Goofed around on some back roads headed up to Riders Hill this morning and what do ya know, hit the first traffic light in Dahlonega and checked my rear view mirror and of all things I see a black Tenere behind me. He followed me on over to Riders Hill and it was the one and only MudNut from this forum. He had seen the post last night and rode up for coffee and I guess to see if there was indeed another Tenere in north GA. LOL

As it turns out MudNut seems to be a great guy but he and another riding friend I know convinced me to ride the loop with them and these guys are fast or I’m just slow but my God I couldn’t keep up with them. Oh well, it was a great day for a ride and I really enjoyed chasing them around the mountains even though I’ll be playing catch up tonight trying to get all my chores done.

Hey MudNut, it was great meeting another S10 owner and if you ever feel like slowing down a little bit lets ride again soon.

The following are a few photos from today’s ride.

Bahill, it was great meeting you as well. And thanks to you and Jason for showing me the new road.
I enjoyed trying to follow Jason and maybe learn a little about riding, and what I learned is that he's a great rider and I couldn't keep up with him ;D. The Tenere did great; felt like it could do way more, but I'm not there yet with riding on pavement.
Great to see another Tenere on the road, and meet another S10 owner. I Like the way you've farkled your S10 too. If you don't mind, can you send me the link to the lights you had with the harness that plugs into the stock wiring harness?
As it turned out, Bahill and I both passed ANOTHER black S10 on Richard Russel Scenic Hiway (I think that's where it was).
Looking forward to riding with you again Bahill. By the way, do you know EVERYONE at Rider's Hill, or did it just seem that way?

Hahaha no, I don’t know everybody at Riders Hill but over the past couple of years I have met lots of nice folks there that ride and I run into other riders that I knew or know from other places that stop in at Riders Hill. I do tend to hang out there a lot. My schedule is usually tight and I try to cram in as much two wheel time as possible. So on the weekends when I can’t devote a whole day to riding I’ll try to at least get in a quick ride. I will take off before sunrise and try to be in the mountains around sunrise and ride for a couple of hours and make it to Riders Hill when they open for coffee. Most of the time after BS’ing about bikes and having coffee I head back and can be back home being productive by 11’ish or so… unless I run into a couple of bad influences that talk me into riding, I will not mention any names though. >:D Believe it or not this happens more times than it should because when an excuse (any excuse) to ride comes along I’m just WEAK !!! LOL Oh by the way, if you had stopped by Riders Hill with us instead of hurrying on your way back home today Jerry from CycleNation and his wife were there on their BMW’s. He’s always fun to talk with. Just an FYI, I didn’t get back until 4:30pm but I had a GREAT TIME!!!

If you are referring to the lights under my headlights they are the PIAA LP530 lights and I got the driving lights, they also have the same light with a “fog beam”. The following link is where I believe I bought mine and the reason I got them there is I hoped they might come with the required plug for the OEM wiring harness on the bike but they didn’t. I had to order the plug from easternbeaver.com.

http://www.yocracing.com/accessory_store/store/yoc_viewItem.asp?IdProduct=515398

You will also need the following PIAA under headlight mounting kit (or make your own)

http://www.yocracing.com/accessory_store/store/yoc_viewItem.asp?IdProduct=515400

Also, here’s a thread that talks all about them but don’t believe anything they say about the PIAA light wiring harness coming with a plug that simply plugs into the bikes OEM wiring harness. You’ll need to order a plug also. I can’t find a link for the plug at this time but I believe it’s mentioned in the following thread also.

http://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?topic=1579.0

Also, you mentioned you had a GPS on order. I believe I gave you my email address and if you still have it send me an email, I have some GPS info I can get to you. I’ll even send you the track from today.

Got to get back at playing catch up because some of my “friends” talked me into spending more time riding today than I should have!... LOL

Can’t wait for the next ride!!!

Hey ogre!

Sorry but you really did miss out on a great day to be riding Sunday. It couldn’t have been better weather for this time of year. Although I rarely ever know until the last minute I’m already scheming for my next ride this coming weekend. I’m sure there are others doing the same thing so keep checking in here and I’m sure you will catch up with someone for a ride soon.

Hope to meet up with you soon.

