I live in Alpharetta and planning to get a new dual sport bike. I have a Tiger 1050 now. Whatever I get I would like to hookup with you guys as you do my type of riding. I am trying to decide between a Super Tenere and a GS and have ridden both. I loved the ST except for the vibrations from 4500 up. There is all kinds of discussion about it on the forum, and I hope as local guys you could give me some input on this. Wally

I owned a 2006 GS and now own a 2012 Tenere. I gotta say, the Tenere has all of the things I loved about the GS with none of the drama. For me, dealing with BMW dealerships was the worst. Even if you have minor problems, your bike is gonna be there a week while it waits in line. Servicing the bike yourself is fairly easy but for big things it has to go to a dealership unless you're mechanically gifted.

I loved my GS, but it had a lot of little quirks. Plus, I got my Tenere nicely equipped for less than a bone stock GS. That was a huge deciding factor for me.

I wont mind poking around town man! If I get bored I can always cut out. The highway ride is only about 5 hours so as long as I'm home before dark Im good. Id rather stay at the Inn. Im not big on camping but for only one night its tough lugging the equipment. You alright w/ the Inn? Wonder if theres a tavern there cause Ill need a beer or two upon arrival. I dont have panniers yet so my hauling capacity is whatever I can strap to the back.
I've been wondering how many beers would fit in my panniers while still being able to pack the stuff i needed.

I'm on the fence about camping. While i think it would be fun, I also think it would be stinkin hot. Let me think about that one a bit.

I cant say. I'm new to sport biking. The Tiger looks like a cool bike either way. I don't have a problem w/ vibration. 4500 RPM's is moving pretty fast so I feel the wind more than anything. I don't have much street bike experience. Spent most my life on YZ's and RM's so the ST is smooth compared to those.

Welcome to the forum MudNut !!!

I too got back into riding about 11 years ago after a long absence. I’ve been through a few bikes until this one and I’m loving it.

It’s been a long week for me but there is about a 50/50 chance I’m riding early in the morning. If I can get up and get motivated in the morning I will leave a little before day break and ride for a few hours and end up at Riders Hill about 9:00am for coffee. After coffee and BS’ing for a while I’ll head back before it gets too hot. Short and sweet but that’s about all the time I have. Maybe I’ll see one of you at Riders Hill in the morning?

Well, I'm finally official. Picked up my Tenere yesterday at Mountain Motorsports. Here she is:

...280 miles and I've already scratched it. :'(

Got a little lazy with my body position.

I've been a member for a while. Joined to learn more about the bike. Traded my 2007 FJR with 86K+ miles for it, and I am not disappointed. I think the Tenere tops the Feejer in about every category except acceleration. Passing cagers was a little easier on the FJR.

Very nice! That one was the stable-mate of mine while they were in the store. My wife tried hard to get me to buy the black instead of the blue. I was really close to buying your bike instead of the one i own now.

I truly struggled with the decision between black and blue. I like them both. Suzuki/Yamaha of Dalton had a blue one and Mountain Motorsports had the black one. I decided on the black one because I saw a picture of one on this forum all dressed out with Jessies black luggage and loved the look. My Jessies will be here soon.

Hey Twisty, how about posting a photo of your bike when you get the Jesse luggage. I'd like to see them on the bike and I'm sure others would appreciate it also.

Thanks!

Will do. The bags should be here Monday, but they didn't have the topcase in stock. It should come a few days later.

Had a great ride with Tenere-Jack up to Mt.Airy. Due to a poor GPS operator (myself) we spend a lot of unplanned time on the interstate on the way back.

It was nice meeting you too. We got to Tellico Plains about 12:20, so we were a little late. Our friends had just gotten their food, so everything was cool. We proceeded to have a nice ride across the Cherohalla, then back. ::26:: I just love that road.

Thanks for the links. My farkle budget has been pummelled since purchasing the S10. I could have bought a GS for what I've got in that thing....but I'm glad I didn't.

Hit me up sometime if you want to go for a ride. ::001::

I’m going to make a coffee run up to Riders Hill tomorrow. Hope to be there between 9:00 and 9:30 and enjoy a rocking chair while drinking coffee and talking motorcycles for a while then head back because I will still have weekend chores to do.

Had a great ride last Saturday with a couple of other riders. We were headed north at 6:30 am and had rain for the first and last part of the ride. Took in about 20 miles of dirt roads and did Hwy 60 to 180 to 129 back down to Riders Hill and then home. The off and on showers kept the temps down and for this time of year just a great ride.

Posting a few photos from last Saturdays ride thinking it might wake up some north GA S10 riders and keep this thread alive.
