Hi Miller, Bruce, you have a package coming.

This message was sent to you at the request of Babbitts Sports Center to notify you that the shipment information below has been transmitted to UPS.

Scheduled Delivery Date: Thursday, 09/11/2014

::012::
Me too, Babbitts shipped today and UPS says delivery on 9/11. I called yesterday and they had just gotten the order in from Yamaha. $25 and change, plus shipping. I'm pretty happy they stuck to the low price. I ordered June 30th, while in Alaska on the road. Guess I checked the forum just in time! Hadn't gone there for a couple of weeks due to lack of internet and traveling every day on our trip.

Thank you to the Forum and it's members!! ::012:: ::012:: ::012::

True, I think we'll be slightly pissed if it's not the '14 clutch basket in the box. :D I'll pay the higher price if I have to, but I'm pretty stoked it's shipping at the lower price.

I may even get the dealer to install it while they repair my engine from the CCT grenade. Still waiting on Yamaha to approve the claim, but looks like 1 piston, 2 sets of rings, 2 valves, 2 guides, CCT and some misc. I'll be paying for the other piston and a cam chain, just to be on the safe side.

That's a great question... I wear ear plugs when riding. I was on an 8k mile trip all over the Yukon and Alaska and I started to notice that on cold start ups, I was hearing more clatter, and for a bit longer, before things quieted down. Now, at home the bike lives in the garage and I live in the desert, so on the trip with the bike outside every night, I just figured it was normal at first. It got loud enough that I figured I would have the CCT checked out when I got back, along with getting the third valve adjustment done, (slightly late at 82k). I wasn't really worried about it, but I should have been.

For reference, my FJR went thru three CCTs in 100k. It would get really, REALLY loud, then get quieter as the CCT finally moved out to adjust more. Different design, but from that background, it lulled me into being less concerned about the noise I was hearing from the S10. Add to that, at idle, the S10 is quiet, because of the oil pressure to the CCT.

When I got home from the trip, I made an appointment with the dealer, washed the crud off the bike and changed the oil. In hindsight, I should not have changed the oil. The extra delay in oil pressure may have been just enough to allow the cam chain to slip. It caught, then immediately died with a metallic snap sound. I should have had it towed right then, but I'm an idiot and cranked it more. Don't do that.

I had some emails with DC about that when it happened and told him not to try and start the bike before having it looked at by the dealer. I think that because he had a very similar start up where it just caught, then died, but he left it alone instead of trying to crank it more, he got very lucky on the lack of damage.

Installed my 2014 clutch basket this morning. I have kind of a unique review of this basket, because I was comparing it with a 2012 basket that had been modified by Sharealike. The fix that Sharealike has developed will definitely help with the 3200rpm shudder, and will remove about 80 to 90 percent of the vibration. John (Sharealike) is a great guy, easy to work with, and seems to really know his stuff. His fix definitely IMPROVES the old 2012-2013 basket, but I think you can only modify it so much, without completely redesigning and replacing the spring style damper assembly.

Obviously, this is what Yamaha has done, replacing the spring style damper with a rubber assembly. And I can definitely say after a ride today that it is a hands-down 100% improvement. I was content with my modded basket, but when I learned of the 2014 basket pricing error, had to give it a shot. I'm very glad I did. Not only is it a 100% cure for the 3200rpm shudder, it transforms the bike over the entire RPM range. I found myself running through my local mountain roads in a higher RPM range, because the vibration in the bars was so much less. I would normally not spend too much time above 5000rpm, because the buzz in the bars got annoying. But now, the bike is so much more refined, I don't even think about it.

It's frustrating if you missed out on the pricing error, I know, but if you can swing the cost, GET ONE ANYWAY! I think Stadium Yamaha lists the basket now at around $250. In my opinion, that is still WORTH IT. Knowing what I know now, I would pay $250 in a heartbeat for the 2014 basket, and the absolute transformation that it will provide to the bike.

I just got back from a long weekend in Vermont. What a joy it was to ride the roads there without the annoying clutch vibration.
Put close to 1000 miles on the new basket. It's the way the bike should've been from the start.

The service manual states it's a one time use nut, but some have reused it and been able punch down the notch more than once to prevent it from coming loose. For most, this will be the only time they loosen/tighten that nut, so there's no right or wrong choice in reusing or buying new.
