The National Federation of the Blind is lobbying congress to require artifical vehicle sounds on electric vehicles.

Isn't that something? Good post, DM. From one extreme to the other. I don't know what the answer is. I'm thinking of instead of requiring the entire rest of society to be more noisy, perhaps it would be prudent for the smaller segment to become more visible. It sounds like another one of those knee jerk reactions that politicians everywhere are so famous for.

They will probably, after making conventional vehicles quieter and electric vehicles noisier, end up requiring the visually impaired to become more visible.

Only in America...
Guess loud pipes can save a few lives. That said, I can hear all the Prius drivers going round town "BEEP, BEEP, VROOM, BEEP, BEEP, VROOM". Will there be laws against amplifying your fake exhaust sound?

I've been away for so long and you've all been so busy posting that I have no chance of reading everything like I used to. Anyway since I've been gone I notice that Two Brother Racing have released an end can for machines. Do we have a report them from here? I think it'll be the one I go for ... if my darling wife allows it.

Two brothers pipes have a reputation for being much louder than the competition. Have heard allegations of poor quality but never can tell based on online posts. I would go for the Leo or Arrow over a 2 Bros any day. Extremely happy with the Leo on my 450.

If you have a muffled or reasonably baffled system, ride sensibly where needed. Not a problem. I have a Muzzy system and PC USB on my FJR. At WOT full battle cry, it's loud. Reasonably ridden, it is nice and throaty. In all cases far quieter than a straight pipe. And I don't go WOT near other folks.

Been looking at Two Brothers. Right price, right size, right look and weight. Has a nice silencer insert that is easy in and out, and does not look to appreciably increase restriction. Plan to couple that with the Arrow head pipe, PCV and a grade A extra large grin.
Be forwarned. I got the 2 Bros for my Street Triple including the most restrictive baffles and these slip-ons are LOUD. I had to find an aluminum welder to weld and extra 6 inch aluminum pipe onto each baffle just to keep from going deaf. The carbon slip-ons look great though.

I had the Leo Vince titanium slip-ons on my FJR and was very satisfied. I'll probably go with the LV carbon slip-on for the S10.

Whoa ... I thought those 2B's were s'possed to be high quality. Just goes to show. Maybe I will have to rethink this whole exhaust thing.

The quality seems fine to me. It's just the decibel levels that surprised me. But, then again, 2 Bros never advertised that these were to be used on the road, even with the db killers.

After a few days riding the S10 with the new Leo Vince Carbon, today I did a TBS. I hadn't done it since adjusting the CO setting and installing the slip on, and was curious to see what the Harmonizer would show. The TBs were slightly off but nothing close to the 10-12 mBars showed when I did the first sync. It took a minor adjustment to get a "0" reading.

The test ride after the TBS was great. The engine is running as smoothly as ever and the bike idles in first gear at 8 MPH with no clutch. Power modulation in S mode is way better and now feels almost like T mode used to, except with more power and quicker response. The slight backfiring I used to get is now gone.

To recap, my S10 is running with a factory TBS, CO setting adjusted to +3 and the Leo Vince Cabon slip on. It feels so good that I am going to leave it as is and not mess with anything else for a while. This setup may not be ideal for everyone but if you live in high desert climate like we have in central NM you can't go wrong. It makes this great bike even better ;D

Pardon me for being a bit confused. You mention that your first TBS you were off by 10 mbars and your latest one it took only a minor adjustment. Then you sum it up by saying you are running at a factory TBS with +3 CO. What do you mean by factory TBS. I was interpreting factory TBS to mean what it came from the factory with.

Thanks for your help. I just changed to an Akra pipe and have yet to check the TBS, but want to do one and then experiment with the CO, so I am interested in your process when you changed your pipe.

Thanks.

What I meant is that when I did my first TBS I did not follow the airscrew adjustment procedure posted on the forum (3/4 CCW). I left the painted airscrew (right) at the factory setting and synced the other one, as described in the service manual. To my surprise, the TBs were off by 10-12 Mbars before I touched anything (delivery problem). The TBS made a huge difference and showed that, for my conditions, the factory recommended method works fine.

I hope this clarifies my post. Good luck with your Akra! I'm sure you will feel the same improvements I did with the LV.

Since we are at about the same elevation, I think this is what I need to set mine at as well. I've already adjusted the preset TB the 3/4ccw, but I think I can put it back close and then balance the other TB to it.

Need some warmer weather though!!

Rod,

I think this setup should work for you. You may want to consider a slip on as well. After having the LV for a few days it just feels like this is what the S10 should have had stock!

As for the weather, I agree! We have some snow in the forecast in ABQ and being originally from Brazil, I was not designed for cold :'(

PS: Contrary to popular belief, Albuquerque weather is nothing like Phoenix! It does get cold here and I've picked up my share of guests at the airport who were shocked at how cold it was!

I have considered a slip on and that is one reason why I have been following this thread. I just do NOT want a louder (okay, maybe minimally louder is okay) exhaust.

Know what you mean about ABQ weather. Even from the east side to "across the valley" or up on the plateau can be quite different. They are calling for some snow here again today, so I have been out cleaning leaves before it hits again.
