Holan Nomada panniers for your Super Tenere...

I've ordered a set Holan panniers and racks to mount on my 15 ES directly from Holan as I'm based in Europe.
Holan are quite busy and it took roughly 2 months to get them delivered, but this is not the issue.

The issue I have is that the racks don't fit on my bike, even I ordered the 2014+ version of the racks.
After a few emails and photos exchange with them, I sent the racks back to them and they acknowledge the fact they did actually send the ones that were supposed to fit on my bike.

So, it appears they need to design a 3rd set of racks that fit on a ES which appears to be different than a standard 2014+ one.

The question I have for you guys is if there is anybody out there that have Holan racks on their 2014+ S10 and if it is a ES one or non ES one?

Hi Oliv - what was the issue and/or interference that caused it not to fit? I haven't seen that crop up before (Holan or otherwise) as Yamaha has remained nicely consistent with the subframe and luggage mounting points, but feel free to PM.

Thanks!

Pretty sure it's a rear grab handle spacer issue. 2014 ES has grab handles while the non-ES doesn't.

@rotaryracer: I'll post some photos later on today but basically the hole in the racks that is meant to be mounted on the footpeg isn't aligned with the one in the footpeg holder. On the vertical axis it is too low and on the horizontal axis it is too much away towards the wheel.
Should be more clear with the photos.

@TheHelios: it's not an issue with the grab handlers. There are some spacers provided with the racks to replace the grab handlers.

Another information: if you visit the Holan website, you'll notice that they have removed the S10 panniers and racks offer...

Weird. There were rack issues with many companies when the 2014 came out but those were almost always due to the grab handle spacers missing. I can't believe that they actually sent out a simply bad rack.

Here are some pics of the issue:

It's just way too far from opening up a foot peg hole...

Anybody here with an ES that lives in Poland or Germany near to Worclaw that would volunteer to go to Holan's office ?

Hi Oliv - thanks for the pictures. We've had instances where we've had to "encourage" racks into place (opening up the mounting holes, or breaking out the BFH) for some alignment issues, but that doesn't look like that's a solution here. I'd send the pictures along to Holan and include measurements of the distance from the rack mounting hole to the footpeg mounting point to give them a reference point for the discrepancy.

One other note - do you have a black steel reinforcement brace on the back of your passenger footpeg brackets? On USDM bikes, I've seen them coming as standard since 2013, but couldn't tell if your bike was equipped. I know that has caused about a 20mm difference in mounting on one of our other pannier systems - it's easily made up by a small spacer if needed. That said, that will potentially address the horizontal alignment issue, but unless the vertical alignment is right, it's a moot point.

Hope this helps...

I have already sent the pics to Holan and we had quite long email discussion on this issue.
They initially thought they would have swapped the racks between 2 orders (one for a 2010 S10, one for my 2015 S10) but it wasn't actually the case.
Then they asked me to return the frames so that they can check what type of frames they did ship to me and from what they said they did ship the ones that were supposed to be shipped.
They finally believe there are actually 3 kinds of S10 frames : 2010-2013, 2014 and 2014 ES and they are trying to get their hands on a ES but none is actually available from the Yamaha dealer in Worclaw.
This was roughly 2 weeks ago and since then I haven't got any news from them and they do not answer my emails anymore.
I already offered my assistance in taking in taking any measurement they would ask me to take but without luck... I'll try once again...

Rearding your black steel reinforcement brace on the back of the passenger footpeg brackets question, well I do not see any specific reinforcement stuff but as I don't know how it should looks like, I may be wrong.

I experienced the exact same problem when I received a rack for my +2014 non ES European model earlier this month (the pictures I send to Holan looks just like Oliv's).

I bought my rack and panniers from http://www.alburmoto.com/.
Olek who runs Alburmoto have been outstanding in trying to help me out with the problem.
Holan have had some problems sourcing a S10 from Yamaha Poland to find out what exactly the problem is.
To solve that problem we have decided that I'll take my +2014 to Holan in Poland next month, so they can use my bike to make a rack that fits.

- the +2014 fitting problem should be solved in little over 2 weeks time.

Hi Don, I got an email from Holan today telling me that a guy from Danemark with the same problem than mine would travel next month to Wroclaw to get Holan find what the issue is...

So you're that guy!

A big, big, Thank You....

Yep - good news.

Wednesday morning when I arrived at Holan I was greeted by the Tomek the owner.
He was very concerned about the problem and was pleased that I would lend them my bike to get it solved.

Tomek supervising the work:

When a solution was found and the work well under way, Tomek and his wife took me out for Brunch.
When we returned the work was almost done and soon I was on my way with panniers fitted. I believe that the solution was to use the rack for the older model, add some bigger spacers at the top mounting points and mount the rack outside (instead of inside) the passenger foot pegs. The result is a slightly wider setup (89,5 vs. 88 cm). I have done a couple of thousand kilometers with the panniers now (including a lot of lane splitting), and the setup works great.

That's very good to hear !

I got an email from Holan this morning telling me that they will send the corrected pannier rack ASAP. So I should soon be able to enjoy the pannier sitting in my garage for about 2 monthes now...

Im trying to fit a Holan rack on my 2915 ES. The set up is off an ES so i know it should fit. What i was wondering is where the spacers go. Am not sure what order they go have tried different set ups but all look out. Does the leg mount behind the footpeg or the front. Do the big spacers go before the rack etc. If anyone has a photo of one on an ES would be much obliged to see them. Cant see any fitting instructions on their website either. There are some photos but cant see anything in them. Thanks for any replies.

don't know if this is any help as mine is a 2013 non es but the four large spacers go where the grab handles used to be between the bike and the rack and the legs bolt to the inside of the rear footrests.

The 2015 ES rack mounts the same way as described by ovi.

Mount the rack in this order:

First the side pieces with the big spacers between the rack and the bike - only finger tighten the 10 mm bolts at this point. (remember a washer between the rack and the bolt head).
Then you finger tighten the 8 mm bolts (with washers - 2 per bolt) at the forward mounting point (inside the rear footrests).
Finally you mount the rear cross bar and finger tighten the 6 mm bolts (remember the 2 washers per bolt).

Now when everything is lined up, you tighten all bolts to spec in this order: 10 mm top bolts - 8 mm foot rest bolts - 6 mm cross bar bolts.

So I've got the black cases. I love them but...

I have a hard time getting stickers to adhere. Some stick and some don't. I tried cleaning the surface with denatured alcohol, and that seems to make it worse. Anybody got any thoughts before I waste anymore MotoGP souvenirs?
