I've shopped at that Albertsons several times. Used to go to the Coffee Cup now and then, but the place down the street was better and less crowded. (Ed's, Jacks?, can't remember now.)
That would be Jack's Place, and I agree its much better, and usually less crowded.

Don't eat out much, was driving by a Panera Bread, and figured I would get a somewhat healthy lunch. Ordered my meal, and then the was handed a paper bag. First thought was, wow, quick. Looked at it, and the bag had my drink cup/top and straw. One way of handing out the cups.

I got something from a major convenience store chain about them no longer allowing personal cups at the soda fountains. "Please use our provided cups." I wonder if buffets here in the South will take a down turn because of this renewed grasp of potentially poor practices? (Buffets are huge here, every third gas station seems to have one. And not roller food, but full on grits, biscuits, greens, tenderloins, catfish, chicken, etc.)

went to walmart again after a weeks difference here in los angeles, ca. Man what a difference in what they have in stock. Looks like the small chain stores are not having an issue. Also saw 7 eleven not let you use cups in there fountains.

At this point, we are pretty much 'sheltering in place'. The wife is high risk and is more than a little afraid of this virus. I'd still be going out and getting things on my own if she wasn't so upset at the possibility of me bringing something back home because I got exposed during a trip to the store. All of you living with a spouse know how this goes.

The last couple of days we've been doing yard work in the back since the weather has been nice. (freaking carpenter bees are out mating in big numbers) When I did shopping a month ago to up our supply levels it was cold/wet and I wasn't thinking about yard work. Ran out of several items yesterday, so got online at Walmart and put together a list. Only about $40 of stuff. Delivery fee is $9.95 for a one time charge, or you can join the service and either pay $84/year up front or $12.9?/month. I opted for the one time fee. They do have a 15 day free trail period, but I didn't want a re-occurring monthly fee or the hassle of going back and canceling it right now. $30 minimum order.

Yesterday when I did this in the evening, there were no delivery times available for that day or the following day. They basically allow/require you to pick a one hour window for your delivery. I woke up around 1:30 am for bio needs, so popped online to check and they had the next day's delivery times available. I'm not sure what the normal range of times is, or if it varies from location to location, but the first time slot was 11-12 in the morning and I think it went into the evening, but don't remember how late. I ticked the box for 11-12 and then it prompted me for payment, did that and successfully placed the order. Supposed to be delivered Thus. Got email confirmation almost immediately.

This is my first time tying a delivery order like this. There is a box you can check that allows substitutions, which defaults to being checked. I left that selected. We'll see how that goes. Some interesting take aways from the ordering process. Anything in the store is available, but pharmacy prescriptions are still a separate deal. My order ran the gamut from 55 gal trash bags and hornet spray to green onions for the kitchen. If something is out of stock, it won't show it, or won't allow you to order it. One item on my list went out of stock when I tried to first place my order and it automatically removed it from my cart/list, (and it notifies you of this then). Later when I went back at 1:30 am to select a time, there was an option after selecting your time and payment info, to edit your list. I clicked on that and was able to add the item back to my list that had been removed the day before, as it had been re-stocked.

I already had a Walmart account from ordering things not stocked in the store and already had a debit card linked to my account, so that sped up the process a little. Painless, available to shop 24-7, but not instant gratification like going shopping and just picking up what you need. I'll report back with a brief note on how the delivery went and if I got what I ordered. Kroger in town also does deliveries, so may try that at some point since they sell a few items we like that Walmart does not.

Split off from the Arkansas Rally thread . . .

My ex works at the same place Dr. Fauci did and says that he is known as a straight shooter who loved to walk the floors and just stay in touch with people. So far, the MD/DC/VA area where we are has 185 known cases and even with the local resources of NIH and Johns Hopkins have had 2 deaths, which is about a 1% fatality rate. The world fatality rate is currently 3.8%. (https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/) The rate for the annual US flu losses is 0.1% which validates Dr. Fauci saying that this is about 10X the fatality rate of the regular flu. Based on that, I'm going to take his word that the risk of infection is 5X that of the regular flu. Think what you want but to me this pandemic is the real deal and sooner or later it will reach folks in small towns and other places where this currently seems overblown.

