Did you miss the part where I said NO pannier mounts? ;) (Could be my post was clear only to me, too.)

Because what I meant by that was I have no panniers, thus no mounts for panniers. Trying to understand if this box ONLY works WITH panniers, or if it'll work without panniers/mounts also...

...and if it does work without panniers/mounts, which option should I choose given the site forces a choice and no choice fits my scenario...?

Not trying to be a smart a$$ here, to be clear.

I'm guessing the box DOES work without panniers/mounts, but again, such an option isn't clear on the site when ordering...thus my questions.
Hi sportsguy - sorry about that! I did misread your initial post and thought you were asking if you would need to fab up brackets. I believe the kit that is designed for the OEM pannier set would work best (even without the pannier mounts), but will ask DS Bike to verify and advise.

Thanks!

As promised, here are pictures of the black toolbox (the sticker is from ebay). Once Touratech pull their finger out and send my black rack I will do a couple of pics fitted.

IMHO I wouldn't have it in the matt black as the finish isn't the best, but as DSBP did it for free I'm more than happy with it.

I think the biggest issue is that the Euro bikes are different than the USA bikes. the small differences are not being taken into account by the manufacturer most likley becasue they don't have a USA bike to try things out on.

My Tool Box still rubs the taillight even with a revised set of mounts....If I could weld aluminum I could have it fixed quickly....I may go find a someone who can and have the mount modified.

Overall I have been happy with rotaryracer's customer service.

Has anyone used this with the Hepco-Becker removable racks? I have that setup with Caribou cases and it would be nice to be able to leave the cases behind and still have the toolbox attached.

So...ah...how long does it take to ask that question? I mean, a simple email or phone call, a couple minutes of "How's the family?", then "Say, I have a question - does our storage box work with NO racks on a Tenere? Just with the stock passenger handles in place? Yeah, I know, the guy's nuts for not wanting panniers, but what are ya gonna do? So will it work?"

Enough already. It shouldn't be that hard to get an answer.

The toolbox is designed to mount with the oem panniers. I think the issue is the oem panniers utilize a spacer and longer bolts to position the upper mounting bracket as can be seen in my photo. The bracket provided with the toolbox is designed to mount outboard of the spacer.

Get the longer bolts and the spacers and you're good to go.

My 2 cents!

Thanks for posting Rocky - that does help clear things up - but really, if I'm going to send my money to someone, I EXPECT they are able to easily answer simple questions, or source the answers.

Now, the dilemma...

Send money to a business who has proven to offer less than expected customer service, but who has a unique product...

or...

Not. Plenty of other solutions exist to handle carrying gear, after all. Maybe put that same money towards a Giant Loop bag, covering half the cost almost...

Tough one - I HATE poor customer service - in fact, I used to run customer service training classes when I worked at Caesar's Palace. Basic plan: don't commit to something you will not or can not follow through on.

Balancing this is a unique design that, IF shipped, and IF fitted, would free up the worry of some hard bits bouncing around in soft storage.

Why, oh why, can't businesses just deliver solid customer service? Oh sure, "Buy American!"... but at what cost?

If you decide to go with the Giant Loop setup, look for a rubbermaid container with a snug fitting lid that will hold the hard bits in your soft storage, and you'll have a bunch of cash left over for gas. Rubbermaid container will also make a great bowl to eat out of when camping, or for oil changes while traveling. Soft tool roll from home depot or ADVrider inmate work too!

My ultra low tech and very inexpensive solution for tool storage on the bike: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-12-in-Document-Bag-82012N11/203224009

You're right. And it would be very easy for them to supply a toolbox with the necessary hardware to mount it on a stock bike.

The toolbox is a good quality product, however, the capacity is somewhat limited and ingress is restricted by the narrow opening once the access cover is removed. I still carry a tire pump in my top box and additional tools in my tank bag - in plastic containers like sail2xxs suggested. The toolbox is useful but not perfect.

Hey guys - sorry for the delay. I have not been able to get back on the forums this past week and apologize for the delay in getting answers to some of your questions. No excuses, though, and I'll try to do better. The best way to get in touch with me is email at sales AT advmotorrad DOT com or call directly (585) 310-ADVM. My BlackBerry never turns off, and I can respond to emails or take calls while in the shop packing orders.

sportsguy - As RockyDS rightfully stated, the box is designed to use the spacer included with the OEM pannier kit to move it out from the rear wheel. You could use the OEM hardware kit and source two spacers and longer bolts, but clearance would be too tight to mount it up without moving the box out in some way.

cbat - I don't think the raidbox has been mounted/tested yet with Hepco-Becker racks. DSBP does make pannier bracket solutions for OEM (which also works for Happy Trail), SW-Motech/Trax, and Touratech. If you want to send some pictures to sales AT advmotorrad DOT com, I can take a look and see if there will be clearance and/or one of the existing hardware kits would work, or forward to DSBP for confirmation.

Firefight911 - Phil, I got your PM and will send you the newest set of Touratech brackets as soon as they arrive from Spain. We have had other customers install the box using the earlier generation Touratech brackets, so I'm still not sure why yours aren't fitting up. I'm happy to help if you can just email me some pictures so I know what we're working with.

Any other questions, please let me know.

So the direct answer in my case is, it won't work without me purchasing more things to get it to fit. OK. Appreciate the info, Jason. I'm shelving this idea for future investigation. Given I need to source other mounting hardware from another source, it's just too much effort for too little return, IMO, right now. Still, I wish you guys the best of luck with this, and the other products. Feedback for the international team: its a mistake to only be able to sell this to ppl with brackets for hard bags. Why the heck would they intentionally limit their market, in an already tight niche...?

Oh well, not my business, but I do appreciate your time here.

Thanks Duane - I'll definitely pass the feedback along to the team in Spain. If they fab up a "no panniers" installation kit, I'll post it up here!

YES! It will work with Hepko-Becker removable racks

Jason and I exchanged about a dozen emails discussing measurements and after building a cardboard mock-up I was convinced to give it a try. The box bolted up using the OEM case mounting brackets with little trouble at all. It was about a 10 minute install. Photos show the results. Thanks to Jason for working with me.

cbat, thanks for confirming fitment behind the Hepco Becker racks - the raidbox looks great tucked behind those racks! ::008::
