AlsoRan, here is another pic from the 2014 XTZ12EE Service Guide that was sent to dealers (not the service manual) It shows a damper and cover that were eliminated. Do you recognize these? Did you remove anything like this, or just install the new basket?
Thanks.
Does this mean that the 12's and 13's will be double damped and the 14's single damped? :D :D :))

AlsoRan, if your dealer is unfamiliar with this latest Service Guide, tell him that it has been posted to YDS.
I went to the dealer today and looked at the YDS. It shows a different depiction of the 2014 w/o the damper and the 2013 assembly with damper. No where does it show any additional components that would have an impact on the clutch basket. It seems it's only related to the cover. Also I remember there is a similar setup in the right side where there is a clutch cover damper. This does not directly tie in as well. From the looks of it I can't see a problem with leaving these intact with the 2014 basket. I may take the cover off sometime just to get a visual.

Yes! No wonder I have the smoothest running Super Tenere in the world!

I think all the 2014 owners should quickly order the 2012-13 covers with the damper assembly. :D

ordered 6/19...local Yamaha dealer told me yesterday my order has been changed from back order to shipped. ETA was for 8/22, expected delivery by mid week so time wise is on schedule. Price has not changed, $34.31.
My local dealer was wrong...the back order was removed but it was not for shipping, it was to update the new ETA. The "new" ETA is now 9/22. Oh well, the waiting game continues.

Just changed out the clutch basket and changed over to Mitac E 07 tires. Vibe issue is gone! Anything left is engine and tire related. Definitely happy with the results.

Ridden 200 miles with new clutch basket and it's a huge improvement. I had the dealer install it along with some other maintenance. The only issue is the clutch is slipping when under heavy load. Something it never did before. Notified the dealer who said they would take care of it. Any ideas why this should happen. I don't think the new clutch basket has anything to do with it.

I agree the basket itself should not cause that.

Were new drive or friction plates installed?

I know there is a specific sequence the new plates go in and one friction plate is different.

Original plates were used. It only slips under real heavy load. Like getting on the highway with a small gap opportunity ::013:: Or when I just want to hammer the crap out of the bike. ::26::

Are the plates clocked on the marks? Are one or more backwards? They look like they are unidirectional but they arnt. When you pull the clutch sometimes one or more plates stick and then can fall. The mechanic must pay attention to make sure they are reinstalled correctly.
Just a thought ..................

I didn't notice a different plate when I replaced mine, however it could be the one that's held on to the hub with a clip. There's no need to remove it when replacing the basket. All the other friction disks are the same.

This really only applies if someone were to drop a few plates because they didn't notice them stuck together... What im referencing is in my service book on page 5-63 & 5-64 step 5-6. The plates must be lined up correctly with the marks on the plate(s) and basket.. Also if they fall to the floor and are picked up they must be aiming "out" the clocked correctly and not put back in backwards. Both sides look the same other than the alignment 'mark'.... :)

probably not his issue, but this will cause the issue...

Did you notice any difference in feel at the clutch lever when you got the bike back? More distance to the point of engagement?

The clutch lever felt the same. Since the dealer will be correcting this I won't have access to watching the work being done. I've nicely said I want the clutch totally broken down, inspected and fully repsired. Replacing anything that might have been damaged. I'm hoping for the best.

I was just notified by CPN that my basket has shipped. I already have the clutch tool, gasket and hub nut.

Yep - I've personally heard of 6 from folks that had come and shipped out today. There's some crazy accounting going on at Yamaha to let the gift horse keep on giving, but I'm not complaining! ::022::
