I have recieved a email from one other Canadian who would be interested if the $ can be significantly reduced. I read some where in this form that a suggested price of $950.00 rand or there abouts was the price in S. Africa, and I may be worng. This converts to about $ 138.00 Canadian. If this is true, the balance of $ 1068.00 must be for ground transport, taxes ? and air fare ?.
If we can get enough buyers on board. We should be able to negotiate with an export broker in South Africa to buy on our behalf and send in a consolidated container to Halifax or New York by motor vessel, for considerbly less $. The individuals then could make arrangments for delivery to their address. I have already inquired through a Marine Survey here I know who will get me some names to follow up on.

Hi Salty,

I checked with the manufacturer in South Africa, and unless there is another manufacturer here, then the proce is actually R2960-00 in South African Rands. Converted to USD it is about $441-79

The manufacturer is RollBend and the website is www.rollbend.co.za

I saw it in person fitted on to a S10, and must say it is a very sturdy product and well made. The integrated skid plate is also thick and I reckon it is a worthwhile extra. Does take some ground clearance away but not much, concidering the extra protection on hand.

I'd be interested if the price was right and if the right side covers were accessible with the bars in place
thanks

I have heard back from Deon at RollBend - SA. The unit price is $430.00 US and can be shipped export and sales tax free from SA. He is looking into ground transport $ to a marine port of exit and what shipping lines operate from there and get back to me. I will question the value added tax in SA which apparently has been applied to the cost and and should be refundable as the purchase is being made outside of South Africa. When I have the port of exit and the names of shipping lines coming from there to North America, I will look into associated cost through an agent here. This will ball park tentative cost. The question then will be how many units to order and how will that # influence cost reduction.

Thanks for all the leg work Salty. Out of all the bash plates and crash bars I've seen, I like this setup the best.

These are the best set up I've seen as well.

Haven't been posting much here, but am definitely up for a group buy.

If you post this on the S10 thread on advrider, Rollbend might stay busy for the next 3 years! ;D

If you order 10 sets: $ 540.00 US Dollars each x 10 = $ 5400.00Packed in one crate (2000 x 850 x 600mm) Price for marine shipping to Halifax. No SA taxes charged. Price is FOB (Free on board), Halifax, Canada Insurance is included in price Client responsible for Canadian rates and taxes. Price for just up to port, Halifax Payment upon loading documentation, Durban, RSA I hope this meet your approval.

If we can get 10 + committed purchasers, I will follow up with requesting further detail from Canada Border Services as to best handel this at Halifax port for Canadian buyers and proceedure for US in transite. Could some one else follow up with US Homeland Security, so that we are all on the same page.

Questions to be forwarded or researched ?

Salty - thanks for checking into this.

Count me in as a *definite* buyer.

I was in Nova Scotia over the weekend, and would be perfectly happy to ride the S10 up, install the bars in Haluifax, and ride home. :)

Let me know what the next steps are.

Thanks,

Chris

If I'm reading this correctly, the $540 each price covers the shipping to Halifax, but not any duties or taxes once arrived, and possibly not unloading costs, (if any). So once the bars are in Halifax what additional costs will be involved, if any, before folks can start figuring shipping from Halifax to their door?

And sorry, but are you willing to re-package as needed and ship individual bars to folks or is it strictly the buyer's responsibility to pick them up or arrange further shipment?

Not sure if I want to do the 6 day ride to pick them up and ride home. But life is an adventure. ;)

EricV thanks for the reply and your interest. At this time it would be difficult to answer your questions regarding custom charges and or severence warehouse charges at the port of Halifax or at the port of entry for the US. This info would not be available untill we can confirm the number of bars ordered and weither or not there is more than one crate.
What I am hopeing for is enought paid orders to support two crates from SA. One for Canada and the other for the US. Where duties paid and possiable customs inspection charges + handeling charges ? would be applied would be determined at that time and be dependent on how many US intransite bars there are leaving Canada and what charges would be applied in the US.
On the other hand if there are many more US orders than Canadian, it would make more sence to enter NA through Phillidelphia and the fewer Canadians transport to Canada.
As far as shipping, I don't mind helping out were I can, but where members of this form are spread out mostly across the US, it would make more sence that each individual or small local groups make arrangements accordingly. Keep in mind that where ever these bars cross the border is where you will have to submit import documents and fees.

I wonder if any of the MC dealerships would be interested in ordering, a long shot, but interesting.

Thanks Salty. It's a nice looking bit of kit, but I think I'll pass. I like the protection levels, but it also looks to add a bit of weight to an already hefty bike. I'm just going to go with the AltRider bars and skid plate. More $$, most likely, but a bit less bulk and weight. The all in one approach does have appeal and I wish the project the best.

I really like these bars, and very much want to see this come together. Shipping is a fairly minor issue in the grand scheme of things. Warranty issues are a different story. Actual "field test" reviews would be great, and would go a long way to helping anyone sitting on the fence take the plunge. Salty - any way you can get in touch with your contact at Rollbend to see if he knows of any real world experiences with this set up?

sail2xxs I have not been able to find any test, comparison or product experience sites at this time. For the meantime take a look at this site, Rumbux, it is a little more informative. Perhaps Yahmy can find something in South Africa and forward some site addresses. I belive this may be the best system so far, lets hope we can get enought NA purchasers to geather. Yahmy as you originated the first dialog and contact for this product can you help with some product test, comparison or experience sites.

Much appreciated

These are by far my favorite as well, but I'll have to figure out how to get them to Texas. :'(
Why not ride up to Canada, put them on, and then go to the TransLab? ;)

What about picking up a smaller number of bars in SA and bringing them home? These guys http://www.motorbikehire.co.za/dualsporttours.htm rent S10s and offer guided tours as well... perhaps we could get a "group tour" rate on the tour? Try the bikes in an area that few if any of us North American folks have had a chance to ride and come back with some bars! :D

Just a crazy thought. But would it make sence if you were to form a group of 5 to 10 in roughtly the same area..... Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana.......... That could have a crate shipped from Philadelphia or Halifax to an agreed central location for individual pick up and split the transportation cost. Arangments would be made through an import broker or other ? The same concept could be applied for other general locations.

Salty -

Great idea! With the many regional gatherings people are starting to put together, perhaps there's a way to have the bars arrive there?

www.uship.com is not a bad way to ship items like this, and can be very reasonable.
