snatch that never really went away. It too got better as the miles went on. It was around 3000 RPMs and was bad. Like had to feather the clutch during low speed turns bad. After a few complaints and computer reflashes, the throttle snatch went onto the 4000 RPM range. Better for low speed riding, but still there.

I'm thinking the throttle snatch issue is just a by-product of EFI and emission testing.

It was good to see a few from the site while at the demo ride.

It was great to finally get to experience the bike, I did notice some vibs in the handlebars that seemed to go away after setting it to Touring mode but it was still a new bike and the vibs Jim experienced the day before weren't there yesterday.. good sign. I'm coming off a silky smooth ST1300 so there may be some character the S10 has that the ST doesn't in that respect.

Still getting the bike... at first I was thinking why not save some $$ and get a V Strom instead but the more I read about those the more I think the S10 will be more to my liking.

I had to drop the seat into the lowest position and then it felt just a hair taller than the ST but much lighter so not as much of an issue.. slow speed stuff on this bike just seems like you're on a bicycle and not a motorcycle.

Can't wait 'til July or August...

Or September, November?? only kidding. Glad you still want one Mellow. The wait will be worth it. You will be sorry to lose the ST1300 though ... I really miss mine. ::)

Thanks, I'm keeping the ST1300... it's paid off, has 50k miles on it and a 300 mile tank and is smooth as glass...

Time will tell if the S10 will replace my ST as a sport tourer but at the moment, I don't see that happening. It's a great bike, I can tell it will be... just don't believe it's in the same category as the ST when it comes to sport touring... I could be wrong and if I am, I'll sell the ST to pay off the S10... so it's a win win situation in my opinion.

That's my boy. I kept my FJR so as not to lose the big touring bike action thing. :)

As I said, it was just a matter of me developing a smooth throttle hand when rolling off of closed throttle and I no longer noticed it, so it wasn't a problem.
I tend to agree with you on this Fred. I've heard a few people now say they thought the throttle was snatchy. I said the same thing about my Vee when I first got it. Within a few hundred miles I'd recalibrated my wrist and it was no longer a problem. I rode a euro S10 last year and didn't notice any sort of snatchiness. It may be significant that the people who are noticing this problem are coming off multis or bikes with a very gentle bottom end response.... in the cases I know about, a Goldwing, an ST1300 and a Strom 650. I'm sure most people will adapt fairly quickly and the snatchiness won't be an issue.

Also interesting to note that none of the tests so far have made an issue out of this. I would guess either the testers are used to bikes with this kind of throttle, or they have enough time on the bike to get used to it.

I also suspect the snatchiness is based on what you're used to. There was a guy on on stromtrooper.com that recently moved from a DL650 to a DL1000. He kept talking about the problem of the "on or off" throttle response and how hard it was to get used to. It was one of the main factors that caused him to give up on the bike pretty quickly. I honestly have no idea what he's talking about. Everything I've done to my DL1000 is to make it more responsive, from lower gearing to a hot PCIII map, I want more hit. But I'm used to dirt bikes like a KTM520 and CRF450X. The idea of a mellower response from the throttle is something I try to eliminate from a bike. I'm looking forward to getting my test ride in two weeks down in Roanoke, VA. I'll see what happens.

In my opinion, this is what a person expects from the throttle response. I have ridden many other bikes, not just a goldwing. I expect the throttle to come on when I want it, not a tad later. I like a tight throttle, so normally adjust all the slack from the cables that I can, without lifting the plate. This being a fly by wire throttle, that may not work.

If a person has to get use to a bad throttle, that does not mean the problem is solved. That being said, sometimes that is all you can do.

Hmm well delayed throttle response is not what I think when someone says "snatchy". I think something that responds very quickly to small throttle inputs, to the point where there's a jerky on-off transition. Japako, if you were finding a delayed response, that's something that needs to be investigated. Shouldn't be like that...

I agree, Trevor. I can adapt to instant (snatchy) throttle response, but a flat spot is something that I would have to find a cure for.

Quoting a review:

"Yamaha Chip Control Throttle (YCC-T) electronically controls the throttle valves for outstanding response and improved controllability at all rpms. The YCC-T is used to provide even more control of the intake air volume for a smoother torque character. Special main ECU actually features 3 internal ECUs to control ignition, fuel injection and the YCC-T. The ECU that controls the YCC-T is capable of responding to changes at a speed of 1000th of a second".

From real world test rides it appears the YCC-T is not living up to the ad hype.

I also agree, a delay would not work for me. A fix would be in order if thats the case.

I'm bummed I didn't get to make a demo ride. :'( I was in Eureka Springs AR in the middle of the Hillbilly Dual Sport ride. Several of us were thinking about making a quick run to Texas and back but knowing some of my hooligan friends the S10 would not have made it back to the dealer. >:D
