Personally I don't mind waiting either, weather is rubbish and gives me more time to save some extra cash.

::) Easy for you to say. If I only had to wait until April, like you, I wouldn't mind too much either.

That one or even two month delay is nothing if it means the difference between getting a XT1200Z/A1 vs XT1200Z/A3. There are often little fixes that go into a model that are never touted as a redesign, just an quiet update. Don't know for sure that will happen, but if the delay is to fix some little issue then it's probably worthwhile. Just speculating.

99% of the folks here have been waiting longer than I have. So, I have no place to say anything.

I was hoping to get the bike for an end-of-July trip but I didn't plan on getting rid of the ST1300 so I have an alternative.

I agree, sux, but that will give ya more time to save up and put more $$ down..

If they had said July when I went in to order I would have laughed and went somwhere else.

No doubt Yamaha knew this, and that is why they said May. Yamaha knew that by saying July they would lose a bunch of pre-orders.

They knew perfectly well what saying "delivery begins in May" would end up meaning to people. It is a technicality that they used to their advantage.

I understand folks not being happy with the apparent change in delivery dates. I ordered on Sept 2nd and hope that the S10 is here in time for a trip to Nova Scotia in August. But having waited since September, another month isn't going to make me jump ship. Keep the faith fellas, it will be worth the wait!
I have been waiting a year already. They introduced the bike to the rest of the world in Feb, '10 and shortly after that I was one of several who called Yamaha USA and asked them to bring them here, even if they had to do a PDP to cover their bets. I am down to about 3 months now, so that is progress.

In the meantime, I'll be waitin' right here.

No rush here either. My salesman, mentioned day one that it may end up being July, August, never know. I am not really waiting, I have a nice ride which most likely I will have to sell when it gets here. No rush for sure, but bring it when you get em ready!

Well, bummer. :( I just saw this so I haven't had a chance to check with my dealer.

It would be really nice if I could have the bike broken in, farkled and sorted in time for the August trip, but if I don't at least I still have the ST1300.

I shall, as usual, try to emulate the Zen of Fred O0

Hey guys!

Ask yourself why this bike is coming to the USA in the first place? US!

So what would be the answer to getting Yamaha in gear to make this thing start in may as we were told? [size=18pt]us!

This is not a good thing for Yamaha or our dealers.

They will lose customers and hurt our dealers.

Contact Yamaha, and your dealer and have them contact Yamaha.

Lets get this thing rolling and put a fire under Yamaha's AS*#!

Yeah, I spoke with my dealer today and asked him about this. I was originally told late May, early June. Now it's more likely late July, early August. That's a big difference, especially up north. I start thinking about putting my bike away by late August. Our riding season is very short, so the earlier the better. If it doesn't get here before August, might as well wait until next year to buy it.

I'm thinking a big outfit like Yamaha should be able to be a little more specific. I'm considering holding my place in line and requesting the bike for next year if it will indeed show up in May or June. Not too cool. I'll have to think about this one. RR

Remember guys, this is an early release 2012 model, so if it gets on your hands only slightly sooner than the rest of the 2012 Yamaha's make it here, you're ahead of the game.

I'm waiting till next year. That way, maybe I can get a test ride or even sit on one first. Glad I didn't sell my bike!

I have called, and tomorrow I will be going in for a face to face. I don't think it will do any good, but you never know.
I had the dealer talk to Yamaha about the Insurance classification as a performance bike and that has not helped as the
classification has not changed.

  I will have to look into this. I had not looked into insurance yet. Just assumed it would be close to what a GS is. A "performance" bike? What company classified it liek this?

I have not seen the bike on any online quote systems yet.

If the insurance for this bike is like a sport bike I will cancel my order no question

Ouch!! I just saw this thread... ??? Put my VStrom on the market and it sold quite a bit faster than I expected... Late delivery is going to put a halt on a planned June trip. :(

I guess I could pull the KLR out of moth balls and get it rolling again.... A trip on that old girl would make me VERY appreciative of the S10.

Still, I would have preferred to have been told "May to Possibly July" to begin with. Would have made it a bit more palatable....

Foremost as a performance bike, and Geico as a sport bike..

I saw a post that Progressive was looking at it as an adventure bike like the KLR. It should be no different than a GS only better! :)

I saw that post, too. The only problem is that the quote from Progressive was from a general description of the bike. Once a VIN is used, the Yamaha designation as a sport bike will be what decides the actual rates. I think it was FredZ or Koinz that posted that, but I can't remember what thread it was in.

I don't remember posting about the st10 insurance classification, but my vstrom was considered a sport bike. Insurance was more on that than my BMW. Go figure.

Is it really the manufacturer that determines the classification or the insurance companies?

Vstrom a sport bike classification. I had the same bike and used Aegis insurance and it was classified as an adventure touring bike. So my insurance was very reasonable.

It was from Fredz43 from the thread "is insurance cheaper on a dual sport??" here is a paste of what he posted:

Recently I did an online quote request for Progressive Insurance. It didn't ask for the model number and since I didn't have a VIN, I had to choose what category it would be in. I chose dual prupose bike, with 1200 cc engine. It came back with a very low price, under $200 per year. I got an email response and I asked for assurances that this new 1200 dual purpose bike would be that low and was told it was. At this point I will attempt to do more shopping and then when I have a VIN I can either send that to Foremost while I do some shopping for better rates, or may have time to secure a better rate thru another company, including submitting that VIN to Progressive. Your dealer will have your VIN when he gets notice of shipment.