As for how long the medical aspect will affect us, my guess is at least well into the next Presidency, even with the initial human vaccine tests starting. Widespread vaccines will take most of a year to produce and get distributed if just because of how many chicken eggs it'll take. China seems to be just starting back into minimal production and that's taken them 2 1/2 months WITH an organized response.* This virus started three months ago, the first US patients were TWO MONTHS ago (same as Korea) and we have only just begun testing in small numbers so can't even identify and isolate those who are infected and not yet symptomatic. (WTF???) Monday, Trump and Fauci both said we probably will be in the heart of this from a medical aspect till at least July-August, so 4 MORE months to some kind of bottom sounds reasonable.

It'll take a longer time for the financial side of the recovery, which is separate from the medical side. Businesses are just starting to contract, companies are just starting to issue lay-off notices and it's too soon for any financial reporting to be in so clearly we haven't bottomed. This financial collapse looking for a trigger was foreseeable nearly a year ago and it could've been prevented if the current Congress took back control of the purse, rather than throwing aside the debt ceilings. The trillion dollars they are now talking about adding to the existing debt will just add to how long it'll take to recover from. A $25 trillion debt is not something that can be dismissed and with the downturn in productivity there won't be the income to pay creditors - us!

Financially and medically, we let our defenses down and are starting to pay for it.

* America was as responsible as anybody for letting AIDS get out of hand (origin was Africa), this flu and SARS happened to start in China, MERS was the Middle East, and Ebola started in Africa so it doesn't matter where patient zero this time happened to have been.

Felt a pretty good earthquake here today this morning. Was sitting at the table eating breakfast watching the SLC news. The screen went gray and at first I thought it was a weird commercial. Then you could hear the newscasters in the background telling people to get out of the building.

Then it started rocking here. I’ve never felt anything like that before. Pictures were swaying on the walls.

Pretty scary.

So, the "mortality rate" is not a one to one count between COVID-19, and the flu. That makes more sense. It's more of a "per capita". And, yeah, $1,000.00 for everybody? THAT's stupid. It won't make a long term difference to the individual, but is sure puts the country into a tail spin. Anybody read Executive Orders--Tom Clancy? Where Ebola was weaponized and sent to the US.... o_O I think the simple things will likely work best....wash, and don't mingle. Of course, that's easier said than done.

Yesterday we went to the supermarket, all the bread flour had gone, and usually there is always bread flour. After this is over I bet most of it will end up dumped as half the buyers will realise they don't know how to bake, or own a bread machine.;)

Flower, sugar, especially powdered sugar was disappearing on the shelves last time I went out. Had to go to a smaller grocery store to find powdered sugar. (my wife bakes) The crazy people are buying things they don't normally use. Reminds me of the LDS that stock years of supplies, but then throw out cases of food when it hits the expiration date. Sad that food banks can't/won't take it because it's "expired", even though it clearly says "Best by", not that it's somehow instantly spoiled on that date. When I worked for the parks dept of small cities in So UT we were always catching the LDS people illegally throwing cases of canned food in our dumpsters.

As a country, we suck at fiscal responsibility. I just hope it doesn't get to the point where they devalue the dollar. And I really wish they would crack down more on the scalpers. Some guy cleaned out an entire thermometer supply, filling a grocery cart, so he could re-sell them on ebay or where ever. I've seen single face masks priced at $20 on ebay and amazon. Assh***s are buying a case or package and selling individuals for more than the case price.

Yikes! 5.7. I've been in a 5 in Alaska, and it took me a while to figure out what was going on (it woke me up at 2:00 AM). 5.7 would definitely be felt.

The Government won't have a choice and will eventually have to devalue the dollar (print money), which will quickly diminish what our social security and pension payments can buy. It's the only way out of a 25 trillion dollar debt. Watch the price of gold because it is going down and imho has a way to go.

Governor Sisolak here in Nevada ordered a 30 day shutdown of all noon-essential businesses, including the casinos. SO the Las Vegas Strip is going dark...

So what is happening with the virus in Mexico? I cannot believe it is not there.

Las Vegas is done, we are all done pretty much. No way in the world to recover from this. Not the virus, the repair of the virus. 95% unemployment ahead. Lucky I'm already unemployed, so I'll have plenty of friends to hang out with from here on out.
