Received a mailer kickback for Jay Nakayama in japan, but the Yamaha USA went through.
I am serious about why it was played down by Yamaha and a completely new basket was slipped into the 2014 model under the radar.
Likely cost effective issues?
Manufactures are constantly upgrading components to improve the breed, Yamaha is no exception.
Can't say I'd call it an "issue" till I start to hear of clutch failure.

I say good on Yamaha for making the change! ::008::

You didn't think only GM dies this kind of stuff, did you? As long as there weren't any injuries or bad stuff happening to riders I think it's just the process of improving a product. It would be nice if they would do a recall and replace bad baskets. Doubt that's going to happen.

Speaking of my personal bike, I wouldn't label it as a bad basket or in any way defective. I am interested in the new one at the cheap price to see if it changes or improves anything. If it doesn't net any improvement it doesn't change my love of the bike. It won't ever be a recall unless it is ever deemed a safety issue. I don't recall any reports of anything safety related to this. Product improvements are always welcome and expected. Unless you're HD, lol.

Update: 400 miles so far and no problems, not that I expected any but it is a trial run! I've tested the bike under all kinds of scenarios and it's just smooth. Twisties, uphill grades, roll-on power in all gears, freeway, two-up and single - absolutely perfect. It is weird how my mind had been "conditioned" for the vibration at 3,200 and I did not realize how much I was riding around it, or trying to minimize running at that RPM under a load. But now all good.

Bottom line is that I'm very pleased with the performance of the 2014 basket for my bike which before was worse than other 2012 and 2013's that I have ridden. I've owned other twins and this is the smoothest by far. Great engine!

You guys are going to like it. Hope the pricing remains somewhat steady and deliveries will start coming in soon. ::008::

Is there a reason Also-ran is the only member who got a clutch basket? Am I missing something?

Rocky mtn said eta 9/1 no price change! Fingers still crossed
Funny they just emailed me saying they didn't know... ::)

We will see but I do have the gasket coming from the other guys that pulled the plug on the basket..
This is starting to give me a headache, but if Rocky mountain comes through it will be worth it.

We know this is like stealing you know I know but they don't know!!

He happened to order from somebody that had one on the shelf. The rest of us got an as yet non-stocking item.

The cheap price boat like I hope I didn't.. :D
I would suspect that there was very few of these on hand stateside, perhaps only the one AlsoRan got. But I'd be interested in other theories ::008::

I talked to my Yamaha guy today and he said Mondays backorder list said Aug. 18th. on the clutch basket. I didn't mention anything about the price. I'm going to go ahead and put in the Barnett pressure plate and if I get the basket in a month, I'll just bust it open again.

When I called in the order they said that there was one in-stock and they would place the order. I thought they were just talking about local stock. Figured the basket would not be a big mover but I'm also surprised it was the only one.

But then again maybe a non-member(s) got one too?

Dog won't hunt!!!!

Hello Frank

You placed an order with us for Yamaha part number 2BS-16150-00-00 (Yamaha primary driven gear for a 2014 Super Tenere). Sorry to say that there was a pricing error from our service provider and unfortunately we cannot honor it at that price which was $28.08. The original price for this part is $375.08 each. To continue with your order we would need to charge the difference. If you would like to cancel the order we can easily do that as well. Please let us know how you would like to proceed with your order.
Thank you!

Question ???? Has anyone put in the Barnett pressure plate and can share their knowledge on which set or combination of springs they used? I would like as light of clutch pull as I can get, but I don't want any slipping. ::017::

There's no slipping now, I just don't like the way the stock clutch releases with the diaphragm spring. I've rode a couple of Yamaha cruisers with the Barnett conversion in them and the clutch release is very smooth compared to stock. The Tenere kit comes with three different sets of springs, 192 lbs, 330 lbs & 420 lbs and I was hoping someone had done the homework on this setup so I don't have to change the springs out several times to get the best combination.

Stock is 270. You can mix and match the barnett coil springs to whatever your goal is.

Ah, but you need to stay symmetrical. With two sets of six springs, you can either go full soft, full hard, or three and three medium.
