Put the fuse in right after the 600 mile service. Felt it was 'twitchy' but figured I'd try it for a while. 4,100 miles later I pulled it out and the difference is quite noticeable. Coming of the line and changing from 1 to 2 to 3 is just plain ugly, and it spooked and died coming off idle once. I'll happily take the 'twitchy' and a little less mpg back. Just my 2c worth, but I really had kind of forgotten about it, so was surprised that I could tell the difference so readily.

I installed a switch so I can use it when I want on the street.
I need a rear shock for the weight I carry so Flash will have to go on hold.

This is why I'll be popping a fuse in. The 'falling on it's face' in 2nd gear I found immediately disconcerting coming from my sport bikes... A basically free mod to fix, AWESOME! Thanks for the thread guys, loved the dyno and AF maps, lots of great info.

My S10 felt incredibly fast.........super fast even, after previously riding riding my KLR650. ::025::
Haha, that's what I'm thinking. But, paging through these threads, I'm thinking that a proper reflash in in my future. Might as well make awesome feel even more awesome.

350€ ACD skid plate soon to shine on my snowflake.... I guess the reflash is on the hold again. Fuse will be just fine. This time I'll wire it on to the handlebar switch. I just might do the same for the ABS and TC.

DIFERENT FOR 2014

Check this our for the 2014. I was trying to do my MOD last night to see if any improvement also for the 2014.

Now we have 2 micro switchs, as I understand, from the shop manual, one is for the clutch and the other is for the cruise control or speed control system. I believe they are the same.

This are the micro switchs : red one is for the speed control unit and the other is the clutch.

The wire colors in the MSs change eventually to brown and green and white, as indicated in the electrical diagrams in the shop manual. There are some connections inside the black jacket that protects the cables on its run towards the electrical tray on the right side of the bike.

This is the inside of the whole unit :

WARNING: I damaged both micro switchs (MS) when re assembling the unit. It's because the small pivots of the MSs broke. When reassembling you have to press the button that activates both MSs, that is the pivot that get pressed or unpressed when releasing or pressing the clutch lever.

What I broke are those two little pivot with small blue gaskets. You can see them on the MSs on this pic:

I will report later on the MOD.

Well the double microswicht is a guess. Looking at the diagrams and reading from the shop manual it seems that the second micro switch is for the cruise control.

I was lucky and I found another type micro switchs and make a temporary fix while I get a new unit.

Nonetheless I tested with and without and I did not feel any difference......... To be continued...

This is the repaired switch:

I got two spade type micro switchs that fitted well on the slots for the original micro switchs. One of the micro switchs is normally open (clutch) , the other is normally close.

Ok well i have a red guarded two position switch in the middle of my handle bars mounted and figured that most of the time if not all the time i will have it "Shorted" but at least i'll will have the option to select normal operation of the clutch microswitch. I drew out a complex and detailed wiring diagram showing how the wiring will look but till then i will not jam some fuse or wire leaving the connector disconnected. Its a thing that the aviation electricians mate inside me hates. ::002:: But i will get an after picture and see how it feels with that extra 15HP. Thanks guys. ::003::

Technically, I didn't say it was. I asked a question, which you could have attempted to answer.

I was under the impression this mod would not be needed on a 2014 as Yamaha sorted the fuelling??

I did answer the question, even though you made a statement but just ended it with a pair of question marks.

"I was under the impression this mod would not be needed on a 2014 as Yamaha sorted the fuelling??"

"The CJM was never to address FUELING..."

Seems pretty straightforward.

I think it was more to get rid of the restriction and stumble. Mine was horrible until I threw in the jumper. Been happily riding it with the CJM ever since. I took it out when I rode over to have the headlight recall performed and I couldn't wait to put it back. For me it works perfect.

This has been a lengthy thread I have periodically followed. Has anyone experienced any damage to their bike from the on going use of this mod? The jury was out early on as to whether there could be any possible "side effects".

Mod has hurt nothing that has ever been reported. Nothing!

However, it has been documented that this mod exposes the bike to a condition that could (would) damage the motor.
I believe the stock neutral map has some bazaar timing advance (+21degrees?) at Wide-Open-100%-throttle in 5th & 6th gears. Or was it at 5000rpms in 5th & 6th gears?

Anyways, just note that if you use the mod, limit yourself to 95% throttle.
