Re: Melted Tenere

It happened to me also. I noticed it when I was washing the bike. Right between the headlights though on that concave part in the middle of the headlight bezel. Unfortunately, I had a Calsci screen for a while and then switched to the V-stream so I'm not entirely sure which screen was the culprit. I guess I should wash the bike more often! :)

Re: Melted Tenere

Not sure but maybe try painting the bottom 1/3 of the windscrene flat black on the inside. It'll look shiny on the outside. ::001::

Re: Melted Tenere

Never had this happen on any of my bikes, but I think I will get a nice towel to put over my dash area when parked. We don't have a lot of trees in Oklahoma.

Re: Melted Tenere

I had the same problem last month, melted bad. I could not figure out how it happened. I would never have thought the windshield would be the cause.

$4.50 cents to replace.

Mystery solved...thanks

This has been reported on most motorcycles including BMW, Triumph, Ducati, Honda, Yamaha, etc . . . . Now you know why riders through their jackets over their windshields.

Your big Wing Clubs make a big deal out of putting t-shirts with their club name over their shields.

Re: Melted Tenere

I had this happen to my FZ1 also with a dark tinted Zero Gravity Double Bubble shield. It would melt the dash when parked facing East in the late afternoon. The back of the shield would collect the light and focus it in a concentrated line on the dash above the instrument cluster.

Re: Melted Tenere

Alternative, affordable (cheap) and easy enough solution for those contemplating painting or putting something to cover the dash, is having some adhesive vinyl applied by a signwriter or some tinted film from a automotive window tint shop to the lower section of the bikes wind screen. Many a signwriter shop and automotive window tint shops have offcuts that they usually throw away so it can be possible to pick these off cuts up for little or no money. One could also opt for a suitably designed/styled wrap for a bit more moolah, should one want to play with some aesthetics.
Applying either is pretty easy, though for a few more coins either tradesman/tech might apply the material without much fuss.

I'd hesitate about putting a jacket or set of gloves on the dash in direct sunlight, if planning to use the item to ride with afterwards, just as a precautionary measure given the potential for a 1st-2nd degree burn to any exposed skin (thinking gloves in this scenario).

Has anyone every applied auto window tint to the plastic windscreens?
Have applied tint film to a lower section of one of my two Suzuki Burgman 650 Exec maxi scooters adjustable wind screens. Also applied window tint film to selected areas on the dash of a Jetmax maxi scoot as the dash/idiot lights were/are too bright for night riding (too much glare) - was a much easier solution than disassembly to swap out the dash light bulbs IMO.
Haven't applied film to my XT1200Z/S10 after market screen as it is already tinted.

She be melting

Rode my new Super T to work for the first time today. Went out at lunch to show some of the guys and found what appears to be some melt marks behind the windscreen (VStream Sport Touring). I've read about it happening but was surprised none the less.

Re: She be melting

I would get you a towel to throw up there when you are parked outside. Or even a cover.... That's what I do...

Re: She be melting

Damn!
I recall certain models of windshields supposedly doing this on Vstrom's - parking in a different direction or location seemed to be the most often used solution for most people.