Anybody wanna go for a ride this weekend? ::001::
I'll be 2-up, which doesn't slow me down much on the pavement, but it does on the dirt. ::26::

I'll be at Road Atlanta all weekend doing the track thing :D Might go for a short ride the following Saturday but then I leave Sunday for Tulsa, OK for work and then as soon as I get back the girl friend and I are headed to the BRP for Labor Day weekend. So I am getting some riding in, just in more focused outings :) Oh yeah and the VIR and Barber the following 2 weekends :D

My primary track bike is an 07 GSXR 750. Back up is an 04 CBR 600RR. My girlfriend rides her SV 650S or my 600RR when she gets out on the track. That just depends on if we have room in the trailer for all 3 or if we have someone riding along with us and need the room for their bike.

Never done a track day, but often thought about it. I'd have to borrow my son's CBR 600 because the ST10 ain't no track bike, but I think he'd be okay with that. He has been wanting to do a track day also.

However, I don't need another expensive habit. I've recently started racing in hare scrambles and I think I'm hooked.

You would actually be surprised what we see on the track in the novice classes. I have a buddy that brought his Vstrom out to Little Tally earlier this year. He was probably one of the fastest novices out there and Little Tally is a small tight track. I will probably take my S10 out to coach the novices at some point. I will put more conventional street tires on before I do so, but I will be doing that anyway. I just don't see doing much off road so I don't need the trail type tires.

Yes it can be an expensive habit, but a day at the track can translate in to a better and safer street rider. I haven't done hare scrambles but have heard they are great fun.

Hare scrambles are a lot of fun and a hell of a lot less expensive ($35 per race), but you'd better be in shape. Going hard in the woods for about 2 hours is quite a workout. It keeps me young.

I'd really like to try a track day as well, but the Tenere is the only bike I have right now. If I add another, it would likely be a KLR650, so not any better...
I actually wouldn't mind using the Tenere on the track, but I'd be afraid I'd scratch it up. Not interested in becoming a track rider (not that it doesn't look like a helluva lot of fun), I just want to learn to ride on the street better. Most of the riding I've done is off-road, and that was many years ago.

Hey Bahill, does this bike look familiar?

Well, I’ll be darned! Who knows, he sure has lust for the S10 so I’d bet yeah. Although he’s also been drooling over the Stelvio and he, unlike me, has the mechanical skills to take care of the Stelvio. I’ll drop him an enote and try to find out what he’s up to and also try to get him to ride with us. Even two up he rides more YOUR pace. :)

I will say this for the record. If someone is in the market for a good ST1300 this would be the one to get. He is so anal with not only regular maintenance but preventative care of his bikes I’d be willing to bet this bike is better than new. As I told you before I love the ST1300 and I almost bought one before but at 6’-5 they are a little cramped for me, and today I’m still thrilled with my S10!!!

I’m headed back up to Riders Hill in the morning for coffee if it’s not raining. I hope to leave the north metro area around 6:30am and get a couple of hours ride in and then be at Riders Hill sometime between 9:00am and 9:30am for coffee. Maybe I’ll see some of y’all there.

Yep I’m sure there will be other S10 folks join in sometime and I have enjoyed meeting the ones that have showed up so far. We’ll keep posting here until things fall into place for others to get together for a ride.

I’m looking to do a Skyway run the next available Saturday that I can spend a whole day riding and the weather is fairly dry and not too hot so keep that thought in your mind. Depending on who goes and if we want to do some side trips up to Buck Bald, Bald River Falls, the Stewart Cabin or some of the forest service roads and/or how much we screw around should be somewhere at 350+ miles and back kind of late day/evening. I usually leave early (6:00am-6:30am) head up I575 to Blue Ridge then up to Cooperhill and 68 to Tellico Plains (usually breakfast in Tellico) then over the Skyway and back by way of Robbinsville, Andrews, Murphy, back to Blue Ridge and I575 back with side trips along the way. I haven’t been up there in a couple of months and I feel the need to go soon.

Is anyone here familiar with Smith Field Road / Forest Service Road 126 between Hwy 68 and River Road? Smith Field Road turns east off Hwy 68 about 7 1/2 miles south of Tellico Plains and then Forest Service Road 126 runs into River Road about a mile or so from the Green Cove Motel / Trailer Camp and about 8 miles from Bald River Falls. Should be about 14 miles from where Forest Service Road 126 intersects River Road back down to the Skyway.

I've done that road once. I don't remember much about it but we were hauling the mail.

Sitting at Riders Hill right now. Guess I'm a little late:)

Yep, only a few hours though... ;D

Is the Smith Field Road / Forest Service Road 126 something you'd take the S10 on?
