Thanks for all the well wishes.

Truegrip, if Mark showed up without the cook, oooops, I mean Lisa, I'd have told him to go find his own mountain. ::013::

(Lisa & Brenda have always made camping a far less macho event by serving up fantastic grub)

Silverbullet, you do Texas proud sir. Love your outlook! Hope it's contagious.

And finally, Arkansas is always a good meet up idea in my book.

While he hasn't been active here in a long time, anybody heard from Dallara? I think he's in Corpus.

Snake and Silverbullet, glad to hear you're both safe and in good spirits.
You guys are teaching a valuable life lesson about grace and priorities...
My kids keep asking me when I will return. I tell them I'm in no hurry. Still have plenty of Harvey lemons left and I'm enjoying the lemonade.

Just checked his profile, he was last active August 21,solooks like he was at least browsing here recently. Maybe see if he has been active over on ADV?

Don't think they come tougher than Dallara. I'm betting he held his own.

on the way home from work today , the lines at gas stations , was a sad thing to see... there is no gas shortage , there is no damage to the refineries in corpus.... no reason for the lines except to create artificial shortages .... panic buying is all it is .... kind of ashamed to see it, no hurricane damage here, no flooding here , no reason for all of this here.... most people without a plan if bad things happen and bad things do happen... it could be worse it could be a food shortage , that would make a real panic .... the refineries will start up in a few days, but the shortage if there are any will be because the trucks can't deliver as fast as the panicked hoard the gas, that in a normal week they would not even think of buying till it was really needed... my routine is to get gas on Saturday mornings if needed.... my commute is not to long and I can go almost 10 work days with out refueling.... of course every ones needs vary , its the panic that's a problem .... it never benefits the panicked , causes trouble for all ..... the lesson if any is to have a plan of some type to give you a cushion in a hard time , you will make better choices when calm....

The news was showing the gas lines at an unknown station just last night, and there was already a tanker truck making a delivery. "This too shall pass".

I'm set to leave for home as soon as the kids report we can get to the property.
(Gonna miss these paradise temperatures)

As of 2 hours ago, still no access.
The good news is the house made the list at church for the "de-mucking volunteer crew".
That's pretty cool. My daughter described it as about 20 folks per crew and there's a few leaders in each crew with "skills".
Each crew completed 2 houses each today before sundown.

The pics are amazing. Huge rubbish piles.

As much as I feel for all those displaced in Texas, but the FED will be there to help..... at some point! I am somewhat angered by the lack of media coverage about the floods in India this past week where 16 million people are believed to be displaced and in one region alone 500 people have lost their lives, numbers run into 12-1500 total and still counting.
They (BBC) speak to one woman sitting under a tarp and she says that she has lost everything, including her buffalo and a goat, and although they did not translate the her last sentence, where she said she just wants to take her own life, I am overwhelmed at what constitutes a life changing and life ending event for someone in that part of the world. A buffalo and a goat. Help barely makes it to these people.

I lived through hurricane Andrew and saw the mess it made, as well as Opal, but help does come.

have not seen a thing on the news about India and what is happening there..... but we don't have news here , we have a media who have a political agenda that is above reporting the " news " ..... whether you have a mansion or a hut , if its gone you have lost every thing .... the world can be a very sad place.....

::026:: I've been recording different channel's "news". Around here, the only thing(s) being covered is "Harvey" and Ezekiel Elliot's suspension. I even commented to my wife that I wonder what's going on everywhere else since nothing else has been in the "news". I appreciate what I have on a daily basis.

I wouldn't switch places with those in India, nor many other places on this earth. As "devastating" as Harvey is\was, we are incredibly blessed folks losing cars, refrigerators, furniture, mattresses..........get my point? And most of us will be fetching eggs from our new refrigerator within a few months, at most.

75% of the 7 billion people on this earth don't have a refrigerator to lose! Think about that.

As for The News........I turned it off a few YEARS ago. Seriously. Haven't watched a news broadcast or read a newspaper or listened to talk-radio show. None!
I realize that sounds extreme. But for me it just happened.

The world got quieter, friendlier, and far more awesome to be an inhabitant of.

Full disclosure: Obviously no matter how much you isolate yourself from the NOISE of those sources, your friends and family will reveal whatever the BIG news is. But it's a far more benign version of the facts, regardless of the accuracy. ::013::

Been thinking about a certain barn of (probably) uninsured motorcycles and other motorized items which probably flooded and thought I'd throw out a thought for those arriving home to such a mess.

You're going to have bigger problems to take care of in the immediate future so tractors, lawnmowers, and toys and such will probably have to wait. However, if you can spare a couple of hours, drain the fluids and replace them as soon as possible, at least run the starter (assumes the engine won't start due to being under water), drain the fluids a second time, then refill and motor it again to distribute the new oil. Lift the tanks and seat for access and heavily spray everything with an anti-corrosion, such as one of the following:

ACF50 (Airplane oriented but may be in car stores)
Boeshield T9 (Airplane oriented but may be in car stores)
Corrosion-X

WD-40 is a water displacement (WD) formulation but the ones listed above are generations newer in what they can do so are far far better. Note that this and the three above may ruin the clutch plates, but that's a secondary concern.

If nothing else, hose the entire bike with any kind of oil to minimize rust.

This ought to provide the best chance to put off the real clean-up till you have more time to work on it.

Tip of the hat to you Mr. snakebitten. Your attitude is inspiring in keeping in mind what is really important. I'm glad that you and your family are safe and unharmed. Hug them close when you get to them, as you well know, how fleeting time can be with our loved ones.

I have attempted to unplug from all the noise (news) in the world as well. Most of it is crap anyway and designed to keep the population at odds with one another. Life is too short to dwell on the foolishness that goes on daily in the "mainsteam" . Got too loud for me.

Best wishes and peace to you and your family.

so whats happening in Denmark ? kids finger pulled out of dike ? there is no news reporting here.... some times some thing will pop up on the "net " ..... big beautiful skies here , cant find a gas station with gas , and the clean up has begun in the affected areas .... when I started this I stated some may find a blessing in this, mainly I believe that those who could go and help are being blessed beyond their efforts..... my stepson was stuck in the gulf on a cruise ship , took 4 extra days before he could get off the boat... took a plane ride from New Orleans to Dallas , rented a car to get back to Austin .... got home Thursday last, and on Friday yesterday , organized 2 utility trailer loads of relief supplies and he and some buddies drove them to Victoria Texas.... I think he is resting today.... as for Denmark I'm guessing its weather or terrorist causing the problem , neither is a good thing but one of them could be prevented .... maybe...

Who are the longhorns. ::013::

Thanks for the kind words Tennessee, AND the confirmation of the "No Noise Commitment" Glad to hear I'm not the only ostrich with his head in the sand. (Blissfully ignorant)

Hey wreckerchecker, good buddy, you'll be as pleasantly surprised as I to hear that the bikes in the barn were subjected to little more water than one of the 21 stream crossings we did on that one magnificent Harrison trail. So those toys are gonna be fine. Besides, all the ones I keep running and ride are insured anyways.

I had a couple of bikes not in the barn that likely took on water though. Currently not insured to ride either. But I'm not well versed on what my homeowners vs flood vs windstorm covers.
I got every kind of policy required and advised.
