@sail2xxs - Works for me. I'll have ~3k by next week this time and probably another 2-5k by the beginning of Sept. Been busy and not getting out as much. I already pulled the OEM Metzlers and installed Heidenaus, and do expect to be going some places I'd prefer to have the crash bars and skid plate. I'll just have to be careful.

PM me with details when you get ready for your trip if nothing has changed. Thanks for posting up an option Chris.

@ EricV - I will post updates on this thread as more info comes in. Still hoping we can get 7 more folks lined up, but I'm somewhat doubtful. I'm planning on going with the K-60s when the OEM tires are due for replacement. They were probably the best thing about my 800 GS. ;) Are you running the 150 or the 140 rear? Sorry for the threadjack!

Salty, if you read this, let me know your thoughts about this potential way of getting the bars as well. I am waiting to hear back from Deon about whether the air freight needs to go to a commercial address or not. I don't have access to a commercial address in London, but we might be able to find a London-based S10 owner who may be able/willing to help out.

Best,

Chris

I have the 150 mounted. Not nearly as loud as I expected on the street. Haven't taken it in the dirt yet. I will this weekend.

The UK riders are great, I think someone will step up if needed. Can you do will call?

I'm not sure about will call - totally inexperienced in this kind of shipping.

I will post the link to this thread, or perhaps start a new one, on ADVrider to see if we can drum up a couple more folks.

Had the 140 on my 800 GS, and loved the original tread design. The new design (Scout) has a center treadblock that doesn't do you many favors in the mud or snow, but is a great, long wearing tire that does a great job on all other surfaces. I stayed away from soft sand, so have no idea about how it would do on that.

Time to respond. I do much appreciate the commitment expressed by Sail2xxs and Eric V and yes I will take part with you both with the UK deal, if we can't do the marine shipment. On record I have verbal commitments for 4 myself, Sail2xxs, Eric V and toompine ( if still interested). We have 5 others who have expressed great interest but not committed at this time. If Vilageidgit, AV Greek, DaFoole, adventurider76 and japako could respond to this notice and let us know if they are still interested and committed this would greatly help as to what direction we are going.
Sail2xxs regarding the UK deal. (1) Best to check with UK customs to see if they will remanifest intransite to the US and what the cost are.
You do not want to pay fees in Brittan as you would be the sole importer
(2) Can the shipment be remanifested individually state side for import purposes or are you the sole
importer (ie) (a) intransite to various states and Nova Scotia
(b) state taxes
(c) air side (carrier) and customs inspection, handeling cost
(3) excess baggage and weight cost verses commercial shipment cost.
(4) are you useing an import broker re import and customs documents for US customs clearence

Just another thought, I have been trying to explore this. Frends and or family currently employed with the millitary or overseas private industry who might be able to ship home with personal belongings?

Salty - I tend to take an over simplified view of things sometimes. I figured if the bars make it to London, that they would fit nicely in my checked baggage, and that would be the end of the issues, except for distributing when I get back to the US. I haven't had the chance to post this on advrider.com yet, but I think we could pull together additional interest there, and might very well get lucky with finding someone who has interest in the bars and experience in shipping. I'm willing to do whatever I can (within reason) to get this to come together. My time/patience limit is the wearbars of my stock tires - once the K-60s go on, I will need bars. Until then, I'm a patient man. :D

Best,

Chris

I would be interested in getting a set of these, but I would need a fairly firm price to my door before I would commit.

Chris, sorry for perhaps overstateing, but I work in an inspection-enforcement enviroment in the federal gov. (not customs), job hazzard. Over the years I have witnessed various disapointments endured by both private and commercial importers / travelers which in most cases were very costly to them. Wouldent like to hear this happen to you or anyone else being a good sumaritan and bringing in, importing, multiple motorcycle add ons for distribution to participents in a group buy. So if I can help let me know.

I am still very interested in purchasing a Rumbux rollbar/ skid unit, and as it seems that the marine unit of 10 is not working out. I am very much committed to your proposal, dot your I's and cross your T's

Bump! So where are we on this deal Chris/Sail? I'm still in. Haven't dropped the S10 yet, but whacked a few rocks and would love to have a guard/skid plate lined up.

Eric,

I dropped off the map for a bit - sorry about that. Did the trip to the UK, and had no news back from Rollbend, so returned empty handed. There is a good chance that I will be going again in December; I will try agtain then, but with more lead time for Deon.

Best,

Chris

Well, thanks for the update. I'm not liking the lack of a skid plate or crash bars on the bike. I may look for alternatives, defaulting to the AltRider parts if I have to.

Ok, I contacted Deon at Rollbend and am setting up a purchase to be shipped airport to airport from SA to Las Vegas, NV. The cost quoted for two sets, shipped, is $395 each. This does not include the approx. 24% import tax, duties and tariffs. I am going to try and find a shipping agent working out of the Vegas airport and get a better idea of the import costs, but most likely will do this deal. Both sets are spoken for at this point. This method seems pretty strait forward. I expect the cost to still be reasonable in the end, likely $500 or a bit more per set.

Deon says they are making some changes to the bash frame and new design will be ready in a couple of weeks, so I'll hope to be ready on my end when he is ready to ship the new bars.

I'll post more when I have more info. I suspect that this will be a cost effective way for interested people to get these in small batches to locations easy to pick up.

Yes, he quoted me $460 for a single, which was the airport to airport price. This is a nicely discounted price too. They are still new to the international shipping, but his shipping agent seems to be giving him good info. You would want to contact Deon and ask for a quote to the nearest international airport to you. Then, like me, try and talk to a shipping agent on your end to firm up the import costs.
