As much as I don't like the bulbous shape of the US spec blinkers, I really like the idea of increasing the size of the visual signature so that we might be better noticed by cagers.
I think Yamaha bought a boat-load of those ugly bulbous turn signals. ::007:: They've gone and mounted them on a bunch of 2012 bikes, including the 50th anniversary R1. ???

Terry, as others have mentioned here earlier, I got mine also from CycleGear. They are identical to the ones TouraTech is selling, but $60 for all 4 instead of $160 - yeah no shit!!!! Also as noted above, I got the ELFR1 and plugged right into the OEM plug where the old one was taken out.

Thanks Jeff,

Followed the thread but wasn't sure how finally put yours together. ELFR-1 seems to save some grief. Well worth the extra cost to dump the foolish load resisters.

Absolutely. ::008:: As others have said in this thread, it doesn't make any sense to install energy-saving LEDs and then go and install load resistors. ::010:: The ELFR-1 worked flawlessly for me. ::012::

I may have mentioned a couple times here and there that I was not impressed with the turn signals Mother Yamaha supplied on the North American Supers.
Right away I new I wanted to change them to LED and have them look unique, but most of the units I looked at seemed to be the same basic design ... sort of arrow shaped. So I was looking for something different.

Here's what I came up with:
Rather than tear-drop shaped plastic pieces to hold the front LEDs in place, I saw another shape in the fairing and used that. They are made from bead-blasted stainless. The pieces on the inside are tear-shaped and made of aluminum. The rear pieces are also stainless and tear-shaped to fit into the recession in the fender.
I can't remember where I found the lights, but they came from China and were cheap as borsch.

Mike

PS: I apologize for the dirty bike. ::)

I used the flasher listed above and didn't install any of the resistors. So far I've ridden 5000 miles and never had an issue with the signals.
I have located some Yamaha LED blinkers and already have the ELFR-1 relay. Does anyone know is the electrical disconnect of the old blinkers and re-connect of the new ones is straight forward or is there going to be any suprises such as splicing involved? Also are the resistors a separate install or do they need to be removed from the new blinkers a certian way?

Thanks for the help.

The resistors come with the Yamaha LED kit but are not hardwired to the LED signals so you can just omit them during install.

I cut the connectors off the stock signals and soldered them to the LED wires for the front signals. For the rear I used the connectors that came with the LED signals and spliced them in under the rear seat area.

Do the front LED signals continue to run as running lights?

No. The LEDs do not continue to run as running lites as they only come with a 2 wire setup. Staight blinkers as it should be. Got my ELFR-1 today and hopefully the flashers will now work properly. Its kind of an all day job switching out the flashers. Headlite has to come off etc but not hard just finikky. Well worth it though to get rid of those baseballs they call flashers in the US and Canada. The Yamaha LEDs are very bright compared to stock and really tucked in. ::001::

It took me a long while to fit the LEDs too. I like to look around and learn while I am digging around in there, and I take regular coffee breaks!

I am delighted with how bright they are. Loads better than the stock UK ones.

Not many more farkles left on the list now!

Had the LEDs all installed with the resisters and no luck. Intermitent flashing. So today I cut all the resisters off and resoldered, and installed the ELFR-1. Now they work like they should. In Canada the ELFR-1 can be purchased from Bayside in Vancouver. Its the only way to go. ::001::

I ordered and received the Custom LED electronic blinker flasher.. great service..

I lifted this pic from this forum and I need your help in determining which unit in the pic below is the flasher, is it the one to the left of the unit that has a red top?

It appears that the unit just to the left of the main fuse (the red top unit) is the fan relay. The turn signal relay should be one more over to the left.

The service manual shows it as #12 on the attached diagrams and has two wires, one is blue/red the other is brown/white.

Mingo,

Its the second one from the left of the red top. It has the number FE246BH on the side of it. You can trim the new relay to better fit the rubber holder. Works great!

Installing the Touratech LED turn signals - without the load resistors - and just to make sure, there's no polarity to be concerned with in the wiring with LED's?

The S10 has black / green on one side of the bike at the signals, and black / brown on the other side - and each of the Touratech turn signal wires are black / yellow, so I presume the black always goes with black when wiring these.

Thanks!

keep black to black, but without load resistors it won't work with standard flasher relay - use one resistor on each side
