Hi,
I'm Tim and I live in the UK and have been an S10 fan since watching Stephane Peterhansel stuff everyone silly in the Paris/Dakar. I currently own and ride daily a 1990 XTZ750 and have recently had the good fortune to test ride the new S10 and will be buying one in the very near future. I'm 51 years young and have been looking to purchase a new Adventure bike and I had a shorltist of 3, the KTM 990 Adventure R, the BMW GSA and the new S10. The BMW was dismissed very easily as I'm mentally too young to be a BMW rider and they have reliability issues. The KTM is a seriously quick and fun hooligan machine but they aren't without their problems either (snatchy throttle, poor electrics, crap battery etc. etc.) and the wife didn't like it and thought I looked silly on it (I'm a 6'3" ex rugby player of very big build) she did however like the new S10 and thought it looked about the right size for a big bloke like me.
I borrowed a 2010 first edition from my local dealer last weekend and despite bloody awful weather took the beast for a thorough shakedown on a mixture of fast A roads and smaller twisty B roads ( I live in Devon and we have some of the best twisties in the country with stunning sea views) and my opinion at the end of the ride was what a great bike and I need one of these in my garage.
Hope to get to know more of you in time, I'm already a keen active member on both the Super-tenere.net and carpe TDM forums
