Do you have any good options for mounting the top case? I have one of the original blank ones and I never really got anything figured out.
Hi Eric - we've got two good options! First, we just got a shipment of top case mounts from DS Bike that have a nice flat mounting surface and threaded inserts to install just about any flat-bottomed top case. I don't have them on the site just yet, but they'll probably come in right around $100-110. As soon as I get pics downloaded, I'll post them up in the Vendor forum!

Second option is to go with a BUMOT/Holan hybrid setup, which we've had quite a few customers opt to do. Holan top case, BUMOT case-side quick release mounting hardware, and a BUMOT top case mount. This gives you the best of both worlds - quick release on your Holan top case. The BUMOT top case mount is $99.99 and can be seen here, and the case-side quick release hardware (same stuff that comes standard on BUMOT top cases) is $44.99 and can be seen here.

Joel's setup (if you already have a top case mount) is a good one as well - I know of at least a few Holan cases bolted down to AltRider racks. We don't carry AltRider, but I think RideOnADV does and I'm sure they can get you setup.

Hope that helps...any other questions, please let me know.

Thanks!

Hey Jason, that BUMOT quick release setup looks pretty slick. I probably would've gone that way had it been an available option at the time I got mine, just so I'd have the option of removing my top case. As is now, I'm kinda stuck with it unless I want to take the time (5 bolts, not much time really, 15 min max) to remove. One thing that isn't clear from the pictures is how the two quick release pieces go together. Do they lock, making it hard for someone to walk up and walk away with your top case, or no? Just curious, I think that's a pretty good option to have if you can secure it properly.

Hi Joel - yeah, it's a pretty good setup. The aluminum stopper with the threaded section coming out of it goes outside the case, with the larger aluminum knob inside to snug things down. You slide the case forward into the opening in the back of the mounting plate and spin the knob inside to draw the lower aluminum stopper up tight against the plate. When the case is locked, you can't access the inside aluminum knob to loosen it, and you can't easily grip or get leverage on the lower stopper. As with most quick release setups (and/or pannier locks in general), a determined thief can probably get to it if they bring tools and have time to spare...but they typically would prefer a quick crime of opportunity versus hard work in public. :)

Hope that helps!

Thanks....

The pictures in this thread are of the standard/aluminum finish. Here are some shots of the optional powdercoated black and gray cases. You can also opt for powdercoated lids only with natural/aluminum panniers which is a new option I don't have on my site just yet.

Any questions, please let me know.

Thanks!

Hi Jason,

I am very interested in the grey panniers, either 31L or 38L. What would the price be on either size (including locks and rack) at this point. Has the decline of the € had an effect on US prices?

Thanks!

Hi Chris - thanks for your interest! I'm down to one set left in stock with the standard black powdercoated racks (mild steel) and either 31L black panniers or 38L gray panniers. The gray shown in the images above is the older "glossy" style; the current gray is more of a matte finish and can be seen below (against a matte gray Tenere):

Pricing for the systems we have in stock would be $1,139.99 for the 31L system in black powdercoat, or $1,154.99 for the 38L in gray powdercoat. Locks are optional on Holan systems, and a 4-pack would run you $34.99, or $44.99 for a 6-pack if you think you might add a top case in the future.

Unfortunately, the slight dip in the Euro against the USD has been more than absorbed by other cost increases we've seen from 2014 to 2015 - international freight, domestic "last mile" transport, UPS's recent dimensional weight cost increases, etc. The good news is that Holan (and BUMOT) still compare very favorably pricewise to other better known brands, coming in anywhere between $200-$900 less. ::008::

We are seeing pre-season orders ramp up dramatically, so for those that are looking at Holan panniers for the 2015 riding season, I'd strongly recommend pulling the trigger sooner than later. If we don't have the exact combo you're looking for in stock (and with 45 possible permutations per bike, that's a stretch!), our average lead time is running about 71 days from factory order date. Our next order is going in on or about January 30th, so any orders placed then would be expected in early to mid April. Ideally we'll see them sooner and we ship within 2-3 days of receipt from Poland, but want to set the right expectation. They are great panniers, but it does take us a little longer timeframe to get them for you.

Thanks!

Thanks for the speedy reply! So, this would be for my 2015 S10 ES. When I put an order in do I pay in full or pay a deposit? I would most likely go for the grey color - very nice. One thing that is very important to me is that the panniers are not wider than the handlebars. Would the 38L cases still accomplish that or would I need to go with 31L size?

Thanks!

Hi Chris - the 38L panniers will nicely fit within the stock bar width. Holan really fits the cases tightly to the bike to minimize overall width so you don't need to drop down to the 31L.

If you ordered the system we have in stock (mild steel racks PC'd black with 38L gray panniers), it would ship immediately. If you'd like to pre-order a system with different specs, it's no problem to do so but it will take a bit to arrive from Poland. The system does charge your card in full at the time of order and we reserve a system in your name. If something arrives sooner that we ordered for inventory but matches your spec, we'll ship that to you immediately (pre-orders get first dibs) and take the system we ordered for you into inventory when it arrives.

Any other questions, please let me know.

Thanks!

Jason, I just picked up my 2015 ES and am considering the Holan setup, with the 45L top box. What is your stock looking like at the moment?

Thanks!

Still loving my Holan top box. I use it off-road and for daily commutes including one just yesterday where I got caught in a nasty downpour. Everything inside stayed nice and dry. One thing to note. If you plan on using these off-road, make sure you by locks and use them. I forgot to lock my top box and the lid came flapping open. No biggie, I caught it before anything fell out, just something to keep in mind. The box and latches are really well built and I don't regret my purchase one bit.

Hi proffsionl - thanks for your interest! Unfortunately, we are currently out of stock and the timeframe to receive from Poland has increased significantly. Feel free to call me at the shop on Monday - (585) 310-ADVM - and I'd be happy to talk through options.

Thanks!

I have the Holan Nomada Pro 45L system that came on my 2012 when I bought it.

I'm starting to have impure thoughts about a 14 or 15, will the system move to the newer model?

Hi CurtC - sorry for the delay in responding. The Holan system will move over without any issue to the new bike, and fits all 2012+ Super Teneres, both ES-equipped and non-ES.

Thanks!

Hello Jason.

I have a few questions.

1. I'm seriously considering buying 2 x 31L Nomada Pro II panniers for my S10 - besides the quality of Holan's products and that the panniers look good I really like that they are so narrow when mounted.
When I see pictures of the panniers it puzzles me how both sides can be of the same size..? Isn't the left one with the cutout for the exhaust smaller than the other. Is there something I've missed?

2. Do you by any chance pictures of a S10 with the 31L panniers mounted?

Cheers

Tonny

Hi Tonny - as you're in Europe, I'd recommend you reach out to Holan directly at holan@holan.pl - they can definitely help you get squared away. To answer your questions directly:

1 - Holan pannier measurements are "gross" versus "net" - the exhaust-side case loses between 4-6L of capacity due to the exhaust cut, so net is roughly a 31L (non-cut) and about 25-26L.

2 - Unfortunately, I don't have any with the 31L cases mounted up. The 38L cases will fit within the stock handlebar width, so they've been the more popular "small" size as there's no real downside to the extra capacity.

Thanks!

Jason

Thank you for the quick reply Jason.

As lane splitting/filtering is second nature to me when traveling around Europe on my bike, I prefer the 31L to the 38L cases to keep the bike as narrow/maneuverable as possible - it won't help me that the handle bars on the S10 are high enough to pass above the mirrors of most cars here in Europe if my panniers subsequently rips the mirrors off ::26::
