Not encouraging given the fact I just ordered mine yesterday

Come on Yamaha, just let dealers put them on the floor already! If they keep this special order stuff up, by the time I actually get to see/ride one, I'll be looking at next year.

You think they're sitting in a warehouse somewhere? I'd bet that production won't even start for another 2-3 months.

You got any more good news LostViking? That STINKS!!!! I would think if that is true, and the word gets out ,that no one else would even order one now. Who would want to wait til Sept.
I think I would lose interest real quick. And find anouther ride. Come on Yamaha get your act together.

What I mean is for them to start sending stock once it's built, rather than only bikes that have a home. Even if the general public can find a demo to ride, they have to wait months after that to get their bike. Put them right on the floor and I can ride away that day. ;)

I hope they make delivery in May! My V Strom is all but sold and I've got a big trip planned for mid June. I can take the DR, but it's not exactly what I had in mind for laying down 3K miles on a one week trip. It can be done, but hopefully not by me!

May be just reps trying to get folks to order sooner rather than wait to the last minute. I hope.

Went through the same thing with my FJR in '06. Was indeed Aug. First season was a little short...fun, but short.

That's right. I learned a big lesson when I went to buy my last bike that is making me hold back until I can physically kick the tires.

What I learned is that you truly don't know if a bike is right for you until you've gone a few miles on it. Specifically, I was soooooo convinced that the R1200GS was my next bike, that when I finally took a ride at the dealer I walked away confused and disappointed and glad I took that test ride. I'll never tell anybody not to order sight unseen, everybody has their own prerogatives, but for me I have to see and ride it first.

Now with that said I'm excited as hell to get on this thing, but I'm conservative enough to wait it out. The time will come.

at least you still have a bike to ride. I sold mine almost two months ago. Geez!!! It was alright for the move into new house, x-mas, and the baby thing. I just accepted a new job which requires me to drive to an office everyday instead of being home, so I now want a bike badly.

It's never a bad idea to have a test ride before buying a bike, but I wonder sometimes how much a 30-min test ride tells you about how much you'll like a bike after owning it a week, or a month, or a year. Or how comfortable it will be 9 hours into a 11 hour riding day. Or how it will perform on a rutted logging road 60 miles from the nearest town.

I never cared much for BMW twins in several short test rides until I was forced by circumstances to endure a week with a rented one in Europe. And by the end of the week, I was convinced that my R1150GS was the best bike I'd ever ridden in my life.

I can honestly say, I have never really regretted buying any of my bikes over the years......... Well, maybe there were a few that were close. I bought a new '69 Triumph Daytona that the shop had more than I did the first 6 months of ownership. ;)

I don't feel for Venture. He has one of the best all rounders out there, he can wait. ;)

We need an insider at Yamaha to tell us the real story. Are they only able to pump one or two a day out ? How many can they really produce in a day? Is the demand so great all over the world that they are working overtime now? I would like to know more about it. All I really know is, I WANT MY BIKE!!!!

IL, the land of straight, flat, boring roads
When my Bultacos were made back in the 60's and 70's they were hand made and numbers of each model per day were fairly low and they could make whatever models they chose on a particular day or week. All they had to do was make sure the parts were on hand and assign a worker or two to assemble some. In any modern production facility, such as for motorcycles, they can produce mass quantities per day. However, they cannot turn the production line off and switch to another model in an instant. It takes setup time as they get ready to produce different models, scheduling of parts delivery, etc and once they get going they crank them out until that production run is complete. There may be one production run for a model each year or there may be several, but they are planned and scheduled way in advance, just as any large industrial operation is. There is a good chance that the USA models have not even been made yet and when they are, we will start seeing shipments arriving. When Yamaha targeted May 2011 delivery for the first USA S10 units they scheduled their production line, their shipping lines, etc in order to meet that target. Believe it or not, they have a few other models to produce and we have to wait until ours fit into their schedule.

i had heard from one mouth away from the area rep they were probably going to do build lots of 50, same with shipping them into the states (warehouses). The rep did tell me directly, Long Beach port gets some to be filtered into the warehouses for the SW like Vegas, LA or wherever they are. Some bikes will be shipped here into the Port of Seattle since there is a warehouse in Kent, WA for the pacific NW distribution. Others heading east will be put onto trains or trucks and headed your way.
