Maybe that's why we hear about the rest of the world......"Harvey", forrest fire in Los Angeles, India, North Korea, Vuelta a' espane (cycling), and a little Formula 1 ???

All the best to you in the Houston area.

Uh almost forgot, and maybe a new hurricane, "Irma" heading for USA :'(

glad things are well in Denmark . Hurricanes happen, people choose to live in areas that hurricanes like to visit. its the risk one takes . if not Hurricanes , tornados , if not tornados, earth quakes, if not earth quakes, droughts.... get the drift, things happen in the natural world.... one can make a plan , don't have to be a prepper, but have a plan to get through the first few weeks of what ever has happened.... that has been my plan, 2 weeks worth of food etc.....

Who are the longhorns. ::013::

Thanks for the kind words Tennessee, AND the confirmation of the "No Noise Commitment" Glad to hear I'm not the only ostrich with his head in the sand. (Blissfully ignorant)

Hey wreckerchecker, good buddy, you'll be as pleasantly surprised as I to hear that the bikes in the barn were subjected to little more water than one of the 21 stream crossings we did on that one magnificent Harrison trail. So those toys are gonna be fine. Besides, all the ones I keep running and ride are insured anyways.

I had a couple of bikes not in the barn that likely took on water though. Currently not insured to ride either. But I'm not well versed on what my homeowners vs flood vs windstorm covers.
I got every kind of policy required and advised.

Good to hear about the barn. Obviously, still thinking about you and the kids up at the house.

Thanks Bob!

Well, the kids got into the property and house today. And my brother, the one who actually oversaw the building of "Brenda's house" all those years ago, also stopped by to evaluate the damage.

I consider it 90% great news. Water mark was at about 20". So although appliances are toasted, and about 45 electrical outlets need replacement, the house itself took the soaking well.
All the wood base, jambs, doors, and cabinets are solid wood. No warping or swelling. Saved many $thousands in claim. (he reminded me that I should now thank him for busting my $budget severely when we built originally. Told me he has already inspected 35 homes and all of them required substantial water-demolition)

His instructions are to not over react. Pop a line a few inches above the base. Another line about a foot up. Remove drywall between lines on exterior walls. Reach in and down and remove all water soaked insulation. He got the Air conditioning, the well, and septic up and running.

His main advice is patience patience patience. Dry the house out. Completely.

Then he has some chemical you come back with you spray it all down. (commercial mold inhibitor)

Finally, he has a crew that he guarantees can full float the wall repair and according to him, you'll never see it with an untrained naked eye.

So, all this and I still haven't even left the Colorado sweet-spot. Amazing.

I'll head homeward tomorrow anyways. With everyone on the property now feeling relieved, going home seems far more appealing. :)
Think I'll buy some really nice steaks and throw a big family feast upon arrival.

Harvey threw a pretty good punch, I gotta admit. But looks like we might of rolled with it.

Thanks for the offer TomatoBrother.

I wouldn't go near the place!...
Took your advice and did not drive south and west to Texas.

Glad you and yours are safe and dry.

I headed north and west to Springfield MO for a night. Then to Wichita KS for a night. Then to a long time friends home in Hutchinson KS where I have been for four days and counting. Enjoying catching up on many years apart. Gaining ground on feeling better. Thinking about visiting New Mexico, AZ-191, while avoiding fires and smoke.

Wish your family and Houston the best.

That's great news. With the damage news, your outlook, and how your kids were supporting the neighbors from lower ground, you guys are a model.

A cousin delivered his son to college in Galveston and filled both trucks with gas Saturday at under $2.20

the biggest problem in the state of Texas not directly affected by Harvey are the gas panicking part of the public who have no shame.

Harvey has come and done his worst, Texas will recover... most of the real damage was water wind second from all I have seen and heard .... Now the news, Irma is coming at the Americas as a category 5, 180 mph winds....

praying it will turn , seeing most reports that it will not turn till its done its worst..... may make Harvey look like a spring rain, and its being followed by Jose.... oh and there is a low in the Gulf about where Harvey formed that has a good chance of becoming tropical storm "K" ..... Our Florida friends should take care as this monster comes to visit..... a chance that it could blow through the Florida straights and head to Texas , don't even want to consider that..... Trying times are now . will no more by Saturday for sure...

The "cold" front that just came through today is supposed to go all the way to the coast. It will help keep Texas clear of the small storm. The front is also "supposed" to help turn Irma to the east. That will help keep Texas out of the crosshairs....but puts Florida right in the middle of the bulls eye. But, at least Irma isn't expected to park on top of anybody, like Harvey did. She's still gonna suck!

3 hurricanes at once and so far only Irma a threat..... seems Puerto Rico dodged the heaviest part of the storm ..... the weather guys are saying ( and this could change and change and change ) that Florida most likely the victim of Irma.....

Harvey and Irma are now history , jose may or may not be an issue. last few weeks have changed lives forever. if there is a lesson it may be that we should remember how small we really are. we new it was coming could not do a thing but watch and wait. life is precious and so very brief , seems but a moment ago I was in my 30s now I am a few months from 60... i've been happy i've shed my share of tears, material things come and go , maybe while we are here, we should for a moment , remember what's really important in our lives.... you have to determine that , for me its family and friends , probably for most of our forum members too. as time moves forward and the distractions that come with it , we should try and not lose focus..... and remember those who have lost everything..... for we are truly blessed to live in this country ..... no matter how many hurricanes come this way.

Been home a few days, but pretty busy, as you can expect. What a mess!!! I still can't believe there could be that much water in one place. Indescribable.

The good news is the weather is fantastic! It's like Harvey took the summer heat & humidity with him, wherever he dissolved to?

On top of that, today is even a reprieve from cleanup since I'm sitting in the waiting room, "waiting", for the birth of "Brenda Sunshine Lambert", my 3rd grandchild.

All is well with the world, as I choose to see it. :)
