A strange thing happened yesterday. I rolled the Tenere out of the garage onto the driveway while I got all else ready for a ride. I happened to notice that the angle of the windshield with respect to the sun was focusing [magnifying] the sun onto the piece of plastic in front of the instrument cluster. Yes, indeed, it was melting the plastic!!

I have the Madstad adjustable windshield mount and it was in the full upright position, slightly forward. I'm not sure if the stock mount would do the same thing but it's something to watch out for.

Re: Melted Tenere

This was an issue w/ST1300 stock shield as well, many got a t-shirt to put over their shields when parked.

Melted Tenere

This has also happened on 800gs and 1200gs melting or deforming the plastic speedo or odo lens to the point the needle is no longer free to work.

Best solution is to throw a small towel in the cockpit when parked in direct sun. I know this isn't always practical.

In G.W.R.R.A we would have a cover with our name and charter on it. Still have mine but it would be way too big.It' black and made for the slower models of the Tenere. ;D

We had a safety article that described a copilot that had rested a water bottle on the side widow sill. It started smoldering his pants.

And, the stuffed animals on the back seat would watch out for your engraved, pinstriped windshield! I once looked at a nice 1988 Honda GL1500 for sale but was put off by the personalized, engraved windshield.

The Givi windsheild warns of this.
Since we are generally a male population, I doubt reading the instructions through and through comes into play very often... :))
