Me come over to the darkside??!? I've been Yamaha since birth. ::022:: I should be welcoming you, Honda/Ducati-boy! ::008::

I might ride up to NC this weekend if youre not wasting time on the track again... just waiting on my GPS mounts and Sena's to come in.

My weekend is pretty packed already. I am going to probably ride over to Barber Sunday morning to watch some AMA racing.

Hey Big Blu...

I'm sure you'll have no problem finding someone to show you some things when you're in N. GA. Just post here with your time frame and hopefully someone will step up at that time.

I'll question Anthony and/or David about the Motus dealership next time I'm at Riders Hill and if I hear anything more specific I'll let you know.
I don't think Anthony's back at work yet, he had a fall off a ladder while cleaning gutters at home several weeks ago and got banged up bad. I spoke with him two weeks ago and he's waiting for his legs to heel before he starts a rehab program.

Regards, Paul

Probably a long shot, i know. Just thought I'd put it out there in case anyone would like to ride with me.

On the weekend of July 21st I'm going to ride up to Mt Airy, NC (The town that inspired Mayberry on the Andy Griffith show and the boyhood home of Andy Griffith) on Saturday and stay for the night then come back on Sunday.

This is the quick mock up of the route i put together this morning. Theres a little BRP and a lot of curvy roads. There may be some forest service roads if i can work them in. The route is still evolving. http://goo.gl/maps/I1pz

As a fan of the show, this is a trip ive wanted to do for a long time. I plan to enjoy the ride up there and the sites of the town. If it sounds interesting, let me know.

EDIT: Dates changed to the weekend of 21st.

10 ER AY , you struck a cord. I'm a huge Andy Griffith fan! This looks like a great ride and I've never been up there before. Unfortunately I'm on Fam Vacation that week up in the mountains already. My wife tends to get bitchy when I leave them alone on vacation. Let me know if the dates change or anything.

You're the kind of rider i was looking for! A fellow fan. I really want to work it out so i can get my hair cut at Floyds barbershop (still operating in the last ride report i saw about it).

If i dont get any interest from my local forum - not likely, mostly young'uns - I'll push the dates back to the middle of July. I'm busy the weekend of the 13th so it would have to be after that.

10-4 - - I am a young'un, I'm only 47! Mid July may work. I do have some kids to think about but overnight aint too bad. Yeah, I had no idea Floyd's was real and still there. The weekend of the 21st and 28th might work. This sounds like a fun ride. Just to let you know the kind of rider I am. I do not take risk like passing double yellows (well not all the time). I avoid passing on curves. I'm pretty patient in traffic and like to enjoy the scenery. I strive to be a safe rider. I rode w/ a guy recently that was in his 50's and acted crazy once we got on the curves in the mountains. He was not a good match. I do like to stop at sights, click some pics of the ST and take it easy (to a point). You can look me up o Facebook if you like. Brian Jackson, Monroe GA.

I'm 34... maybe 35. I stopped caring.

My wilder days are long behind me. Im a decent rider, there fore i dont have to have a "who's got the longer pecker" contest every time the road gets curvy. Thats not to say i dont like to wind it up a little, but everything in moderation. Passing on double yellow isnt something i like to do, but sitting behind granny in her 1987 Cadillac El Dorado as she goes 25 mph up a mountain in 97 degree heat is something i like to do even less. If i get too froggy i dont get offended by getting called out on it.... riding with my 68 yr old former motorcycle cop father pointing out all my faults has broken me of getting offended easily. ::008::

I've done several LONG rides and I always find myself wishing i had stopped here or there to take a picture. I actually think it would be nice to have someone call my attention to the stuff like that before i leave it in the mirrors. I've got a Bluetooth Sena communicator so if you have anything like that, all the better.

We're on the same page Terry! I dont have a communicator. Does that work through your phone?

Its a Sena SMH10. It works over Bluetooth up to roughly 1000yds away for talking to other riders. But it also hooks to my cell phone, gps, and ipod via bluetooth. So i can talk to other riders, listen to some Nitty Gritty Dirt band, and get yelled at by my wife for being gone too long all at the same time. I just hooked it up over the weekend and I'm very impressed so far. The few people i've spoken to on the phone didnt even know i was riding.

Are you camping? May want to join you. I know lots of gravel up that way if you're passing through Rabun Co. Ga and Macon Co. NC. I was personally thinking about this ride on that week end.

"Howdy do to you and you. It's me, it's me, it's Ernest T.!"

You guys are killing me! I’m within a few years of Ron Howards age and both of y’all are way too young to share such nostalgic admiration for this old show. However, please do the ones of us that can’t go on this ride a favor and document it in photos along with your written observations. I’m sure I’m not the only one that will be most appreciative of you sharing your trip up to Mt Airy.

I can’t wait to catch up with you guys for a ride sometime!

"You ain't seen the las' of Ernest T. Bass!"

Im doing that one a little later in the year with a few friends. I've got a lot of family down in Albany so I'm going to work that and as many other offshoot trails into the ride when we go. Also, i was thinking about stretching it out on down to St Marks south of Tallahassee for a Grouper sandwich... best you'll ever have.

For Camping... That would be the best way to go. Right now i dont have a tent/sleeping bag but i need to buy one anyway as i plan on doing the TLH next summer. Let me get back to ya on that. Andy Griffiths child hood home is available as a hotel as another option.

Im thinking im gonna push the dates back to mid-July. Theres no interest on my other forum so it wouldnt hurt to give me more time to plan. If you want to get with me on planning since you know the dirt road off shoots, that'd be great.

Im bumping this up to the weekend of the 21st. Just seems like it'll be easier to plan for with a little more time and give a few other folks an opportunity to go.

If you contact RocketMoto through the ADVRider forum they have a group buy discount. I bought a pair and split it with a buddy so we only paid about $137 ea. Thats about a $20 savings for each of us over buying them individually.

Just something to consider.

Theres 2 "maybes" from Blokes forum. ( http://www.blokessportbike.com/showthread.php?t=60582 ) I know 1 of the guys really well, i rode to the Ice Fields in Canada and down the west coast with him and on another trip we went around lake erie and up to Maine. He's a good guy and a good rider.

I think I've ridden with the other guy before. Hes an older guy and seems pretty laid back.

I was doing some searching and the Mayberry Campground ( http://www.mayberrycampground.com/ ) is $20/night for a tent camping spot. It doesnt say how many tents you can put on a single spot.

Theres also the Mayberry Motor Inn ( www.mayberrymotorinn.com ) for those that dont want to camp. Looks like rates vary but it could be anywhere from $60 to $100 per night.

I told the other guys too, and i think i should make the point here... I'm going to visit the town as much as I'm going to enjoy the ride up there. Sunday i plan on seeing the sites in Mt. Airy and doing all the dumb touristy things. Afterwards I'm going to take a more expedited route home. Ill avoid interstates but just wanted everyone to be aware that the return journey may be a little boring. If some of you guys want to leave Sunday morning and take a scenic mountain route home, by all means, make it happen. If you want to hang with me and see the town, thats awesome too.

I wont mind poking around town man! If I get bored I can always cut out. The highway ride is only about 5 hours so as long as I'm home before dark Im good. Id rather stay at the Inn. Im not big on camping but for only one night its tough lugging the equipment. You alright w/ the Inn? Wonder if theres a tavern there cause Ill need a beer or two upon arrival. I dont have panniers yet so my hauling capacity is whatever I can strap to the back.
