Vacation approved!!
::003::

This will be as epic and bucket-listy a trip as I've ever taken - I am SOOOOoo grateful to have a landing pad out there where there will be people with S10's who know the lay of the land.

Is there a thread anywhere to introduce east coast noobs to riding big, arid, places?

Do I need to carry gas? Do I need a plan for rain, mosquitoes, or cougars? Does the BLM have black helicopters that shoot at lost goofballs from the east coast?

Vacation revoked!! Starting new job in a few weeks.

Have fun, be safe.

I would love to attend. Just show up with a tent strapped to the back? Coming in from Albuquerque

I will be riding up from 'Querque also...

Although, I'm curious about the tent space. When I called the other day, to reserve my space, they said it would be $72 for 3 days ???
I thought it was like $11 a night?

Sounds like they were trying to put you in a camp site with power.

Did you tell them you wanted to camp in the group tent camping area?

We have the group site reserved for us under name Yamaha Super Tenere no additional reservation needed unless you want a cabin or an rv spot. Confirmation #P7892 rate is $11 per night this is for the group site only.

With four or five other Tenere riders saying they want to ride out to the Utah rally with Michelle and I , It looks like we need some kind of plan.
So here is what I’ve come up with.
We will be meeting up at the Des Moines Quick Trip NE. 14th St. and I80 Saturday Morning Sept. 17th.
We will be leaving right at 7:00 AM. So if you need coffee, fuel or food be there and ready to pull out at 7:00.
We will stay on I80 west for a couple hours just to get some miles racked up early. On the west side of Lincoln we will drop down to highway 6 west to highway 34 and stay on 34.
We should be able to make it over to Fort Morgan, Colorado to camp free in their city park that night.

These link doesn't work right unless you copy and paste it into your browser.

Sunday we will stay on highway 34 west into Rocky Mountain National Park. We will ride the old Fall River Road to the top.

Work our way down to I70 [no direct plan here] and west to Moab, Utah.
At Moab I would like to take Michelle up Onion Creek to see that area, then into Canyon Lands to ride out to Grand View Overlook and then down the Shafer Switchbacks and back into Moab on Shafer Road and Potash Road. [This might be on the ruff side for some riders with street tires]
Then south to Goosenecks State Park, Valley of God, and Muley Point, I’m hoping it works out to camp out on Muley Point that night.
Then Monday we head west on highway 95 and work our way over to Burr Trail road. I would like to ride the Wolverine Loop trail [more ruff stuff, good off road tires may be needed] off of the Burr trail and some other good side trails. [everything will depend on the weather]
There is a good looking side trip on Poison Spring road to the Dirty Devil river that might be fun.
Cottonwood Canyon Road south of Cannonville looks good.
Anyway end up at the rally campground Tuesday afternoon.

If anyone from out east or the Midwest wants to join up with us feel free.
This is not an organized ride with a leader. I'm just telling you what Michelle and I are planning to do and if you like what you read and want to ride along, good.

We do camp and hopefully in some remote places.
You'll need food and drinks for evening and morning. There won't be many or any restaurant stops along the way.
We may ride hard but not much speeding [I hope] We don't Lollygag at gas stations. When there is good stuff to see we take our time and pictures.

I would like to propose that everyone meet at Rays restaurant at 6:00 PM Tuesday for supper and so we can all get to know each other and plan for rides.

Hope to see you at the Rally.
Steve

Steve if possible I would like to meet up with you Sunday somewhere along I-70 or that evening at Moab. I will be riding south on the CDR from Banff Canada and had planned to break away from the route somewhere around Vail and detour west to the Utah rally. Would like to ride those off road sections in Utah you mentioned. Once my trip dates firm up I'll PM you.

I'm on the phone right now, with the resort, and they are telling me it's $11 per person, per night.
So, if you are a couple, it will be $22, per day.

Hope more Teneres join in along the way.
Man I wish I could make it. I tried to ride the Old Fall River road three time and it's been closed every time .

A bit sad to say it, but I've decided to bow out. I'm using the majority of my remaining vacation to go to Australia for MotoGP. I just can't do both. Y'all have a great time though.

There's a Cowboy Cabin open now though.

I am still working on logistics but am planning on attending what is shaping up to be a great event. First, though I have to spend some time in the garage fixing things that went south on my ride up north this month. Once I know I am able to attend for sure I will contact the campground and register. Cheers, David

Good to see more Canadians, 5 of us from BC heading down. If you are camping in the group site its reserved already just show up. If you want a cabin you will need to reserve.

I'm in. I have a reservation of one of the chuckwagons for myself and my sweetie Stephanie (on her own bike!) starting Monday. Looking like this will be as close as we get to a national rally this year, and I haven't missed one yet! See y'all there!

Hi Doug,

Let me know when you're riding by and I'll join you guys for the trip down there. The bunk house is always open too. Looking forward to the trip!

;-) Paul
